Collete you can use the sand more than once, just sweep it off the floor and then pour it through a mesh strainer. I don't know if you can use the walnut more than once but I would give it a try. Great video. ps. Do it outside next time.
Pistol Pete walnut is to soft. After 1 time use its lost. Sand, grit or glass can be used more than 1 time. Only it looses it abressive force. Hence keep some used and use that for the glassfiber or use the walnut for that. Less abressive. I dont know your laws but sandblasting is not allowed anymore over here. Ps. There is a you tube lady ,sarah n tuned, who already tried out different methods of blasting.
Hands down, it's not an easy job That reminds me when I glas-/sandblasted my 79th VW Super Beetle in 1992.......during wintertime here in germany. The sand were everywhere....it was no fun but worked out right away. Remember, I was putting a plastik bag on my head because of having sand in my hair. You're awesome, Collete
There is a special chemical paint stripper formulated specifically for fiberglass! It’s used for boats, cars etc., and doesn’t harm or compromise the structure. I believe Eastwood makes it too, but I’m sure you can find information at f.e. Ecklers. Always fun watching! Best wishes
Love seeing the car getting rebuilt . Also nice to see everyone who supported the "fire sale" get to see where there donations went . As always we Love what you do Collete !
You know it sux, I'm super stocked you still jumped in. Could ya realize some of us are only able to work on our cars in the hott sun on the ground. Even still ur such a motivation..like 100% don't stop ur awesome
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 media blasting can be such a pain!! I can’t wait to see this thing back together. I feel ur pain starting all over I’ve had to do that at times and it’s such a hump to get over. Happy for you!! Keep grinding!!
What I like about watching you is that you don't let anything stop you! You keep pushing till the problem is solved! That sand blaster worked better than I thought!
With sand and glass you can absolutely do that as long as you strain it but unfortunately with the walnut it’s pretty much useless after one use cause it breaks up so much
@@paulwilliams7816 I’ve never had goo luck with it. Always seems to just be to fine and it takes double the time to do 1/4 of the work so I haven’t bothered since
You're doing great! Trial and error is par for the course, but you've already come a long way. She'll be back together, on the track kickin ass and takin names before you know it!
Only looked down around 10 comments and didn't see anyone mention. you can normally buy fittings to allow you to connect the airline easier. Great work keep it up
Got my piece of burnt Corvette and will be putting prominently in my shop to remind me what can go wrong. Glad you're back at it. Blasting is no fun but you got it done. Good luck!
In the end you done a pretty good job of it. Glad U got a bigger pot. As someone that sand blasts for a living it was ( how do I put it) frustrating to watch. Coz ya can't help n show U the way. I use a pot 5x that size n go through 6 to 10 tones of sand a shift at work.
happy to see this car coming back to life going forward I'd consider power washing the car getting that loos pait off then trying a paint striper that's safe of fiberglass
Bravo Collette, that looked like both hard work and fun, making a mess and getting shit taken care of. Another option, with care exercised with the f/glass, is dirty old paint stripper. Paint in on, hose and scrape it off. the area outside of the bay which will be covered by panels might be a good test spot. Carry on with your head up and you'll be back in the game.
I use that same harbor freight media blaster with walnut media to clean carbon off the intake valves on BMW N54 and M57 diesel engines. Also on direct injected Mini Cooper intake valves. Definitely worth the money but it's a PITA to use with all the ball valves so you don't end up clogging the machine
Looking good, might'a wanted to cover the whole windshield tho, just saying. Hopefully ya didn't etch it too bad. Good luck with the rest of the rebuild!
Collete I’m sooooo sorry for what happened with your drift car , But you’ll make it 1000x better when it returns!! Make sure you check everything over after each run . Very important especially after a full build . Love you channel never miss an episode
I know you're on the struggle bus with this but it's building character and y'all already got the puzzle figured out where you just need to put the pieces back together once the mess is cleaned up and new paint laid. The important thing is you're putting your big girl pants on and grinding towards the end goal. Hopefully your bad luck will be behind you after this and you'll have a certified ripper for years to come.
Only thing that sucks about sand / media blasting is the media/sand gets IN EVERY SINGLE NOOK AND CRANNY lol but you got this girl I believe in you love the motivation keep up the great work!!!!
with soda blaster if you can put 130psi thru the tank then turn regulator to 85. it will blast all paint clean off without harming the body panels I bought both like you did and the soda worked best without warping panels at that pressures
the gel paint stripper you get at hardware stores works really well. paint it on with a brush and it peels right off. power wash clean and do any touch ups after
This job looks like a nightmare to deal with. Glad it’s fixable but sorry for all the work it’s gonna take to get to that point. I feel for you chick !!!
With as much body work you guys do it wouldn’t be a bad idea to check on a dustless blaster maybe? My dad has a few for our automotive business and they get used quite a bit to sort out frames etc.
You can sweep up the media and reuse it. As long as it stays dry and you don't have too large of debris in it youll be good to go... Good luck with getting it back to 100%, you guys worked to hard for it to end that way. Keep pushing and youll be ripping it again soon✌🤙 You should have someone airbrush a true flame style like (rip)Mike Lavelle used to paint for the engine bay. That along with the neon fade would be killer. Adam kept the torched fenders, you should pay homage to the fire gods your own way 🔥 🙌
I just got done taking my rear bumper off Chevy Malibu 08 LS today been working on it for about 5 or 6 weeks now taking parts off before paint it. Took the rear bumper, trunk, front and back lights, outside sideview mirrors, doors, inside door panels and the front grille off gonna paint it midnight purple wanna paint it midnight purple but after the garage sale is done it's outside now with a cover over the top of it I bought the cover from Autozone.
Rookie tip. Sandblast outdoors. No sense punishing yourself and making a giant mess indoor. Silica sand and outside with a full face mask and good amount of pressure
I saw Yourself and Mrs Hartford calab You guys are awsome !! 2 knowledge hard working dope gals !!! Been watching Emilia forever now subscribed to You Mrs Davis your cool !!!!
im in the uk but do media blasting a lot to save money use soft dry play sand as the first media its aggressive but will be cheaper and better than the walnut shell and use the shell for the intricate places use the largest tank you can and vary the pressure for glass fibre to stop blowing through
I’m surprised you guys don’t have one of those sand/soda blasters that they sell on a trailer for the compound. I don’t thing they are that expensive, but I could be wrong.
The professional soda blasting stuff is a lot better. It’s a big thing near the shore areas bc people get it done to remove years of bottom paint off the bottoms of the boats. But your doing a great job for what you have. Usually that much stuff is done outside. A lot less cleanup and you can breathe a lot better.
The walnut shells does great on aluminum parts too. Doesn’t put the metal. Also you can reuse the material to a certain level. Might not be as good as first time it went through but still usable. Just like a cabinet. The material stays in there and gets recirculated until it seems worn down
Electrical tape is perfect for masking while sandblasting... seems to absorb the beads in a way that doesn't hurt it. Also, try to always wear a respirator when doing that indoors or out.... pretty f'd up what you can start breathing in...
You may have been getting water in your blast pot. Clogging happens when trash and moisture build up. As your ceramic breaks down it can also cause that blockage.
Hey Collete you really need a Dry Ice blaster like TommyFYeah's got in his shop ! See if Adam can find somebody that might own one thats closer to you guys in Florida or send the car to Connecticut and go blast the Vette! That would be the way to go imo!
Autozone for the quick connection. It’s where I got the one I used on the sand blaster. Also note that it requires a lot of air and if clogged just shake it a second and you good.

Great video! Really informative and probably saved a lot of people some heartache with the trial and error! Nice work! 💪🏼
I thought the same as you, I'd have said the walnut shell would have been less abrasive as well without any extra info
the gel paint stripper you get at hardware stores works really well. paint it on with a brush and it peels right off. power wash clean and do any touch ups after
Using paint strippers could result in damaging the fiberglass!!
Just an FYI I'm almost positive you can just sweep up the media you used and re-use it over and over. Keep up the great work!!
It sucks that you have to do this again, but you're doing a great job rebuilding the Corvette. I think it'll turn out better than ever when its done
Most people around d where I'm at use walnut to sandblast. Way quicker than the other stuff for heavier duty jobs. Plus I do believe it's reusable

Just a suggestion, reuse the media you blast, get a filter screen to filter out any big chunks you clean up!
You guys need a dry ice blaster at the compound.....
Hi....Great work and satisfaction , nice t-shirt in all languages, Divertirsi Siiiii 😃 with the finished car 👍
I enjoyed so much watching you do this car. ìm happy your back at it.
Throwing down a layer of floor sweeping compound before using that soda blaster will help with clean up after. That stuff gets everywhere!
I never heard of that before. Great tip!!
Should try dry ice blasting. Sarah N Tuned did an awesome video on her Quattro. I think there is less mess with this media

Not gonna lie thats some good paint it was caught on fire and sprayed with the fire extinguisherand it still looks bright
Nice paint stripper knowledge
If the walnut media you used is not contaminated with dirt, you can reuse the excess. Filter it and put it back in the tank.
Collete Dry ice may help in your situation
You can clean up & reuse the walnut media a 2nd or 3rd time before it's to knackered to use
You can reuse the walnut media, just screen it to make sure it’s mostly clean, and you can use it again!
Walnut media. So much better than donut media! 😅👌

I love your N! I have a white one, fun to pick on some v8s with it lol fun little rocket!
You can put the walnut media you sweep up through a screen and reuse it.
Plastic sheeting around the little carport you just built would have made a nice little sandblasting booth
YAY SO EXCITED!! 💗
There is a reason why that should be done outside lol. Still, a great video... and, now you know.
Using the walnut you can do it outside and its environmentally safe. Easier clean up. Just get the leaf blower and blow that stuff in the grass.
Glass beads work really nice on aluminum parts.
I always wondered what they did with the empty walnut shells.
