Fun Fact: Messier 17 in the night sky is a nebula in Sagittarius. It has many names, but the formal name it goes by is:
    The Omega Nebula.

"I want you to make me a promise..."
    *muttered* "Oh, not again!"
--exactly what I said! Except with way more tears.

One thing I love about this part is that it represents Graha so well in comparison to the others.
Estinien is like "stop being a p****!", and Shtola is "f' you I do what I want". They are both confrontational.
But Graha extends his hand to the Omicron Metion. He goes for understanding and empathy. Which is a much better reflexion of his character.
    F'ing love this game.

It's part of what I love about all of them.
Thancred's pragmatism, and ability to make the tough call.
Estinien inability to accept nonsense, thrusting straight through the bullcrap and getting to the point in the most direct manner.
Y'shtola's stubbornness, and drive to live in the truth, no matter how harsh.
Urianger's undying support, and care for his friends.
G'raha's eternal optimism, and his unwillingness to accept the mantle of "hero" that he has rightfully earned a thousand times over.
They embody who they are in these moments.

And of course, the twins. Their sacrifice representing a strive for a better future that they themselves represent as the "next generation" of heroes.

This game, man. I am convinced that there is something truly therapeutic about it. It tells you so often that you (your character) are a good person who helps people when they need it that it becomes a meme by the end of Shadowbringers- every time we go to a new zone we help the people there until they help us back. And then Endwalker puts an exclamation point on it by showing you all the people you helped at the docks.
You can't be exposed to this much raw "power of friendship" and not come out the other side better for it, is what I'm saying.

Therapeutic is a bit of an understatement lol. This game, EW specifically, brought me out of the darkest place I've been in so far. Quite literally saved my life XD

38:42 - When Garrett realizes that the login music comes from Closing in the Distance.

The log-in music with the lyrics, yes. But also the leitmotif that's everywhere from the Quest completed tune to the trailer music.

40:30 "You stand where you stand by virtue of the path you walked to get there" -G'raha's monologue at the end of 5.3 never hit quite so hard as it did in this moment

So I started playing this game again in mid 2019, and just as I was getting towards the end of Shadowbringers my father passed away unexpectedly. So the end of Shadowbringers hit me insanely hard for a number of reasons.
In september of 2021, at the height of covid, my entire family contracted covid, and my mother lost the battle, and passed on september 23rd. When EW released I can not explain how hard the story hit for me, and resonated. I spent the majority of 6.0 crying my eyes out, just utterly devastated. But it also helped me heal so much, and work through so many of the darker emotions I was going through at the time. All the grief and loss where almost impossible to bear, but the story of EW genuinely pulled me through and gave me hope that despite everything, there was still a future worth living, and a story all my own worth experiencing.
This story means so much to me on a personal level, so seeing how it resonated with you guys has been a joy to witness.

I was doing okay with all the Scions sacrifices....but I was a wreck with G'raha! I sobbed when that crystal path appeared and the lyrics kicked in.

    • @katarh
      @katarh 3 місяці тому +4

Same. Especially if you're on the "lovers" side of the spectrum with G'raha and your WoL. That's your boyfriend asking you to promise him you'll go on an adventure again one day. I was sobbing within the first minute.

I've watched a lot of WoW vets go thru this now, both in-game and on youtube. It's amazing watching those walls come down as they reach the end.

That moment where the eye turn into crystal and the music starts... that very first note is a guitar string attached straight onto my heart and will always bring up emotion as soon as its hit.

I have played through the MSQ a few times now, and I still start crying during G'raha's speech. Especially if you consider that the full song is G'raha's song to you, the Warrior of Light.

I still can't hear 'Close in the Distance' without tearing up. Every time. It is far too rare to find any sort of media that manages to connect so deeply with almost everyone that experiences it, but the dev team really did such an incredibly good job getting us to invest in and care deeply about all of these characters. And like you said, this feels like the finale of one of the best stories I've found and it has earned it so well.

the best thing about catching this on stream was the fact that i saw Garrett click on Jocat for a moment, clicked off, only to realize it was Jocat like a minute later 😂 this was great!

People's reason their tears in this zone are all different, what causes the tears is because these quests in this zone makes us thr player reflect back, whether it's on our journey through the game or something that happened to us in our personal life. And it's beautiful how naturally it does it

29:16 love seeing the discussion behind the choice and how they differ here. I went with "I can't" without a second thought and I love that the game gave me that choice. :')

So the ONE quest that had me bawling in EW is the quest you open up the video with, G'raha in Ultima Thule... it's fine, I'm not sobbing at my desk again
Edit: yep, as predicted. "For whom weeps the storm" kicks in and I immediately start bawling

Shadowbringers on the whole might be my favorite expansion but this specific moment when G'raha is being the realest and then the lyrics kick in, this moment beats anything else the game has ever given us.

I have loved watching your journey through the game because your interactions with each other and the game feel so genuine and so relatable, rather than artificial and performative as with so many streamers. I am very glad that the game and the community has helped rekindle some faith in what you do for Garrett. Hugs, best wishes, and thanks to you both.

G'raha is canonically a bard (before turning Exarch and then All Rounder - pretty sure he just picked up paladin and white mage along the line someplace), and a very good singer. That's why the lyrics come online with his sacrifice - and the lyrics are G'raha's song of hope to push you through to the very end. BRB time to bawl again.

  • @melissas4874
    @melissas4874 4 місяці тому +3

If Kyle chooses "I can't. Not again." then that is RP. There is no need to meta choices like this. I chose 1 for G'raha, but it was more that I felt I owed it to him with all he had done for us just as Urianger felt G'raha owed him. I also felt that saying that to G'raha would be like a "guilt trip" and had to respect his decision. And his speech is my favorite in UT - "what is it that makes me me". It is one some may ask themselves throughout their lives and some may just decide this one hobby makes them who they are.

Close in the distance - what can I say that hasn't been said. It perfectly encapsulates the feeling of getting *right there* in something. Seeing the light of finishing something, but remembering the journey to get there.
I managed to be lucky enough to see this preformed in person at a convention by Jason Charles Miller. It was so much fun and made me relive the ending of the expansion all over again.

18:30 A ver storm, would you say?
25:05 They're a possible future for the Garleans if they let their fear of being conquered dominate them.
28:57 Garrett realizes where this is going.
32:10 Remember when resting outside the town in Kholusia you ask the Exarch what he plans to do after the sin eaters are defeated? Such a beautiful callback.
    32:45 That music is cheating.
35:04 Remember at the end of 5.0 when we return to the Source the Exarch reaches out his hand to follow us but can't? And he muses to himself that if he's gained anything from his experiences, it was the courage to reach out his hand.
35:50 Yup. Of all the sacrifices the emotion/Meteion had no comback.
The sun rises, on a land reborn from the ashes (ARR). 'Neath the heavens (Heavensward). Blood-red skies tranquil after the storm (Stormblood). Blessed shadow (Shadowbringers.)
38:40 The login music. Tales of loss and fire and faith. /sniffle
42:00 It's our boy! You've reacted to his videos, GG guys. You should know Victor Quibbles.
    43:30 And there they are.

Speaking of teleporting with space bucks. I'm not complaining, but why is Ultima Thule one of the cheaper destinations? There are some gathering nodes out here, lest anyone wonder why I'm teleporting back and forth so frequently.

    • @cparle87
      @cparle87 3 місяці тому

Cause the game goes by some combination of how many zones you have to pass through to get there as well as distance. Ultima Thule, for instance, is only 4 zones away from Limsa. Limsa > Sharlayan > Labyrinthos > Ultima Thule. The moon on the other hand would be from Limsa to the mainland, all across Aldenard, all across Gyr Abania, over to Garlemald, then up to the Moon. Norvrandt is cheaper cause it's only one zone away form Mor Dhona.
