Oh my word, the roses on the arbor, wow-we-wow 🥰 Seems like the garden has grown so much just since the tour, everywhere you look is just beautiful. If my mom were still with us, and we lived even an hr from you, I know where we'd be headed for our Sunday ride 😊
Greeting's from Ireland, Great video and lovely garden, My day is fertiliser Friday and I feed fifty seven pot's in the front garden with tomato feed. I have six pot's with annuals in them on the windowsills and the rest are perennial's. I feed the flower bed's in early March with fish blood and bone and then mulch with homemade compost, the flower beds do not get any thing else for the rest of the year
The PW fertilizer is pretty $$ but so worth it. It is a chore to fertilize
But I really enjoy it and it gives me time to observe the changes that are taking place daily. The rose arch looks amazing!!
I stocked up in January when it was under $12. Now it's almost $22. 😮
Thanks for the tips, my garden is huge and I used a 2 gal water can and it take me pretty much all day. I went out and got one of those sprayer and man I got all of my plants in half the time. Thanks again
They recommend fertilizing this often so they can sell this expensive fertilizer.
You don’t need to fertilize that often.
I buy regular Miracle and their Bloom Booster fertilizer with great results. It’s cheaper too.
Oh my, the rose arch is spectacular! Thank you for sharing how you do your fertilizing. I really like the sprayer attachment for your hose. Have a wonderful day🐝🐞🌸
Thanks Nancy! Have a great day!
I’m such a nerd, but I love the themed days! I have tried Friday Fertilizer day for years, but Fridays are always so busy! Saturdays are the only day I can go to local nurseries so then it gets put off again! 😜 I like starting the week fertilizing on Mondays like you. Hard stuff first, get it checked off and taper off the work as the week goes on and gets busier…..Thank u for sharing! 💐
For a new gardener like myself, it's so helpful to actually see you fertilize. Thanks so much.
Your cottage garden looks fabulous. I know how much you love peonies, so you must be super excited, they are beautiful. And your Eden Roses...I could look at those ALL day!.
Same here Susan 😆😆
Great tips that I will incorporate with my annuals! Your neighbors must enjoy watching the evolution of your gardens! I would sit out with a cup of coffee and enjoy it every day. ❤
I have fish tanks in my house and I save the water from water changes are water plants with that - the nitrates and other nutrients are already fully dissolved in the water column so the plants can begin usuing them immediately. And they grow tremendous.
I really think the PW water soluble fertilizer is worth it!! I switched to it 2 years ago and saw so much improvement. Now I want to always keep up with it.
Edit: I just do it once a week (Fridays are my day) even in the summer if I have water timer running daily. And still have good results!
Oh my goodness the rose arbor is spectacular Janey. Good choice for that spot !
It’s for sure a fav part of my space!
this would be the perfect time for a podcast or audiobook listen to your favourite music or stomaching :)
Such a nice day 💗💗
Thank you for this! 😊
Love your vegetable garden fencing. So cute!!
Very helpful thank you!
Whoa!!! That rose is gorgeous!!
Thank you!! I love it so much 💗💗
This was so helpful/ thanks!
Love your Garden is such beautiful. Thank you for sharing your ideas you do on fertilizing! 😍
Thanks for putting in the word about runoff!
Beautiful. I am glad I found your channel as I am in zone 9 b in Florida .
Your Shirley Temple peonies are
✨ BEAUTIFUL ✨
thanks for sharing.
The garden looks great. Hope you have a great day.
Thank you Tammy! You too 💗
The miracle gro water soluble bloom booster works the same as the proven winners one.
Good tip! But I’m quite partial to Proven Winners 😉
Great job Janey 🍃🌸🍃
Thank you Jasmine 💗
Hi Janey 🌺Well done ,nice video how you fertilize your plants . I love it and the white flowers of peony looks charming and amazing also the flowers of the roses . Have afantastic day and Happy mother's day . 🌺🌻🌺
wow the roses you have on the arch are BOMB, so gorgeous!
They are SHOWING OFF these days! I love it!
I am learning so much from you, thank you for your content!
That makes me SO happy Marlene!!
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat I’m watching you right now taking about your succulent and houseplant class!
Your climbing Rose is stunning🌹
Thank you! I am such a fan Wende!!
Janie, could you show us a budworm and slug and then how to apply Bt and sluggo?
Aack! That would be disastrous! Those of us who need to spray Bt for budworm don’t wait to see them or our plants would be devastated. I spray once a week. One can just sprinkle a little Sluggo around the plant. Easy. Prevention is key!
Yes Marilyn! I’ll add that to my video list!
Thank you for this video!! I just planted some supertunia vista bubblegum & am SO excited to see them flourish😍
Oh you will be obsessed!!!
Your May garden is gorgeous! The area next to the oak tree garden is a real success and once again, the dark fence was such a good choice. Thanks from a very different 9b in Florida.🌸
Thanks so much! Yesss, I love the dark fence!
I wonder upon your site today. I was so happy to find someone that gardens in my zone! I am in San Diego, but it is still zone 9. Thank you for explaining the whole fertilizing routine. It is something I struggle with understanding and using the equipment. I am so grateful❣️
I will definitely purchase one of those little bottles for fertilizing because I have a bout 16 roses to fertilize wow your roses look beautiful can’t wait for my to get that big .Good Day🌹
Hi Janey I’ve been a subscriber for a few months now and I’m soooo happy to have found you ! I live in the Bay Area but inland where we are hot in the summer just like Davis. Your garden is so beautiful and watching your videos give me so much inspiration and ideas for my own yard 😊 thank you!
Yayyyyy Patricia! I’m so glad you’re here and are finding my videos helpful!
Fertilizing is my least favorite thing to do. Your Eden roses are beautiful! I just planted one this spring. Thank you for sharing so much with us.
I fertilize on Monday’s and Thursday is my thirsty Thursday for my house plants!!
My hubby just bought me the Dr. Alexander Fleming peony as a surprise after my surgery yesterday! After seeing yours I’m so excited for mine to bloom! Great video!
Looking forward to seeing videos for all the other days - appreciate all the tips you can provide (I am trying gardening slowly! As typically I kill any plant that comes my way - except the ones I really don’t want in my garden! Lol)
Slowly but surely is that way to go! Good luck Anna 💗😃
Thanks Janey. 🌷💚🙃
Piones are incredible, unbelievable, gorgeous. I will try your " ice recipe " this year really hope it will work for me as well ( Houston 9 b zone) .Thank you for update.
Thank you SO much for this video. I have wondered how I know if I am still fertilizing when using a hose end sprayer. I received my Sugrubbie sun hats this weekend and am loving them!
Omg! I just spotted you calla lilly under your crapemertel tree.they are huge.holy smokes! Wow😊
right? they are so pretty!!
So, I just about hurled my lunch when I saw you pouring the fish and seaweed fertilizer, 😄, but seriously... I can imagine the smell. 🥴
Your garden is gorgeous as always! Happy gardening!! 👩🏼🌾
Lolololol!!!!
Hu Janey! Ive been watching your channel for a while now and i really enjoy seeing how your garden is just transforming into this beautiful garden! Lol, I was waiting and hoping youd show us how you fertilize your beautiful, amazing roses on that arch! Please, how do you fertilize those roses!
Great video. Thanks for the information. I want that collapsable watering hose! 🌿M
Its great! So light when no water is in it
I also have a fabric hose. I put two 100 footers together. So much lighter and easier to handle than a rubber or whatever regular hoses are.
How did you connect them? I'd love to put 2 together!
I have two 75 foot ones from Sam’s club, and I just love them!
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat they just screw together, the one faucet side and one attachment side together. Quick connects could work too I bet.
@@thebuzzybumblebee15 Ahh thank you!! I'm going to try this!
It will be very nice
I think so 🤞🏻
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat I always have my fingers crossed 🤞- coastal Virginia can get a bit weather intense
Scheduling task makes the most since when you also work a full time job.
Your rose is amazing. Mine is about 25 years old, and is all budded up, I live far north of you, but I will send a photo next week or so when she’s blooming. Eden climber is just the best rose.
I would love to see that Angela!!
Janey, this one video successfully cleared all the confusion I’ve ever had with fertilising, and I’m not even in the US! You are a worldwide Master Gardener 💚
YES! Best comment ever Claudia thank you!
I found some PW here in Australia. I planted 4 Supertunia vista bubblegum this summer just gone (we are in winter now) and they looked amazing. So many people asked me what they were so I’m hoping we will be more PW selection for next season 💖
GIRL!! Those roses!! If you read the label of the water soluble fertilizer it says that if you have a container that's about 3 feet wide then you're supposed to give it about 2 GALLONS of fertilizer. A 10 inch diameter pot is supposed to get about a half a gallon. Almost all my annuals are planted in pots. I use 3- 5 gallon buckets and put them in my garden cart and wheel them around. I use a vintage enamel pot to dip and pour the fertilize with. I'm doing good to fertilize them twice a month.
Oh my, that is why I can't stick exactly to the specifications, I would be spending alllll my time fertilizing! 😆
thank you for showing us how you fertilize your annuals! Will you also do a video on how you fertilize your perennials?
Yes please show how you fertilize perennials
Thank you so much for such informative videos! What about perennial fertilizing? Also, a video on mulches soon?.😊
All your hard work is really paying off! It is so beautiful! Do you water your annuals every day and for how long? Do you fertilize early so that it evaporates before it gets hot? Thank you for all your advice😊
So I've never met a hose end fertilizer sprayer that I trusted. 😄 I just don't think you can accurately tell how much you're using. There's a fair amount of guesswork in trying to determine how much you have left in the sprayer. I know you look to see how much of the granules are on the bottom to see if you can keep going, but to me that's still guessing on a product that, as you pointed out, is quite expensive. The method I use is one I first saw on Gardening with Creekside (Jenny). I use a 5-gallon bucket of water with 5 scoops of fertilizer mixed in. Then I use an empty fertilizer container and dip it in and then pour it on my plants. I use the fertilizer bucket that's the size of the PW water soluble fertilzer. I use one bucket per plant or sometimes half a bucket when the plant is still small. It's a bit more time-consuming than the hose sprayer, but less time-consuming than a watering can. And if you have kids it's an easy job they can do. My 11 yr old granddaughter does most of my fertilizing! 😊 Also wanted to mention that most of my plants are also PW, but after years of using both, I actually prefer Jack's Blossom Booster. They're about the same price but the phosphate count is much higher in Jack's (10-30-20) than PW (24-12-17) and I believe that's why Jack's give me more blooms. But sometimes I do rotate them. I also use the PW time release granules when planting. But it might be good to note that you can also use it on established plants. The spread rate is in the directions. 😊 (BTW, like you, I also have a LOT of annuals and some perennials to fertize. I garden on a 1/2 acre lot.)
Great info, thanks so much!👏🇨🇦
I do the exact same thing. Having a yard schedule is a great idea and you won't feel so overwhelmed, especially if you have a lot of plants. Your storage space is extremely organized. I should organize my yard stuff as well. Did you do a video on that?
Yes I did! Its a garage organization video I think came out in January this year?
@@DigPlantWaterRepeat Awesome! I will watch that next and thank you!
Your videos have taught me so much! So thankful since I'm such a beginner. Would you do a video on how you maintain your roses and what you learned in your master Gardners class that pertains to rose care?😍
Great info!!! Do you have info on fertilizing perennials, shrubs, and evergreens? Thank you!!
A hoselink in charcoal next to your dark fence would look great! Then you wouldn't need to drag the hose from the front and around your rose trellis.
Janie your garden is lovely. Do you also fertilize bushes and perennials?
You need a hoselink in your front yard. I think it's BOGO right now, just a suggestion. Great garden!
Disregard you just said why you use the hose you use.
Janie, do you have a video that talks about your roses on your arbor? My son-in-law built me an arbor for Mother’s Day and I am clueless about roses. Thank you.
Why are you spraying the leaves & flowers of the annuals and not the ground around the base? Wouldn’t that get to roots faster? Thanks ☺️
Your garden is so gorgeous! I also garden in zone 9b, and it's so nice to learn from such a successful gardener in my same zone! I want to start doing the weekly fertilizer, I know it's especially important in a hot climate. Thank you so much for explaining the who fertilizing thing, I'm excited to try the PW fertilizer, but here's what confuses me.... when spraying the leaves with the fertilizer as you are today, aren't you concerned that you are washing off the BT for the budworms on supertunias and geraniums? I'm just not sure how to balance these 2 treatments and would sure appreciate your advice as you clearly have it mastered!
This is such a helpful video. Do you fertilize your foxgloves? What do you use.
Another great vid! But gosh PW fertilizer is about $22. that’s a $100 a month? Having said that you do have a big beautiful garden!
New subscriber here, I love your garden. I really enjoyed the video. What is the name of the tall purple flowers behind the Shirley Temple Peony’s? Thank you!
So you use a bad of the PW fertilizer every time you fertilize? Seems like that would get pricey or does that go longer than one treatment
Hi, Janey - Question for you. Do you do any preventative spraying? For example, Laura sprays her verbena for budworms as she gets them every year. Is that a good practice? Do you use something like Neem Oil on your plants as a preventative measure? Thanks!
Janey what kind of roses are on your arbor? They are beautiful
Love your content. In another episode you talked about using sluggo for snails. How do you water/fertilize so that the sluggo doesnt get mushy and moldy?!?
Great question! I would like to know too, as mine got mouldy as well!😝🇨🇦
I know what I need to buy , thank you so much. Question ..do they also have a fertilizer for my vegetable garden?
I thought that one is not supposed to top spray fertilizer such that it gets on the leaves and blooms?
Your yard is gorgeous, just wondering I always thought you had to water first then apply fertilizer
How do you fertilize your perennials?? Like your sages. I saw you do the verbena. I just planted a couple of the mystic spires sage and was wondering how to fertilize.
Thx for this! I do have questions😊! It looks like there is more topical than root fertilizing? If not using a hose sprayer, should we do half doses maybe? Does one of your bags usually last for all your annuals (one application)? This will be my first year fertilizing annuals. I'm in zone 6, it rains here more often than in your zone. Even in Summer.
My days are "Maintenance Monday" and "Fertilize Friday".
Could you possibly put seaweed fertilizer in the sprayer if you are covering more for organic use? If so do you have any tips on knowing when it would be out like the granule nonorganic?
I use that same fertilizer dispenser. I wish they could come out with one that has a long handle so I don’t have to bend over! I saw you sprayed the petals of the flowers. When I worked at a greenhouse they always told us to not spray the flowers, to just get the bottom of the plant, do you see any damage on the petals or flowers after you fertilize them?
The gardens look amazing! Does the Monday fertilizing take the place of the regular drip irrigation watering? Since you go through about 2 of those containers a month, are you able to buy them in bulk and get a discount? Sorry for so many questions. I’ve never really fertilized my annuals (which is why they don’t look like yours - LOL) so now I want to up my annual game.
I don't stop by irrigation on Mondays, I just keep it simple and add to it hoping the plants like the extra drink of water!
Hi Janey,
I tend to water the garden first and then spray fertilizer as it will soak deeper and reach the roots better, plus you don't need to feed so often.
Best to do any watering early morning or close to dusk, before the hot sun.....most of your fertilizer will stay on the leaves instead of reaching the roots.
Helpful hints, Jo😊
Hope this helps, Jo.
Thanks Jo! My irrigation runs at around 4 am and I try to fertilize first thing in the morning! I don't always get to it, but I try! I appreciate the tip! 💗
Good morning! Schedules can be so helpful. I have noticed you use a Hoselink in the past and in todays video there was mention of a canvas type hose.
Is this type of hose the Hoselink setup uses?
I have a Hoselink, and no, their hoses aren’t canvas.
@@loricawley54 Thanks!
Thank you for the great video, can we also fertilize perinnials?
If they are blooming profusely I would! Most perennials don't bloom as much as annuals though so usually one application of slow release fertilizer in the spring is enough!
Do you have a link on how you made your wattle fence? It is gorgeous❤
I have videos on it! Just search my channel name and wattle fence 💗
How do you grow peonies in zone 9b? I live central Florida, which is also 9b. I have tried with no success. There Absolutely beautiful.
So is this more of a foliage spray fertilizing rather than systemic method? I thought I had to water it in deeply for the roots
It looks likes you are fertilizing on the leaves, rather than on the ground where it would get to your roots.
Is that what we should be doing?
Your garden looks fabulous!!!❤
Ideally you should be fertilizing the ground if you are using the PW fertilizer! Sometimes I just can't be bothered to bend down 😆
What do you use and do for your pest control day?????
Jamie how are those sea lavender doing in the oak tree bed?
Beautiful!! They are super happy and starting to bloom. I'll make sure to show them in a video!
Do you get black bean aphids? I planted a rose of Sharon last fall and I recently noticed it is covered with thousands of aphids. I blast them off with a hose daily and then drench the plant with Neem oil but I can’t get rid of them. Any suggestions/experience?
wow! going to buy the fertlizer! however, does that mean you spend $20 a week for fertilizing your yard?
how much fertilizer do you put in your sprayer? And your garden looks fabulous!
As she showed in the video, one bag. 🇨🇦
The PW fertilizer is a bit pricey and not sure I could afford to fertilize weekly, I have 1 acre property and so many plants.
Was the 1 bag enough for your whole garden?
So to sum it up - you use an entire tub of Proven Winners Water soluble fertilizer every week?
Is it okay to spray fertilizer on annual flowers and foliage? My petunias turned mushy and look like they're about to die when I sprayed them.
What was the name of that fine mulch you used in your garden?
