The senzu beans can restore one’s health and stamina. The beans can practically bring some one who’s about to die of injuries back to full health. They don’t work against illness though

In the original, it was a heart virus, I always assumed the beans also restored the virus power and boosted it

The RR thing stands for Red Ribbon Army. It was an antagonistic organisation in the original Dragonball series. The man who build the androids worked for them.
The skater is actually listening to Guerrilla radio and also the line where Goku asks “Do androids dream of electric sheep” is the name of the book that the film Blade Runner was based on.

So, in the future, Goku DIES from that heart disease. Trunks gave him an antidote that will allow him to SURVIVE the disease, but he still goes tbrough having thw disease
The running joke with the Intro Disclaimer read has always been that the person reading it is likely to die that episode. That's why Yamcha was starting to flashback to the last time he did it and "get a bad feeling" after he finished. It's a subtle joke I continue to find hilarious.
If there's no death the person usually has a big part to play in the episode
RR means Red Ribbon. Goku destroyed the Red Ribbon Army when he was a kid in Dragon Ball.

The R R stands for Red Ribbon army. Goku destroyed them as a child. That's why they have a grudge against him. Senzu beans do heal. Back in the Namek saga Gohan was kicked so hard in the head his neck was broken, but a senzu bean healed him back to full life seconds after eating it. Goku was having a heart attack. That's why Trunks went back in time. Goku originally died of a heart attack before the androids showed up. Bulma made a heart medicine to save his life and sent Trunks to give it to him in the past.
If you wanna know how Vegeta became a Super Saiyan, you gotta watch the actual show. He goes on about a speech and a flashback about how he achieved it and he sounded poetic and was beautifully done.
Yamcha has been a fan-appointed laughing stock ever since he got dropped by a Saibaman, though Toriyama has since gone on record to say it only happened because his guard was down, and that he could easily take down a Saibaman in normal circumstances. TFS did not "add fuel to a fire," they simply offered a louder voice for what everyone was already saying. For what it's worth, Yamcha could still single-handedly solo the rosters of MOST other anime/manga without serious repercussion.
Yeah he could easily destroy the moon, if not a whole planet by that point, its pretty nuts.

Have you noticed name themes in the show? Saiyans are named after vegetables (Kakarot being Carrot, Raditz being Radish, Vegeta being Vegetable). Bulmas last name is “briefs” and her son is “trunks”, so they are underwear related names.
Honestly it didn’t start hitting us until Trunks. We had no idea Bulma’s last name was briefs or that Kakarot and Vegeta translated to those either. 🤣

"Bulma" is supposed to be "bloomers". And her mom, according to the writer, is actually named "Panchie" ("panties"). AND, in GT, Trunks will have a sister named "Bra".
I believe "Gohan" means something like rice in japanase or sushi rice.. Toriyama was really inspired when thinking names.

When Krillin says Bulma's boobs are amazing and she thinks "just take the compliment" it's a callback to Goku and Vegeta's pink shirt moment to showing that Bulma and Vegeta do "get" each other. It's cute.
One thing a lot of people miss is that every time a major character dies they narrate the disclaimer at the beginning of the episode, that’s why yamcha was nervous.

The scene where the old man gets lifted out of his car by the neck is actually heavily censored. In the Manga, 20/Gero just squeezes his neck til his head pops off.
The idea of Bulma and Vegeta together was so out of left field the team working with Toriyama thought he was smoking crack(figuratively).
Yeah, Bulma and Vegeta makes no sense, it's really just a plot device for introducing Trunks, tbh. However, it develops more later on and that's why people like them. Chi Chi and Goku also happened out of left field and it was Chi Chi's stubbornness that pushed them together. Toriyama said he is not good at romance, that was an understatement.
Toriyama makes one actually decent romance start to a certain couple later on.
I wouldn't go quite that far, as to say there was no reason outside plot.
Vegeta was an isolated, historically lower-class (in galactic scale) warrior with a power/self-worth complex, and Bulma was an female intellectual fighting for a place within her male-dominated reality. I can see how there were vulnerabilities in each, that could have felt inviting to the other. They both probably initially looked for love within those they deemed inferior.
Chi-Chi was a literal princess who had never experienced pushback for her desires, and Goku was a country bumpkin who thought 'love' was a kind of food he was in line to sample. Theirs is a perfect comedy marriage and not a mystery to me at all.
I think Toriyama writes brilliant love stories; he just uses the lens of comedy to do it, and in doing so, tends to try to subvert expectation as much as possible.
Or maybe I should rephrase that to:

Yeah and Dragonball is a comdedy first-and-foremost and Dragonball Z is an action shonen with comedic elements still in it. Even if the romance was compelling I wouldn't want it in DBZ, or for it to be focused on in lieu of what the show is supposed to be about, it just doesn't belong.

afaik you also cant be wished back by the dragonballs if you die of natural causes, in trunks's future goku died of heart failure before the androids appeared and couldnt be wished back to life
Goku was already wished back by Earth's Dragonballs, and they didn't have time to try and get him back with the other set.
Did anyone else notice how 19’s voice dropped an octave or so after the reboot when he started winning the fight against Goku but then went back up to the original higher pitch after he got scared by Vegeta?
So some people have already explained that the senzu beans heal your injury's, but I want to kind of add to that. Someone might've already said this stuff and I might get some things wrong, but anyways. So the senzu beans not only heal you, but completely restore your stamina. I believe they also somehow make you feel full for 10 days and give you 10 days worth nutrients without overdosing you on those nutrients. They're powerful enough that you can actually bite them in half and share them and they still work pretty well. I think it's also implied somewhere that if you take one immediately after losing a limb that you could get that limb back, but idk how canon that is. Again I could be wrong about all of this, but I know I've heard this stuff before.
It could be canon considering that yamcha got a hole in his chest that got patched after the sensu bean.
I'd assume you could regenerate parts of your hand, but not a whole arm-- and that it would have to be a fresh wound.
Vegeta's transportation in the original DBZ was epic. I would watch the original video.
24:06 - notice that it is Yamcha, and he is getting more distant at a rate of one kilometer per second. That is 3600 kilometers per hour or about Mach 2.9. So the weakest person in the group while carrying someone else, can move at a speed that is only exceeded by the SR-71. Makes you wonder what the various air traffic control people around the world think when these guys are flying.
5:18 So this song is an... odd one. In the first english dub of the show, this was a weird out-of-context flavor line from Yamcha in an episode leading up to Mecha-Frieza arriving on Earth. TFS thought to take this line that most people probably forgot existed from both the passage of time and multiple re-dubs later, and turn it into a song he was forced to make to get by that follows him around to further humiliate him.

RR stands for red ribbon, a army that goku defeated when he was young. Why they’re here or how for now is unknown, but android 20 clearly hates him for what he did.
True Saiyan names are after vegetables, Kakarrot carrot/human name Goku (a food) and fam named after foods (Gohan & Goten)

The thing with Dragon ball z names is that they all fit a theme.
Dr Briefs daughter is named Bulma which means Bloomers aka girls shorts. Her son is Trunks etc
Vegeta = Vegetable. Kakarot = Carrot. Raditz = Radish. Nappa = cabbage. it goes on and on.
The thing about Goku with boys and girls names, is that it's a hint to the OG Dragonball, when he was little and still a bit in his adulthood, Goku can't differienciate boys to girls.
So, in the abriedged, they made that joke some times.

Trunks also apparently is feminine in the world of dragon ball as Goku thought he was a girl when he showed up and in the broly movie so did both broly and Paragus, probably a reference to the bishopen trope in anime which trunks kind of fits though on the lower end.
Pausing more as you go is probably better for retention rates, yeah. But also, a lot of reactors take notes so they remember to bring up things during the discussion at the end.

The RR on their red Red Ribbon ribbon is the logo of the Red Ribbon army. Future Trunks kinda brought it up, but it was only 2-3 seconds of his long speech. And you wouldn't know what he's talking about if you haven't watched/read OG DragonBall.
Fun fact: Android 19 is voiced by a TTS program, the same voice is used for the Warhammer 40k fanseries: What if The Emperor Had Text to Speech(which is also quite a funny series)

The reason Goku thinks Trunks is a girl's name is because he thinks he's already met "a nice young lady" named Trunks (as he said when Future Trunks was leaving in the previous episode)
"These seem like the most underwhelming villains" - the manga editor agreed, that's why this saga goes through three sets of villains and the final one transforms. The editor kept being underwhelmed, and Toriyama kept changing the villain in response. This is why Trunks says there are 2 Androids, but there end up being 6 (if you count Cell).
You can blame Taka and Lani for all the Yamcha hate, Kaiser apparently didn't want to shit all over Yamcha this much but kept getting 2 to 1 vetoed out lol
Blame Toriyama. TFS may exaggerate Yamchas treatment, but it was always there. He was the punching bag, even back in the 21st tournament and it never stopped.

Yes, Goku is having a heart attack. It is explained better in the original that the medicine Trunks gives him is not preventative. He has to take it when he starts experiencing symptoms that for reasons I can't remember start later this time since Goku was already dead by the time the androids show up in the future time line.

@protalghulnist4126 Yes, that's what I'm saying. He had to take it when he started feeling sick, not before, which was why he couldn't just take it right away and forget about it. Its been a long time since I saw the original but I'm fairly sure trunks says Goku was already dead by the time the android show up in his time line. So the timing of events is a little different.

In defense of Yamcha. He’s not a coward. He can be a little bit of a bitch, but he is one of the strongest human beings on the planet. He can fly, is super fast and strong and can shoot laser beams from his hands. This episode is a prime example. Yamcha may bitch, but he doesn’t run away, but actually runs towards the screaming even though he knows he might get bodied. Krillen and Yamcha are among the bravest fighters on the roster because despite being the weakest of their group, they always try to help out in anyway they can.

Adding to the list of reasons that Bulma truly belongs to the streets for getting with Vegeta that you won't see until History of Trunks, after the Namek wish was made to bring everyone but Goku and Frieza to Earth, Vegeta goaded Gohan into a fight by mocking Goku's supposed sacrifice as Vegeta was now the most powerful being in the universe if both Goku and Frieza offed each other going as far to suggest that he should kill Gohan to keep him from being a prooblem in the future, or to do what Frieza did to Vegeta and make the kid his lackey. Gohan got angry and Piccolo let him go at Vegeta for disrespecting his father and while Gohan had the upper hand for like a second Vegeta then relentlessly pummeled Gohan right in front of Bulma, the child of one of her best friends... then she bears this man's child... and people say Goku is fucked up.

IIRC the original VA for Yamcha in DBZA pissed them off and bailed so they turned him into even more of a joke.

It's not so much that they hate Yamcha (they actually really like him) but the thing is the actual DBZ story treats him like crap, he was Goku's first rival and by the end of dragon ball he was Bulma's boyfriend, was like the 4th strongest character and had some pretty good moments in general, z starts and he gets dumped by Bulma for cheating on her, which if you watch db that's unbelievable, gets insta killed by a saibaman, insta killed by the android and generally drifts apart from his friends more and more to concentrate on his baseball career because fighting is not really an option
it's fully believable, they broke up and got back together like 7 times over the course of Dragon Ball and she was gonna dump him for good and go after Goku after the 23rd WMT, but he proposed to Chi-chi after their match, so she settled for going back to Yamcha.

People shit on Yamcha cause of how his character fell from the the first Dragonball series when Goku was a kid. Yamcha back then a pretty neat character. Desert bandit who became a main line up fighter. Then when DBZ was made his character became an after thought and was written in a way that was pretty disappointing for OG fans. DBZA just decided to give him a 2nd life as a joke character. TFS just used what they had.

It sucks how much Yamcha gets shat on, buy it was Toriyama that started that trend. TFS just added a few jokes to make fun of his status as the show's butt monkey. But I can safely guarantee ya that Tien wouldn't last thirty seconds if he got penetrated like that, either.😉
Also, Vegeta has two states of existence. Either he is *absolutely* dominating a fight, or he is *absolutely* being dominated. There's not a lot of variables for that equation, unless he's fighting Goku.
Senzu Beans have been a thing for a while. Been a bit since the last video for you, so a refresher: Senzu Beans, described in Abridged as "the magical beans that heal all wounds and restore your stamina". In the Dragon Ball universe, Senzu Beans (translation: Hermit Beans) are grown by Korin, a magical cat hermit that lives atop The aptly named Korin Tower, located directly below the equally well named Kami's Lookout. They take a long time to grow, and Korin can only grow them in small amounts. They provide a large amount of nutrition, which is probably used in healing one's body and restoring their stamina and ki.
Senzu Beans can heal even life threatening wounds, like impalement (in Yamcha's case) or a broken neck (Gohan on Namek after Recoome kicked him in the head). So long as you're not actually dead, a Senzu can bring you back from the brink.
What Senzu Beans *can't* do is cure illnesses or damage to the body that has already fully healed naturally. Example: Yamcha has scars on his face, and after eating a Senzu Bean, the scars remain. He healed from the cause of the scars naturally, so the beans wouldn't affect them. If Yamcha ate one when they were still fresh, the cuts would have healed over as if they were never made.
Also, a joke I felt got glossed over: Vegeta kicked Android 19 in the gut *so hard* he distended his back in the shape of a foot. Vegeta then says "looks like I'm a size *19."* He's referencing the designation of his opponent. It seems like it goes over reactor's heads. And thanks to Vegeta trashing 19, Cyborg 20 (the old man) realized he wasn't winning a fight against Vegeta and noped *right* the f✓©k outta there!
Finally it's about to get super good🎉
Toriyama himself hate yamcha, he was part of the show at the start but then after saiyan saga he needed someone for let it die drammatically at the android's first appearence and this is the only reason he resurrected him at the end of frieza's saga,after this moment you saw where he get hand stab he will literally disappear from any type of "action" scene in the real series becouse even drawing him in the manga was a waste of time and a waste of ink 😂 i mean this is kinda of a little innocent spoiler but he's never been relevant from the start of dbz and after all is yamcha so he spoiler himself from how much we are use to see him die, no one ever expect something from him outside get killed so bad
Yamcha gets dogged on hard in the abridged series, but it's really not his fault, he is like the other human fighters, reduced to irrelevance by the Saiyans. It takes a lot of asspull to bring them back. Yamcha used to be one of the best and beat Goku once, he is very strong all things considered. Yamcha is a pretty sympathetic character coming to terms with his now powerlessness and trying to live a normal life.

@@xavierlehew6746Yamch can kill a saibamen, who is as strong as raditz, handily. Raditz was way stronger than goku and piccolo at that point. Goku and vegeta at that point were way stronger than master Roshi at that point. Roshi in the first world martial arts tournament we saw blew up the moon. On power alone no one in naruto is anywhere near yamcha’s level.
