The Japanese considered themselves the master race of Asia. There is a famous propaganda article to teach German school children about the Japanese called The Secret of Japan's Strength, which was a proto-weeb cultural salivation over samurai culture and the Bushido code.

Not sure if this will come up in the bonus facts, but Germany invaded China, as well. They annexed Hong Kong with the British prior to WWII and ended up using it as a munitions manufacturing hub during the war. As would be expected, European colonists and "diplomats" would want some beer to drink and they opened a brewery, nearby, shortly after arriving. After WWII, when Germany was forced to demilitarize, China took back the region that the brewery was in and renamed it Tsingtao. To this day, they are brewing a centuries-old recipe for Munich lager, just under a different name and under Chinese governmental control.

What blows my mind is throughout the Cold War when asked so many people point at the Cuban missile crisis as the closest we ever came to Armageddon, but if you think about it the Korean War ending when and how it did (yes I’m aware it’s still technically going on, it’s been on an armistice for the better part of a century, it ended.) was the greatest gift our modern society has ever gotten. China pushed back south, we regrouped and pushed back up to the 38th parallel and settled in for a siege. Truman lost the election and Eisenhower came into office fully prepared to nuke china if that’s what it took to crush resistance at the 38th and win the war or end it “peacefully”.
If Eisenhower decided nukes would be more successful than negotiations to end the war then we could’ve easily normalized the use of nukes and at this point in history fission nukes had improved greatly and we’re far more deadly and radioactive than what ended the war in Japan. And we had just finished testing the first fusion bombs. There were only 5 years remaining before icbms would be invented.
A couple nukes land in china, our communist enemies would be primed and ready to wipe us out far earlier and more eagerly than what actually happened.

I think that being a relatively young country, who went to great lengths to erase the indigenous cultures and strongly claiming independence from where many of us originated from, leaves us lacking a strong historical identity. That leaves many clinging to nationalism as a huge part of their identity. That’s another reason to appreciate, learn and support the many many cultures that live together here

That is weird. I never heard about Germany suppressing information concerning Japanese activities in the past. Then again, Germany still doesn’t do a great job there. I was born and raised in the 80s/90s in Germany and I hadn’t even heard of the activities of Japan in the lead-up to and during WW2.
While it may still have been based in some weird historical habit of ignoring Japan’s activities, but it may have been more reasonably due to the preoccupation with German atrocities, the history leading to them, and the aftermath.

There is much to admire of Japanese society, even from the period being discussed. Unfortunately the interpretation of the Bushido code held by the Japanese military (resulting in various abuses amongst defeated enemies and civilians who were unfortunate enough to live in conquered territories) of the time ultimately destroys any positive image of Japanese society back then. As ever, the main fault lays with those in charge of general policies.

When you say "holocaust" do mean genocide? Check your dictionary. Japan may be guilty of genocide, but it was Japan that was burned to the ground and that is a holocaust. Is there any evidence that Japan’s mass rapes and murders were intended to destroy China as a nation, or were they non-genocidal crimes like the Rape of Eastern Germany on a much larger scale? Japan’s goal was to subjugate China rather than destroy it.

when you talk about campaigns of rape and murder......within WW2 the Germans and Japanese conducted the first examples of such, the horrors that were visited upon them in return are simple revenge for the crimes that THEY FIRST COMMITTED.
If you're looking for sympathy for nazi Germany and the Japan ruled by the militarists, then you'll find it in a dictionary between "shit" & "syphilis".

Are you out of your fucking mind?
You must be from one of the tribes that "won" WWII and forced the German children "learn" this guilt.
