Shawn Lane with The Willys, Live from Memphis Sound October 8th, 1988 (Full Show)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 сер 2024
- I didn't realize until recently that this gig was not available in full on UA-cam, so here you go! From what I can tell, this is a live radio concert made by The Willys in October of 1988. Of all of the Willys bootlegs that are out there, this is easily the best one available in terms of the audio quality. It should go without saying that the performance itself is phenomenal...if you're at all a fan of 80s hard rock and/or Shawn Lane, hold onto your butt!
The Willys are:
Sam Bryant: Keyboards/Vocals
Rob Caudill: Bass/Vocals
Russ Caudill: Drums
Shawn Lane: Guitar and Insanity
I do not own the rights to this music, and I have not in any way monetized this video or am intending to profit off of the work of these musicians. I am simply a fan who is making this exceptional recording available to others. If any member of The Willys is not cool with me uploading this video, PLEASE contact me and I will remove it. Likewise, if I have misstated any information about this gig, please let me know and I will update it (I'm going off of what's available online, so it's very possible I got something wrong).

I'm really glad everyone is enjoying the upload! Thanks for the nice comments. It makes me happy to know that some of you have never heard this concert, while others had a copy before and are now able to listen to it again.
It sounds like a studio recording, what a great band! Shawn of course too, jeez....
Thank you so much! I just found this. I love Shawn Lane but I didn't know he had this band. He was so ahead of his time!
is this all covers or covers and some originals?
Thank you. I'm 62 and just discovered Shawn. I am so thankful for all the videos. His genius is being kept alive.
What a fantastic mix! Live concerts at this level truly reveal the talents and polish of the musicians-not to mention the FOH engineer! This is a super group of the best proportions, featuring one the best guitar players to have ever lived.
this sound was what you dreamed of when you captured tapes from the radio back then, magic
Very good band that deserved more success, amazing live performance!
That solo at the end of all 'All along the whatchtower"...
I seldom shiver when listening to music and mind you, i know a bit of Shawn Lanes music, but that is just out of this world.
He seems to teach/show us something here. Something about ourselves. I cannot name it, but we have surely completely forgotten about it.
Humans are more than we are aware of.
The singer Rob Caudill has been a very successful Rod Stewart impersonator for years now, I mean he has toured the world doing Rod
Shawn Lane: Guitar and Insanity ahaha!
Wow the mastering on this is soo brilliant. The Willys were beyond all pop
Shawn's playing on All Along the Watchtower is just mind-boggling.
Shawn’s playing on every thing he’s ever done is amazing and mind boggling.

Indeed.
Incredible sound for live 1988, wow
I can't understand why they didn't have a bigger success.. the tunes are very catchy, in the spirit of that era with really great pop/ FM rock vocals and of course with the guitar work of Shawn Lane...In my opinion even the name of the band is very catchy.
Image. They have to look as good as they sound. Sad but true. Plus they have to be willing to do the bidding of those in control of the purse strings.
Epic 1980s power pop, Shawn knocks it to an ultra level.
Prodigy is the word to begin with. Plus hardworking, dedication, being open minded in every way makes a genius like Shawn Lane. May him Rest In Peace.
Just found this vid. So cool! Every single one of these guys I've either jammed with, played a few gigs together OR were former members of my band! I hired Sam for something like a wedding or Christmas party type gig.. Shawn was actually in one of my bands in the early 80s (with Bassist, Robert Love.. which is how I met Shawn) for about a year (audio slideshows available on my channel). Russ & I did a few gigs together (back when he had a broken leg!) & I've jammed with both Rob & Russ at the same time at Murphy's on Madison (& probably a few more local pubs/bars/clubs). Small world!
Hey, I would like to hear Shawn's audio from your channel, can you send me the links please?

SpoonyLegs13 Very useful! Thank you C:
We need a "Shred Listing", let's be honest... It's why we're all here.
Is it possible to get an audio copy? I had a cassette copy back in 88’ from GIT. But it got damaged from time and heat. Let me know because I have been looking for this particular recording for years and even Shawns family doesn’t have it.
The ending of All Along the Watchtower, WOW. I've been a fan of Shawn Lane for a long time but that still scared me.
2024 this guitar sounds is really good❤
Shawn Lane was one of the best ever!

Is this a honor tributo to Eric Johnson - Bristol Shore solo?? Awesomeeeee!!!
Shawn loved Eric Johnson and he definitely played the passage in question just for the radio audience. On All that I Want he quoted Allan Holdsworth’s In the dead of Night solo for the first few bars.
Absolutely insane mastering. Shawn's classic tone. Killer tracks. Big smile!
Such a chrisp sound!
Mannnn what an incredible gem. I didn't even know about this especially being a life long HUGE Shawn Lane fan. Each song is so well thought out and melodious. Is there any place I can purchase a studio version of this album? I'd love to be able to upload on my device and listen on drives and such.
No conocía este grupo pero si a Shawn Lane, y me ha gustado mucho, es fantástico. Gracias por compartir, suena genial!!!

Wow this is validation that my memory is not failing me. They were really that incredible! and anytime there is new audio surface with Shawn Lane that's a special gift from heaven!
That was absolutely incredible.!!!! These guys would have wiped the floor with many of the biggest names in hair metal bands of the day.! Absolutely flawless guitar playing and sound..💖👌👍🤘🤘🤘🤘
Wow! no way this is live, it sounds like it was recorded in a studio!
It was -- played live in front of an audience in a studio.
Was driving by the Pyramid in Memphis listening to WEGR when this came on. When they played All Along the Watchtower the DJ went nutz. Saw them almost weekly for 4 yrs .
Its song six lol. Atypical of what they usually played
I used to watch them many weeks at Alfred's East.
This sounds good enough to produce a CD.Something to think about.Shawn Lane has a huge international following to this day and they would buy this I guarantee.
For sure. I'd buy it. Sounds great!
this is phenomenal
One of the greatest gifts to music gone far too soon. 😥
Wow. I had this recorded from the original broadcast but time passes and things are lost. I was at this show and never thought I’d hear it again. Thank you so much for this
I now must state what others already did. Wow, hear that sound of a live recording captured in 1988! WTF!!! If this was the FOH mix this concert must have sounded awesome at the venue. This is awesome work of techs and the live mixing guy. Post recording work was then done fabulous too, as well as the mastering process. I mean this is YT and even with the poor 360 streaming quality this sounds great. Sure there was an awesome band playing great too! The sound kills me, WTF!!!
I just shared it to mid-south concerts, When Memphis Rocked FB page and there will be a lot of happy folks. Rob Caudill is also a member there
Good grief, unbelievable playing from Shawn Lane!! So fluid, ridiculously good.
Thanks for sharing, I've never heard this before
used to watch these guys in Memphis all the time. The willy Nullys!!
First song sounds like the band Survivor. I like this 80's pop stuff, always brilliant parts. This is great thanks for sharing.
This is sublime!
To hear the whole gig. ..huge thank you for this!
Scotland Salutes you!!
Thank you! I used to have this on a cassette that got lost a few years ago...THANK YOU!!!
I still have mine!!
awesome, thanks a billion for uploading
Russ Caudill is a phenomenal singer too. Not sure if he's singing on this show or not. Russ could have been a star! I add this in light of him not being listed as a "vocalist". Damn he was great! Power pop/rock greatness .
Rob Caudill*
Yes it's him.
Oh, this is cool music, in this the group is all great, guitar, keyboard, vocal, drums. I'm really enjoy.
hell of good music
Two days after my fourth birthday 🤣 If only I was old enough to comprehend the otherworldlyness of Lane.
genius hard music -forever
The song All That I want written and sung by Sam Bryant was recorded later by Robin Trower
Tom Ward RIP wrote all that I want. Shawn’s guitar solo is taken from the band UK - In the dead of Night.
I still have an MP3 of AATW I recorded off the radio broadcast....still amazing after all these years.
Always incredible Shawn lane .. solid band as well
Thank you! Simply thank you.
I love everything from Shawn Lane. Sound recording in this show is phenomenal, this is really something special. I've barely never heard this music style played so well, catchy, inspired.Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for this! Too bad the drums are a bit overpowering in the mix in some places, but it is what it is. It still sounds fooooking stellar!
Thanks a lot for the upload.. Thoroughly enjoyed.. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I know Shawn since this man is a legend but I haven't heard him with this band yet, great music, thanks! I guess they never made a studio record. (LP)
This is pure gold! thanks a lot, man!!!!
Great mix too!
badass!
Just came across this. LETS GO! Thanks for the upload!
Great to hear more! I've listened to the All Along The Watchtower from this, many times in awe.
8:02 hard jaZZ-rock - ever accompani me... .
The 2nd solo at the end of Kid Million is just so fucking aggressive and amazing!!
Like even to the casual listener who has no idea who Shawn lane was would be like wtf is going on in the kid million solos. The absolute control in the first solo considering the phrasing and speed and then the 2nd one. It’s still fresh in 2024.
Oh my goodness, this is just fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
great
wow!!
I very like rock is Shawn style.
geniuses
Amazing sound quality, creative content born from a lot of experiences in immature toxic relationships😆
Warner Brothers should have given a record contract to this BAND, rather than Shawn if they really wanted a commercial product.
they could have both if they were so fuckin' intelligent....but warner was dumb and dumber with their artistic choices
Love Shawn! What the heck is Rod Stewart doing in the picture though?
I think as good as UYEB, Michel Jackson, Steps Ahead and Chuck Loeb
P H E N O M E N A L playing...
I know The WIllys were mainly a cover band but are these originals? I had a quick search but couldn't find much information about the tracks. Seems weird that they never really released any material like this? Any info would be great :)
I'm wondering this as well. They seem like originals to me.
Damn, this dude plays better than C.C. Deville!
This first song could totally be on Stranger Things soundtrack :D
Is anyone know what guitar brand is that Shawn holding? I'm really curious..
I think it's a Roland G303, Pat Metheny also played one
Shawn used that same guitar on Simple Lives, which was my recording class project and I was the engineer. I got to spend six hours up close watching Shawn.
