Good stuff. Just got my MD mk2 UW, still figuring it out. Late but great, and yes I want a RYTM mk2 also.

Thanks! I just rewatched this back, as I was kind of surprised this has reached (almost) 5000 plays - this demo was pretty barebones and basic, but the MD is sorta like that, in a sense. The RYTM + Octa combo is amazing but it takes so much learning, that said.

Thanks mate :). I've now sold the Machinedrum as of a couple of months ago - in order to fund the purchase of an Octatrack Mk1. My setup is now an Elektron RYTM Mk1 paired with the Octatrack Mk1, and it's *so* much more powerful than the Machinedrum was on just its own. Well, even the RYTM is a lot more powerful than the MD (but, they're very different creatures when it boils down to it).
I've got to try and cobble together a little bit of a demo using them both, I think, and upload it onto my channel: as it's been too long since the last one.

RYTM, very differend sound aesthetics. FM stuff and the digitalness of the MD is much more appealing in many ways, and you do master the machine. For the second hand prices they go for these days, why not keeping it and saving for the RYTM? Cheers!

I sold the MD years ago now, so there's no real way to 'keep both' and separately buy a RYTM. I would like to have the MD in addition to the RYTM and OT if I could, but that said, it's outside of my price range, the secondhand market here is a bit worse than it is in Europe, and I wanted to centralize my setup to be primarily the Octatrack + RYTM + Modular synth - and not much else. And it was probably a good idea, in retrospect, because now that I have the RYTM + OT, I still haven't really fully utilized both machines together. I think If I had an MD in that group on top of that, not only would I be completely out of room on my desk for them all, but it would be too much to manage. I wanted a small range of really powerful machines that could fully interact with each other, rather than a large collection of small machines (which is what my setup originally was).

Should i swap my Yamaha RS 7000 for one of these?

I really couldn't say, specifically, as I've never used an RS7000 nor do I know anyone who owns one. From a brief look, they seem to be much different machines - depending on what you want to use it for. Best case scenario for you would be to get a Machinedrum to combine with your RS7000, but that may be a bit expensive. The MD's are much harder to find now as they're the oldest Elektron unit (one of the first machines they put out, I think) , but they are great for a powerful drum machine unit and they have the bonus of being able to do good MIDI sequencing/work as a sequencer, too (which the RTYM cannot do, for sequencing and drums with elektron, you'd need a RYTM and an Octatrack (like I have now), or otherwise a digitrack and whatever the other new unit is).
End of the day, it's up to you, I'd recommend the MD as a powerful unit, but try find a UW version of it (i.e the one that can load samples onto it) as that gives you the power the onboard MD 'machines', as well as your own custom sounds/user loaded sounds, without having to purchase a sampler on top of everything else.

…sold mine decades ago…most horrible and frustrating thing…and that syntethic sound is awfully distressing…just horrible…
