Hello friends,
welcome to another rhythm guitar tutorial. In today’s session we will learn how a less than common fingering of the major scale can reveal the positions of 4 essential bar chord progressions. The
goal is to use movable shapes to achieve “stock chord progressions” so that you can easily transpose thousands of different songs. Let’s get started

Hi.. I will like to learn all bar chords .. can you help me out
Slow learner here and been at this for decades still a beginner sadly but this should help move me to intermediate skill level. Much appreciated.
I've been playing guitar for over for a year now, I play almost every day. From time to time I try to understand the theory a little more. I came here for just the barre chords progressions.
But by the way you explained why you came to these progressions... a lot of things fell into place, an aha-moment really. Thanks bro
cool username… just wanted to mention the account Logsounds
he’s an amazing teacher sharing tons and tons of those “aha moments”. every single video has people saying it in the comment sections. 😅
also i’ll mention i’ve posted a video filmed and edited by me, and with my own music. just mentioning it because my playing is definitely very personal.
i’d be happy to hear what you think and talk about theory i played it all by feeling and my own learning by ear / feeling, and have found out the corresponding theory. it’s cool getting to understand things. i’d like to get better with knowing progressions.
That trick with pressing your chest into the back of the guitar is game changer! Bookmarking this video and subbing. Great tutorial.
🙏🙏 thanks
When I do that my chords go out of tune
Jeez this is probably the most helpful video I've ever seen when it comes to theor. Thanks man!
Hey thanks so much, that’s awesome! Thanks for the positive feedback, I’m so glad it was helpful.
Honestly you simplified it so good thank you
Your students must be very lucky to have you as their teacher, the way you explain everything throughly it's amazing, great lesson
Great Work on this video. Very rarely do I find everything I searched for in one video, and then some, thats what this is for me. Heartfelt Thanks. Your a Gentleman and a Scholar.
I am only 9 months in so have tons more to learn. Been watching a lot of videos on maj/min chord progressions. Thanks for this very helpful presentation. I learned a lot and have found no better to date.
you can make your whole musical career with his second trick must watch for beginner guitar players before you throw away your guitar ( pro tip barr chords are easier in electric guitar ) or use a capo on first frest it will lower your strings a bit
Hey swiftlessons, between you and two other videos you've officially solved my problem with barre chords and understanding the fret board. I can't express how thankful I am for this. Thank you sooooooo oo much man. You're freaking awesome! God bless!
Oh my god I thought I'd never be excited about Barre chords ever. Thank you. I've been at this for years!
What’s the secret bro?
What’s the other 2 videos G ?
This video just puted a smile on my face, was looking for this information for months now , and you just explained it in 15 min
it took me literally MONTHS to find a video like this. So helpful, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Wow. Learned so much about what makes a chord and progressions in less than 15min. Great Video. Subbed!
tried to get barre chords down forever nothing clicked for me until now. went from not even able to finger them properly to playing them easily in 30 minutes with the way this was broken down. the chord progressions make it possible to practice between the fingerings rather than working them in with open chords or solos. Better than any pay for sites i have seen by far
Sweet!! Rut killer right here ty so much!! This opened so much up for me. Bar chords are tough, one year in here, they sound so awesome!! Knowing a little theory is a huge plus. Noobie enjoying the struggle!! Now to get my fingers ahead of my knowledge!! lol.
your videos are among the best i've seen, i juggle between yours and andyguitar's, they will bright up the rainy winter days
Good job sir , I'm a Filipino and I'd like so much the way did in demonstrating your lesson guitar, I learned a lot from you, thanks sir.

Thank you so much for this! Completely just changed the game learning this!
Awesome. Completely helped me wrap my head around the theory behind it. Thanks!
Great vid!! Barring any higher than the 5th fret is so hard for me since I use a nylon string, as well as me having really high action. But this tutorial helped with boosting my confidence, but more importantly my motivation to practice barre
Thank you, Rob. Love watching your videos, you are awesome. God bless you for your amazing work.

Great lesson. Please do more similar chord progression videos.
You are a gifted teacher. This is one of my favorites of your many lessons. Since I spend nearly all of my practice time on the acoustic, I appreciate your teaching on the same; however, wouldn't it be much easier to execute the lesson on an electric?
Great video
Very Nice sir,... easy to understand.... thanquuu so much
Great teaching! Thanks for doing so. 😊
always a pleasure Nicole, thanks for watching and taking a moment to comment! -Rob
2 min in and I'm lost. Why are we playing a scale? I don't know scales. I thought this was learning bar chords. My favorite thing I learning something new and then realizing there's a step you're missing but not knowing what it is. I can't wait to go write a song about this in the same tired chords that I spired wanting to grow in the first place. What's especially exciting is now learning scales when I just wanted to learn how to play a G as a bar chord.
Thanks 🙏
Good lesson, I had to subscribe.
Thanks
So helpful!!!! thank you
Thank you so much for your lesson
Great lesson, even though I am mostly lost, lol. Also having problems with the barre chord that uses the 3 fingers like the A chord, having a problem getting my 3 fingers all in one fret, but I keep trying......
try using just your 3 finger across the 3 strings, if your like me your fingers are too big and get cramped and things get muted.
You'll get it eventually, It took me some time of horrible sounding barre chords until one day I woke up and it sounded decent ! Keep it up and it will work (probably sooner than you think) !
The double barr is a good technique to learn in the long run for the “A” shape Barr chord. You barr across with your index finger like he shows, then use your ring finger as a “mini” barr across 2,3,4th strings of same fret, it just takes time and practice . It’s too hard for me too to fit all 3 fingers on one fret.
Fantástic lesson!
I’m trying to study some Harmony, very helpfull vid, thanks Master.
G B7 Em C D (1-3-6-4-5)
Why Dominant 3rd and minor 6?
Just because sounds nice?
quick question @ 7:20 i could see you placed your finger on the second string for D minor (E SHAPE) i thought finger on second string is major and if you removed it becomes Minor (Root note on 5th strings. Correct me if im wrong am hear to learn just been confused by what other guitarist teaches on youtube slight confusing.
great lesson
Very good lesson, a 100% understandable, thank you!
Nice one idol
This was so helpful
Thanks bro
Please explain the mixolydian etc. Never understood those things
My main question is does this work with any barre chords such as jazzy chords and 7th chords and stuff, or just these specific barre chords
Great lesson, thanks.
Hey thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Please share if you have a moment. -Rob
Hi Swiftlessons, great videos you make here. Thanks for the great work please can you do a tutorial for Do it twice by Bob Marley?
I like the intro
Perfect
i love it
Thanks Prashum! Many more are on the way both here and via patreon.com/swiftlessons. Enjoy your progress!
When you go with the firs progression, 1,4,5, they were all major chords. But how did you know they would be all major chords? And when are they minor chords? Is it the formula, Maj Maj Min Maj Maj Maj Min Dim? SImilar to the major scale with whole steps and half steps. And is there a universal rule for how to create a dimished chord? Thank you in advance to anyone who shares their insights :)
Nice lesson again, didn’t get the part though on the myxolydian (I know what is is and improvise in picking sometimes on it). I didn’t understand why because of that the 5th turned minor
