  • Join us as we recall the 2008 season in college football. This season was dominated by three Big 12 teams who jockeyed for position atop the conference and national standings. Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech each had great shots at the title this year and their players were some of the most exciting college football athletes in recent memory.

You sort of mentioned it, but the craziest part of that season wasn't just the fact that TT, UT, and OU were all Top 5 at one point, but fellow division rival OK State was #8 before TT bulldozed them. Imagine having 40% of the top 10 in a single divison. The Big XII South was a gauntlet that's rarely been seen since back then.

Yeah, it’s too bad that college football has shifted so much, there used to be a lot more parity between conferences.

Like others said, this was a crazy season since you had four teams in one division in the top 10 as well as three of the top four Heisman finalists. The Big 12 South was wild. One thing of note, Mike Leach took Texas down in 2002 before he did so in 2008.

1)Not to belittle in any way the talent of Oklahoma's team, but Stoops definitely held an advantage, not only knowing Leach's offense by heart, but also his psychology. He knew what Leach would likely do in any given scenario and took obvious advantage of it. Thus, Tech's offense was not given the chance to make up for the deficiencies in it's defense. Not to say Tech would have beaten an Oklahoma Team playing it's best football, but the game would have at least been more entertaining if that had not been the case.
    2) How quickly the Pac 12 fell, since the possibility wasn't even concidered in this video.

Some criticism for the beginning of the video: You use arbitrary date ranges to talk about conference parity. For the Pac 12 you start at 2016, while in the SEC you start at 2014. Then for the Big 10 you start at 2017, making the claim that OSU and Michigan have a duopoly on the conference, however if you used consistent date ranges, you'd find that Michigan State also had 2 conference titles, Penn State had 1, and OSU had an additional 1. It gets even worse when you talk about the Big 12, because you use the fact that KSU, Baylor and Oklahoma have won 1 each of the last 3 to make a point about the Big 12 having uniquely high parity, when again if you used consistent date ranges you'd find that Oklahoma had won the previous 6 conference titles in a row! I know this is a small and growing channel, and that you've put out better work since this video came out, but I think should strive for a higher degree of accuracy and integrity, instead of trying to paint a convenient narrative for your video. Anyways I just wanted to comment on that, overall I think your content is great and I only point this out because I want you to get better. 2008 is also my favorite CFB season, guns up!

Good video but some of your info is inaccurate. There isn't parody in the current NCAA landscape nor has there been. Additionally, ttu beat UT in 08 but got curb stomped by OU.

I wouldn’t say there was full parity in that era, but there was a lot more unpredictability when it came to who was contending in each conference. I covered both those Texas Tech games in the video.

Its a consolation that Tech beat OU 3 straight times in Lubbock. 05-07-09
