Get so heavy hearted seeing him Sitting in that chair riddled with so many health issues. His talent was so immense. I for one think he was one of the best on the planet.
JESUCRISTO. QUE GRAN MAESTRIA PARA LA GUITARRA. GRANDE SHWAN LANE!!!!
God damn that is great!! I listened to the last minute over and over and over............My poor 57 year old arthritic hand can almost do it.🙂🙃😇🎸🕊
This version of Naima (John Coltrane) is some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard.
love this sound R.I.P. Shawn lane- great bassplayer - great drummer!!
I was there! Awesome show. Shawn had other worldly, jaw dropping talent.
Personae @ 29:38 becomes legend ...best version of that tune I've heard or seen ...he was definitely dialed-in that night. Thanks for the post "prop"
just so beautiful - I saw them in Berlin one time,,,
Shawn was like a painter
Master Artist! God must have wanted him up there; rightly so......God Rest Your Soul, Shawn........may You rest in Peace..Amen.
Music from another dimension...
Shawn's phrasing is unique...love it...👍😁👑
Jesus christ!!! Personae was absolutely ballistic:)
I was at this show, along with the other 2 shows in VA. Really wish those "guys" who filmed the shows in Blacksburg and the show right after that one would post something. Those other 2 shows are a hidden treasure.
I know there is video recording from the show at Earthshaking Music, Atlanta, GA on 26 April 2002 around.
I was at this show also. I was standing near the front to the left of Shawn. I got a chance to see him perform in 96 in Georgetown. Stringcheese opened for him. My best friends and I spoke with Shawn and Jonas for about 20 mins after the show. Very humble guys! I was wearing my Yngwie hat. They liked it haha Shawn Lane is one of a kind. His playing is something you didnt think a human could play. When I die I hope to hear Yngwie and Shawn playing at the pearly gates to greet me.
Yes I am. But I attended any show that was there. Unfortunately Shawn Lane wasnt that well known back then. In those shows people went to see String Cheese and in the Falls Church show people were were there because it was earth day. There were some "shred" fans there that had no idea who Shawn Lane was. I told them they will be shocked. But Im glad Shawn is getting more recognized today. Thats ironic how the great ones dont get noticed until after they pass on.
It's too bad you didn't see the 2 shows before this one, because they were way better. Not that this particular one wasn't awesome.
I do have a soundboard recording from Blacksburg (VA) on April 20, 2002 which is really amazing. I think there also is a recording from the day after in Floyd (VA) in circulation which I could not get hold of so far.
thanks a million for this amazing video !!
Congrats for the sound...
29:36 Love this track
Love at 31:19 when Shawn puts his cigarette away, you know the shits about to get real
God apt q-258 is killer.
He was channeling middle eastern music and ragas into his repertoire
Haven’t heard before thanks for uploading!
Does Shawn have any Christmas Songs that he did? I'd really like to hear that angelic Spirit.
Do you have this for DL? I remember it was posted online like...17-18 years ago for download on his site
27:22 final fantasy
Amazing show! Did the drummer mess up during the intro?
He walked off in disgust after Jonas put his hand up to say “no” don’t start the song proper.
what happened at the end its cut?...would like to buy this anyone can help tx
24:15 psychedelic
Fuck ! Lane the best
06:52 does Shawn sweep pick?!
Which tuning is Shawn playing in?
+metalforlife4ever - K-I-L-L-E-R !
Haley Sabai Haha
Can this be gotten on dvd?
Sadly not.
propylaen2001 that’s too bad. I watch all the greats from satriani to metheney, all with these wonderfully filmed shows, and I think what a shame it is that there aren’t more in circulation of him. The Paris dvd is a great gift, but there should have been more. Where did you get the footage?
@@Bullroarer-oj3sp, several years ago it was available on the AbstractLogix website but has long been taken down since. I have it on DVD-R in better quality, also an audience recording on CDR which is twice as long. You may want to contact me privately.
@@propylaen2001 Dude, it would be a great service to mankind if you would upload that!
7:06 WTF is this guy on to simply leave this place ???
***** possible :D
7:32 why was shawn the only one to ever do that?
***** that could really be the reason
+Doktor Jekyll van Hyde The first one to do that exact line you mean? Because Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, and tons of other players have sang lines in unison with the guitar. Not to say anyone played or sounded like Shawn.
Greg Vinson
never noticed that in hendrix' playing, any examples?
Doktor Jekyll van Hyde Your comment made me realize I don't listen to enough Jimi these days, but I'm pretty he sings some unison lines with his guitar on Band of Gypsies; its a blues thing; he isn't the only blues artist to do it, but damn, it was killer!
He did it on some other songs too; just can't remember which ones right off the top.
George Benson is a real master of the technique; he really does some difficult jazz lines with it. But Shawn does it fantastically well too. For me, John Mclaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, and Shawn Lane are peers, and nobody else quite touches that level, at least in the electric fusion style. Hindustani slide master Debashish Bhattacharya is also one of the best guitarists I've ever heard, but its such different music that its kind of impossible to compare.
Definitely, in the same class with John Mclaughlin, , but, better at rock and neo classical than John.
07:32 As much as I respect Shawns playing, that sounded mostly funny actually
It is also evidence he hears most every note before he plays it, even at his speeds and complexity.
He was absolutely a brilliant musician. Guitar was one of any instruments he wanted to Express on w full complete capacity. His ear ,was totally unique . Technically he could play anything. Most of all he was humble and kind. That impresses me most.
The old microphone in the bar garbage can recording technique.
