  • Hey its Zach from 718motorpool and today were going to be checking out this NYPD PA300 siren. These sirens were rolled out as special order in 1990 for the New York City Police Department after the department switched from the SP mark 7 siren. They were used in the 90s and 2000s on a variety of nonstandard vehicles.

I have 2 of these in my collection. A normal PA300 NYPD and a newer PA300 Series NYPD.

I have a newer NYPD PA300 series too. It’s not functioning as it should but I got that when these were unobtainable

I hope you do a tour of your entire collection & also a separate FS Vista video. They're very versatile & modular. I have halogen and strobe models and even some with 5mm LEDs on the lower level and couple with the bright 9 diode LED flashers. I've also got some with the front-facing oscillator in the middle dome. The only feature I don't have on any of them are the small cruise lights that could be mounted in the corners. I have domes in clear, red, blue, & amber, but not green or purple & I'm don't know if they made those.
The Vista is really special to me because it was my first lightbar & it's the reason I became a firefighter. I bought an old cop car that had a Vista on it & I assumed everything was disconnected & I'd be taking it off soon. When I picked up the vehicle, EVERYTHING still worked!!! The siren, lightbar with red outer domes, Whelen SlimLighter dash light, wig-wags, & 6 strobe bulbs in the head/tail/reverse lights were all still hooked up & this fact was not in the auction description. Only about 1 percent of vehicles listed with that company were still intact & always had a disclaimer that everything would have to be disconnected before you picked it up if you were not representing an emergency agency. Boy did I luck out! The lightbar has two center sections & is almost fully populated. It's only missing 4 take-downs & has room for one more light on the ends of the bottom rows where I'd like to put in turn signals. I took out the Lexan inside & surrounding the prisoner partition, but I left the rest of it in-place to act as a roll bar because the car didn't have side airbags or stability control. Fortunately, I was able to move the partition back an inch to get the seat to recline one more notch for a comfortable driving position.
Driving it home on the highway was so much fun. It was a newer generation than my last car & had a much smoother ride. The best part was that everyone got out of my way in the left lane. It was a blast driving it around town for a few weeks, but a nice cop informed me that I couldn't drive it with the red domes on it. I put some orange plastic wrapping over them temporarily until I found clear domes.
I made the lower level flashers amber & the traffic advisor partially red & just used them on my construction job or during heavy snow. I was really itching to drive with the lights & siren on, but I was a good boy & didn't. Before getting this car, somebody at work told me I should volunteer at the fire department with him & become Fire Police because I always set up cones in the street, chocked the truck tires, & was safety conscious. That was in the back of my mind for a couple years & was reignited when I got the cop car. Unfortunately, I found out I couldn't use the siren, red lights, wig-wags, or headlight strobes responding to calls, so I put blue lenses on the halogen rotators & the flashers. I was really lucky that my SlimLighter (the only one of the four variants made) allowed the LED board to be removed & replaced with a different color. I swapped the red LEDs for blue & that greatly improved my response with people pulling over much quicker than when the only lights facing the front were in the lightbar.
I quickly fell in love with doing the more interesting firefighter duties on-scene instead of just traffic. I did Firefighter 1, but stayed Exterior, then became a driver. 11 years later, I still frequently set up cones & can direct traffic on calls if I'm not pumping.

So i probably won’t do a full tour of my collection for a little while, I’m in the process of redoing my garage as well as the rest of my house. However the good news is, I have a vista video mostly written and I just need to fix my 5mm Vista so I can properly film it. Personally I never liked vistas however I have 5 of them in every flavor including a fully loaded strobe bar I’m trying to sell.

Our dept purchased it used and the firehouse we bought it from also bought it used. I have observed some Federal Signal lightbars have a NY in the serial number to indicate it was New York Custom

I believe there's a way however I believe you have to get creative with the circuit board. You can try contacting retro tech electronics, If anyone knows it would be them!
