That's heartbreaking after the level of effort you've put in. I know you'll keep fighting though, good work, take this as a learning experience, bring her back better than before. I'll be ready for the breakdown video, glad that you're okay!
Glad you're okay, that looked hella scary from the helmet cam view. Hopefully there's nothing structurally compromised and it's just cosmetic/engine gear replacements. Huge bill, but you have the resources and a great team to get this fixed. Stay strong Collete :) And yeah, always wear a fire suit. It sucked that the track/event organizers had a horrible fire response too, everyone grabbing small cans and no fire control near the area either.
Wow that was scary. As you said plenty of lessons to be learnt and improvements made. One thing I didn’t see mentioned is how did that much fire get into the cabin. Might need to look at your firewall and shifter boot etc and make sure it is all sealed up as this is the result when you dont
This video is what pushed me to get a fire extinguisher for my car that I track on the weekends. Be it casually or full on race car, we need to start taking safety more seriously. It’s just unfortunate that it happened to you to have had pushed me to do it. Hope you’re feeling already and hope to see the Vett back out there slaying soon!
Now that’s a way to shake a grown man to his core. I’m glad to see you are OK. It is terrifying to see that many flames in the car. I’m going to go check my fuel lines right now…
DAMN sorry for your loss! driving was epic! Its crazy they let you drift without proper race overalls etc Here in NZ fireproof overalls are mandatory and people trackside have massive fire extinguishers Very lucky you didnt get Burnt legs. Hope you rebuild and come back positive. Definitely buy some protective clothing though!
exactly my thoughts, especially the lack of decent sized extinguishers that were involved. didn't see any useful ones come out till the fire team turned up
Indeed, such a PRO-level car with micro fire extinguisher and Collete with casual clothes we have to admit that were a little bit over-optimistic. Glad she didn't suffered any injuries.
I’m glad you’re okay. Also, such a huge event with sponsors and you would think that they would have a fire crew, but no. I know everyone tried their best putting out the fire, but I hope other event organizers put a focus on fire proof equipment. What a sh!tty situation.
@@joeysthilaire8876 what does that have to do with anything? Lol. This event was at Virginia International Raceway where they have IMSA (former American le mans series) amongst other large racing series. It is up to drivers and their teams to have proper fire suppression, this all happened within a few seconds, no way a fire truck could get there in 30 seconds.
@@midship_nc I know where it was held and I understand the situation and the speed it unfolded in but after a couple of minutes there was still no trained personal in protective clothing that’s all that I was saying wouldn’t have happened in the uk. The rail coming loose and fire would be the same either way or country, I understand it’s her choice to wear the clothing and installing fire suppression I was on about the event in general🤷♂️
@@joeysthilaire8876 I looked up the official tech inspection sheet for drifting in that event. For safety equipment they only specify to have a roll cage, seat belts or harness, snell SA2010 spec helmet, and a covered battery inside cockpit, which in my opinion is pretty slim for safety. No fire suit mandate, or even fire extinguishers. While crappy, and dangerous situation - I would have more than a 30 dollar fire extinguisher in my ~$100k drift car and would be wearing a full suit no matter how hot it was. I live about 2 hours from this track and it wasn't that hot last weekend, only like 85F at worst.
I want to give a huge shout out as I haven't seen it done yet to all these dudes who raced to her car to help put it out. they leapt into action without hesitation. this is why I love drifting. it's better then family
Loved seeing you drift and my wife was so stoked to meet you finally, we're both glad you're ok! Hate to see that happen to the car but that car is nothing without it's driver, don't forget that 🙂
Most people are traumatized when this happens once in their life. I feel so bad that this has happened to Collete twice now, and after she put so much time and passion into the Vette. But let's just remember what that Mustang turned into... Can't wait to see this phoenix reborn!
Sealing that firewall should be a TOP priority on the rebuild as well as checking any oil or fuel connections! It takes just a couple drops on a hot header for this to happen Luckily it was near others and you had an extinguisher and it didnt torch it fully...it sucks but youre good and it is too mostly! Rebuild and come back even better!
This brings me back to one of the saddest days in my life that didn't involve a person. My jeep caught fire the day after I started putting on upgrades. I feel your pain. Glad to see you are ok.
This was a rough one, I’ve been in the seat when this occurs and I’ll say the car rebuild was easiest part. It took 3-4 months before I was mentally ready to get back on track. Try to focus on you during this down time, shit is scary to experience. Glad you are ok, and I look forward to seeing you back out there when your ready.
You acted so quickly and did everything the best you could do, also it’s so good seeing how only the others around you were so quick to also react and help!
So sad but you’ll come back stronger than before! I almost had a heart attack seeing you get out and the flames were at your legs in stretchy material clothing and sneakers… I think this highlights the importance of a fire retardant racing suit and boots. Stay safe!
Glad your ok as someone already said cars can be replaced, people cant, concerntrate on future builds and stuff but we all understand if u wanna take time away to recuperate and that, we all here for you colette
This was such a heartbreaking video to watch, especially for those of us who've followed the build from the beginning. Stay strong and we'll all be here for the rebuild!!
As i have heard tom Bailey say, "fire suppression systems are not meant to save the car, they are meant to save the driver". Im glad you're ok and i cant wait to see this car up and running again
This is exactly why I’ve always been trippin on you all at drift events not wearing firesuits, nomex, anything really. Race car is a race car at the end of the day no matter what you should always be more prepared than not with safety especially fire. Glad you’re good cars can be fixed
As Collette says at the end. She knows she made a mistake and got lucky it was cold that day. If it was the day before her arm wouldn't have been covered at all. As for being hot, drink more water and sit in the shade like the rest of the world. Not being a negative Nancy either, this needs to be highlighted.
Mann that's terrible .. I can't imagine how stressful this most have been, you'll get back on track soon don't worry. We're all just glad that you're okai for real , and the fact that one of your first reflex was to go straight for the extinguisher is amazing you're brave ahaha! Reaction was on point, Keep it up Collete.
Glad you're OK! It's a wake up call for all that fire suits are necessary, only takes a moment of panic to fail a harness and you're screwed. Those extra seconds save lives. Not only that, I fully appreciate panic overcome her but everyone, by a second fire extinguisher, learn to use it. Sometimes that damn pin just don't wanna come out
Yeah, let's keep hoping they get out in time that fix it. We have been doing track fire safety for 60 years, and THESE people haven't figured it out. What a joke. This event should be shut down until they figure out how to properly run a safe event. This was nothing less than luck. If her latch got stuck, we would be planning funerals. Disgusting.
That's a scary moment there Collete! Glad to see you got out of it ok ;-) I do have to say, I think firesuits should be mandatory at these events. You see so many people not wearing them. I know you usually do, but yeah...wrong call, that luckily didn't make this worse. I'd like to see more ("capable") marshalls, with appropriate firefighting equipment, track side as well. But again...happy to see you're alright ;-)
@@Tom-xn7zc first thing I picked too. Super sad that the car was lost and the mental and emotional side of the build and losing it, but so much could be picked from the video. Unsealed fire wall, the clothing she was wearing - in AUS the CAMs ruling is full length cotton - i am slightly guessing she would of definitely had hot ankles, the mount for the fire extinguisher itself, the fire marshalling, and the guy who ran across from her drivers side not signalling there's a fireball straight underneath the car while she's trying to get out. Can see why they have to go through much training to become track officials/ERT members. Hopefully the comp can pick up from this and move forward for the future of safety to the drivers.
The way I look at it, without these 'challenges' all would be too easy for you, seeing the improvement in your driving from the Barbie-Z up to now. Keep killing it, Collete!
I’m happy that you’re okay. Cars come and go. The next time you build one- you’ll know what not to do. That much flames seems like a broken fuel/oil line on hot exhaust/brakes? Top of the engine. Injector came loose?
Glad your ok, I've never had a fire with any of my cars, but just seeing yours like that and imagining it being mine really kicked me. I've got to ask though. Why was the fire able to get past the firewall in the first place? Did you have big openings left in it or something? That's why it's named firewall, that's its job.
Was my first question too 😬 firewalls should be completely sealed off tbh 🤔 Glad everyone's ok but seriously gotta be smarter ,sorry to be harsh but it's the truth. 👍 You go to to these things for fun not for death or serious injuries.
This proves that the firewall and other peices is in no way been sealed up correctly, having the fire make it's way into the cabin.... defeats the whole purpose of a firewall if it just lets it through....
You are a fricken Badass! It was so professional how you responded to the emergency. Cool calm and collected. It was as if you trained for it and then nailed it under pressure when it mattered.
I’m so glad you’re ok. Knowing the end result was fire, I was so scared watching you drift without pants or a jacket on day 1. Things like this happen and cars can be replaced, but you can’t. I’m glad you’re ok
Jesus, that was intense. Looks like the track crew could use some training in handling a fire. You aren't supposed to aim the extinguisher at the flames, but the base of the fire. And that one guy walked straight into a pool of flaming fuel 😱
Glad you're safe and surrounded by an amazing crew to help you. Make sure you get properly checked out - breathing in that smoke can cause major long-term issues even if you feel fine right now. Fire suppression on all your builds ASAP and full race suit for every run...& I'm sure Adam has already told you but It's just gonna create more content and more opportunities for you. seeing it on lifeofpalos last night my heart broke seeing the C6 in flames, genuinely adored that car and watching the journey of it going from the white vette with the black back to it having the fully built motor and fade paint, so devastated for you
Glad you’re ok
Funny seeing you here bro
My daughter and I have been following your build and how much love you poured into this car, but chin up, no doubt you’ll fix the old girl up to be bigger and better. Metal can be mended, you are OK, and that’s what matters.
You have been and continue to be an inspiration for my 10yr old petrol head who started racing karts watching your channel. Much love from Australia
The driving you were doing prior to the fire was an absolute pleasure to watch! Our condolences for your car but we are so glad you're okay!
Glad you’re alright Collette. The Corvette can always be fixed and you’ll push thru it. Keep up the great work you’ve always been doing
Wow that was scary. As you said plenty of lessons to be learnt and improvements made. One thing I didn’t see mentioned is how did that much fire get into the cabin. Might need to look at your firewall and shifter boot etc and make sure it is all sealed up as this is the result when you dont
yes, that fire came through the fire wall way too quick....
also the lack of safety gear
This video is what pushed me to get a fire extinguisher for my car that I track on the weekends.
Be it casually or full on race car, we need to start taking safety more seriously. It’s just unfortunate that it happened to you to have had pushed me to do it.
Hope you’re feeling already and hope to see the Vett back out there slaying soon!
How many fire extinguishers were used here in this fire? 7-8?
I'm just glad you're okay Collete
Now that’s a way to shake a grown man to his core. I’m glad to see you are OK. It is terrifying to see that many flames in the car. I’m going to go check my fuel lines right now…
Her voice sounds like she’s about to cry :( that makes me so sad, I’m glad you are safe!
Definitely buy some protective clothing though!
exactly my thoughts, especially the lack of decent sized extinguishers that were involved. didn't see any useful ones come out till the fire team turned up
Oath bro 🤙🏽 nz rep
Indeed, such a PRO-level car with micro fire extinguisher and Collete with casual clothes we have to admit that were a little bit over-optimistic. Glad she didn't suffered any injuries.
I’m glad you’re okay. Also, such a huge event with sponsors and you would think that they would have a fire crew, but no. I know everyone tried their best putting out the fire, but I hope other event organizers put a focus on fire proof equipment. What a sh!tty situation.
VIR has a fire team, this happened pretty fast and all they had on hand were crappy handheld extinguishers.
Exactly what I though, if this was in the uk there would have been trained personal there and adequate equipment
It takes just a couple drops on a hot header for this to happen
Luckily it was near others and you had an extinguisher and it didnt torch it fully...it sucks but youre good and it is too mostly!
Collete cheering and clapping, laughing and stuff when she linked the course was soo adorable sigh, I'm happy you're okay RIP to the car sadly sigh.
So sad but you’ll come back stronger than before! I almost had a heart attack seeing you get out and the flames were at your legs in stretchy material clothing and sneakers… I think this highlights the importance of a fire retardant racing suit and boots. Stay safe!
Ya... yoga pants and racing cars are probably not a great combo.
Glad your ok as someone already said cars can be replaced, people cant, concerntrate on future builds and stuff but we all understand if u wanna take time away to recuperate and that, we all here for you colette
Holy crap lady I'm so glad you got out safe. Sad to see the car burn 100% but so happy you are good.
my heart was racing watching that! That feeling is so scary and it’s like slow motion. So glad you are okay 💜
You got this! Glad you didn't get hurt.. CA support! Wear you safety gear!
I feel bad for what happened but I'm glad that nobody got hurt.
Hang in there Collete.
I can't imagine the devastation or the anger you feel as a result of this fire. The important thing is you're alive and unscathed! V2 will be better!
This is exactly why I’ve always been trippin on you all at drift events not wearing firesuits, nomex, anything really. Race car is a race car at the end of the day no matter what you should always be more prepared than not with safety especially fire. Glad you’re good cars can be fixed
I've never understood that either . In New Zealand it's almost mandatory any time you're in a race car.
The track crew was extra slack though
Yep same in Australia. You can't mess around with fire. At least wear cotton or wool based long sleeve clothing...
@@smee1198 yea mechanics overalls etc . That's what is often used at lower level events here to help with costs .
Agreed.. If you can spend thousands on a race car you can spend $500 or a thousand on a fire suit
As Collette says at the end. She knows she made a mistake and got lucky it was cold that day. If it was the day before her arm wouldn't have been covered at all. As for being hot, drink more water and sit in the shade like the rest of the world. Not being a negative Nancy either, this needs to be highlighted.
So so sorry, I was cutting onions when I saw it, I never cry. I watched how hard and excited you were building her; you will rebuild
Glad you’re doing well! Very scary moment
Sometimes that damn pin just don't wanna come out
Glad your ok !! Saw you, Adam and your cars at summit point during drift week, looked amazing and I'm sure your going to come back stronger !
Don't give up Collet! I believe in you 🤘
Sorry for your loss, but glad your ok. Your a trooper and will be back in it soon. You inspire always remember that !
You’re a badass driver glad you’re ok and got out in time
Yeah, let's keep hoping they get out in time that fix it.
Glad to see you got out of it ok ;-)
I do have to say, I think firesuits should be mandatory at these events. You see so many people not wearing them. I know you usually do, but yeah...wrong call, that luckily didn't make this worse.
I'd like to see more ("capable") marshalls, with appropriate firefighting equipment, track side as well.
But again...happy to see you're alright ;-)
Totally agree, but what about sealed firewalls?
@@Tom-xn7zc True... sealed firewalls should mandatory. At least for the official comps.
So glad you're OK. Cars can be replaced you can't. Stay strong you'll come back even better
Was my first question too 😬 firewalls should be completely sealed off tbh 🤔
Glad everyone's ok but seriously gotta be smarter ,sorry to be harsh but it's the truth. 👍
You go to to these things for fun not for death or serious injuries.
If you’re reading this and want to show Collete some love go buy some merch!! Let’s make the next build a step further up
we are all so glad to see that you are okay. just got to come back stronger then ever keep your head up and you are doing so well with drifting.
Jesus, that was intense. Looks like the track crew could use some training in handling a fire. You aren't supposed to aim the extinguisher at the flames, but the base of the fire. And that one guy walked straight into a pool of flaming fuel 😱
those were just bystanders/friends rushing in to help. the actual track crew were the ones with the big extinguisher at the end is my guess
The track crew was nowhere to be seen . Pretty slack tbh
Or a track fire safety full stop, looked like all drivers helping. No full size extinguishers etc.
@@lukelahnstein @22:54 there are 2 dudes with headset on and a full size extin
@@jowjowbro after it was out? They should be there in 30 seconds
Stay positive and know we'll keep supporting you along the way.
Amazing to see the support of the community. Even the guy in shorts and nikes jumped into help. Nobody even second guessed themselves just jumped in to help. Amazing good job Guys!!
ive just seen the video and im not ashamed to say i cried! If anyone can come back from this and rebuild its you. keep your chin up.
Wow Collette you are really brave and had an incredible response time. It's great that you're surrounded by such incredible people. You will surpass this and come back even greater. Don't worry about the car you are what matter not the car. Glad thay you are still with us and don't doubt you will continue to do great things.
So glad you're okay!! It's so heart waeming to see that so many people came to help you!! But what was really heart warming was when everyone was looking at the car to see what was the matter Adam was reassuring that it wouldn't happen agian. And absolutely loved it when you said "It is what it is," That's always something you can say to brighten the moment!! Once again so happy that you're alright!!
I just ran across your channel....you are amazing!!!
Watching you tear down n rebuild/paint the vett, I was extremely impressed.
I restored a 69 427/390 vett in the 90s. I know how difficult it is and how dedicated you have to be to see it through.
Again, you're amazing!!!
Keep up the great content...aloha😊
im crying with sadness for all your heart and soul youve put intoo this build! you handled it incredibley well! This is when true greatness in peoples hearts will come out and shine too help you emotionaly and mechanicaly too come back and shine like the angel you are!!! we all Love and believe in you xxxxxx
My heart broke when i saw the car burst into flames. You worked so hard on that vette and to see something tragic happen sucks. Im glad you made it out of there unscathed. You can't be replaced.. Cars can. So glad you didnt get burned.. That looked super scary from you POV. Stay strong and safe. That vette will be back on no time.
❤️”without love in the dream, it will never come true.” You are so full of love Colette, We all know you will dream up some thing even bigger and brighter and will be leaving epic fluorescent door taps in now time! We are all so relieved that you weren’t hurt. Be well and thank you for sharing this with us 🙏
That was really hard to watch and I only WATCHED you build it. So heart broken for you but we all know you will rebuild it even better.
You’re a fighter. You will be back in the corvette faster than you think. Glad you are okay and wish you all the best going forward.
So sad to see this after admiring the car so close at Summit Point, then again this past weekend. You'll come back better than ever! Your excitement on patriot made me so excited and want to do better myself. Keep pressing on!
jesus christ , thats crazy! watching that fire made me cry ngl, but i have faith youll bounce back even harder 💪 sometimes the teacher we need can only be first hand experience, we can all learn a lot of safety lessons from this. shout out to the dude who pulled you away too, you looked in shock and his situational awareness was on point.
Girl, I truly feel for you. there are those that "build" cars and those that build cars. stripping it to a shell and starting from the ground up. the money, time, and connections that are made with the car as you put in the time. If something like this happened to my car I'm not sure what I would do. luckily you have some amazing support and I'm sure it'll come back better. Adam will make sure of that.
So glad your ok and so sorry about the Vet all the time and hard work.
God Bless.
Glad you're ok Collete ! You'll come back stronger. surely .. don't you worry !
I'm so glad you are ok....you know what you need to do and you don't need a lecture. I'm sorry about your car. I know you put alot into it. Much love.
I'm glad you are ok.. I know you can overcome this and be stronger because of it. You got this.. Chin up and keep moving forward 🙏
Holy Crap. This was not clickbait at all. That was a serious freaking fire. I honestly got chills seeing it bust through the firewall and then when you opened the door MORE FIRE.
cars can always be rebuilt, all that matters is that you're safe! Even tho it sucks to see so many hours of work and so much effort light up in flames. Stay strong!
Glad you're ok, that's the most important part. Have no doubt the Vette will be back better then ever, and you'll be out there showing them boys how it's done. 🏎💨
Glad you made it out safely. All you can do is learn from it and make sure to do your best that is doesn’t happen again.
