  • After almost 30 years of use, the grease inside the Mono wiper assembly becomes dry which may cause sluggish operation or even failure of the wiper or the motor. Cleaning and reapplying grease on the moving parts can restore its operation.

What was the reason for lubricating? Mine stops sometimes and then works again for a few moments, then stops (hangs somewhere half way) ... it the wiper motor defective or does it need lubricant/greese or something?

In my case the grease inside was dry and the motor was having hard timing moving the wiper and eventually caused the wiper motor to fail.
I would suggest you disconnect the wiper arm from the motor and see if it does move easily. If it doesn't then it needs to be disassembled and check if it needs to be cleaned/greased, or the gears inside are broken. If it moves freely possibly it s the wiper motor that is failing.

For the plastic components I used silicone and for metal to metal contact areas I used liqui moly anti-friction for gears grease.
