2019 Kia Sorento SX-L - Redline: Review

  • With only 2 SUV's in the lineup, Kia certainly has a much smaller choice in a segment that is booming with American's consumers. Ever since it's inception in 2002, the Sorento has always been the top seller with over 100,000 units sold annually. For 2019, the 3rd generation gets a standard 3-row seat, updated front and rear fascias, and a new 8-speed transmission on V6 trims. It should satisfy buyers looking for versatility without the added bulk of some larger rivals.

    I dont care what people say. Kia makes quality vehicles now, They arent what they used to be..They look good, theyre reliable, and they almost always have a few extra features over the class competition.

      true... lot of people are just scared to accept reality lol.
      kia and hyundai will be on par with Germans and Japanese soon.
      Some cars are actually better now considering what you get for the money

      more competition is always good for consumers lol
      doesnt matter u buy them or not its ur choice based on your taste
      what matters is Hyundai and Kia are actually competing head to head now

      Exactly. Bought a fully loaded Kia Sedona and it has features even the fully loaded Honda and Toyota minivans don’t have for much less than them

      Kia is a solid competitor to american and japanese auto brands alike. People just have it etched in their minds that they still make the vehicles they did in the 2000's. Which is far from the truth. They rank top 5 in reliability 2 years in a row im pretty sure.

    I am a huge fan of Kia, my 3rd car was a Kia soul and I remember when they showed it to me I laughed but they said either it's that or a PT cruiser *I was 19 buying my own car with no co-signer* so I'm like yeah I'll take the Kia...now I'll vouch for the brand. Amazing car, rides smooth and handles so well in the snow!

    My family owns the 2018 version of the SX-L trim tested here. It's our second Sorento, replacing an identically trimmed 2012 model. Nearly had to pry my wife's cold, dead fingers from the earlier model but after a week, or so, she was even more in love with the 2018 model. (It's her daily driver and our family truckster.) One of the most impressive aspects of KIA's design/engineering is their more or less constant updating of a model even within generations. For 2019 the Sorento gets an eight speed transmission and some improved headlights. Nice enhancements but not critical as far as we're concerned. More important to us was the fact that my wife's list of minor complaints about the earlier model were ALL rectified plus numerous other new and improved features. (Yeah, she made a list.)
    Sofyan's comment about the Sorento being a "tweener" is right on. It was one of the most important aspects of the vehicle as far as we're concerned. We looked at several other options including the Mazda CX-9 and the Toyota Highlander. Surprisingly, the Sorento has more interior passenger room and more overall cargo space than the Mazda despite being 10" shorter! And while the Highlander claims to seat eight (based on the number of seatbelts in the third row), the Sorento actually has more room and amenities in the third row than the Toyota. As far as performance is concerned, Sofyan's estimate of 7.7 seconds 0-60 is a bit conservative based on our experience driving mostly at near sea level. More like 7.1 seconds. Not a speed demon by any means but perfectly adequate for both daily driving and freeway cruising.
    Otherwise, Sofyan's comments support our experience. The V6 is smooth, linear, quiet and refined. The interior in the SX-L trim is impressive. The driver controls are well placed and intuitive. The locking rear differential (not found on many of its rivals) is a godsend in snow. Otherwise, the AWD is unobtrusive and in our experience highly reliable.
    It is worth noting that if one prefers the turbo 4 option that KIA dropped in 2018 and have no use, whatsoever, for a third row of seats, the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is otherwise an almost identical vehicle. It's worth considering but for us the third row and V6 are preferable.

      @stephenhendricks103 3 роки тому

      @@christianjimenez6004 No issues, whatsoever, either on my 2018 or my earlier 2012 model. I sometimes say that if the KIA warranty had been for two miles and/or 15 minutes I would have spent the same amount out of pocket for repairs...zero dollars.
