I think what Randy meant by that was that he didn’t want to stop developing and his plan was to get involved in other genres and take the guitar to new heights. I think heavy rock was only a fraction of his interests, who knows what new genre he would have created.

The death of Randy haunted Ozzy for a very long time and may still to this day. I think even some of his drug and alcohol issues may have been due to Randy's death. I have played guitar for more than 35 years because of Randy Rhoads. I heard Crazy Train for the first time on one cold winter morning before school. A buddy of mine had Blizzard (it had just come out) on an 8 track. He was playing it on his boom box in the lunch room. That night I dug my dad's old acoustic out of the attic and I've never looked back. I have visited and left my picks at his grave site. I don't know how much more I can say about his influence on my life. He is, and will always be to me, the greatest. Taken from us all, far, far too soon.

I guess you could say he influenced me.

To give you an idea of how Ozzy felt, here’s an extract from an article I’ve read about the bands reactions in the days following the accident:
Sarzo found a church near the hotel they had been taken to and went inside to pray. The church was empty aside from one man at the front, crying uncontrollably near the altar. Sarzo was moved by the overwhelming grief this man was dealing with. Eventually the man cried out "Why? Why?" and at that point Sarzo realized it was Osbourne.

You can hear how confident of a player he was by the way he digs in to the strings, and his relentless pace. Rather than swinging the notes like a Blues based player, who plays slightly behind the beat, he hits them dead center or slightly in front of the note which adds a cool urgency to the sound. You don't hear guitarists play like this very much anymore because everyone is learning the same alternate picking techniques with the focus primarily on speed while ignoring the dynamic and melodic elements of the instrument.

When Bob Daisley was brought in to save the day, yet again, Oz got a hit. And mainly do to video play (which was something Blizzard never got to do - too early for MTV). If you're in the post-Randy camp then more power to ya. #1 songs don't sway me much - people are sheep - hence Kayne, JZ and Justin Bieber. You'd be hard pressed to find any post-Randy tune that can hold a candle to the Blizzard band material. Zakk would be the first to agree with me. Easily one of the best guitarists to have ever lived. I could easily relate to him in so many ways, not just musically, but as a human being overall. One thing Kelly Garni said about why Randy and him weren't very popular at school, "Every time we showed up for school it was usually problematic so we pretty much avoided it. We weren't nerds, we weren't jocks, we weren't dopers, we were just on our own". I find it to be a little bit funny, considering Randy was basically like a nerd when it came to music and the guitar, especially as he was born and raised in a musical family.

Don’t debate me on this... cause the way Randy was able to manipulate scales & chord progressions to his will to make some truly inspiring music that stands up to this day... I mean a lot of amazing guitar players can play crazy scale patterns and play great in the modes and scales but Randy went outside the box and created something truly special... out of all my years of playing guitar... learning an playing licks that Randy created are by far the hardest and most and complicated pieces of music I’ve ever tackled...
