Onboard Story: My Best Ever Blancpain GT Qualifying

  • Despite achieving pole positions and top 10's in other GT racing series, I have never quite cracked it in Blancpain. It's by far the most competitive GT3 Championship in Europe (and possibly the world) and is incredibly difficult to get close to the top guys in Qualifying.
    But along with my team I finally managed to crack it at the Nurburgring in Qualifying 2 for the Blancpain GT World Challenge. Here's my Onboard Story.
    Race results ( / gtworld )
    Race 1: WIN!
    Race 2: Taken out, Gran Turismo Sport style, at Turn one 😂

      It's similar because the chicane before the last turn isn't the same as the gt one, in the real life version, as we have seen you can go 55 km/h faster than gt and there the real life grip gap to gt is filled there

    • @DavidPerel
      @DavidPerel  5 років тому +5

      Because we don’t connect the sensor to the onboard videos. Usually throttle is also not connected. The brakes always sound like that but it’s sometimes not so clear on onboard videos. This is something sims don’t get right (the sound of braking).

    @小鴨子-i1n 5 років тому +1

    Hi David! I have two questions: 1. T1 looks like a very wide line from your lap, why is this line faster? and 2. T11 and T12 combo, it looks like you are using all of the track after T11 exit but not all of the entry width on T12. Given the long straight after T12, why do you not choose to compromise T11 to maximize speed through T12?

    • @DavidPerel
      @DavidPerel  5 років тому +1

      In T1 you have to send it as fast as possible into the apex because the run to T2 is so short. So rather maximize the entry phase, even if it means running a bit wide on exit.
      T11 you can gain more by carrying speed into the corner and for T12 the corner is so long that your entry line is not as important as where you are at the apex when you get onto the power. You cannot ‘square off’ T12, the apex is too long. So to sacrifice T11 to square off T12 is slower.

    I've always found tricky (if not impossible) for me to find the correct line to approach turn 3. (talking Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizione, which I assume is similar to reality) That section feels like driving on ice. Now why do you immediately aim to the apex while still braking instead of taking a more round and "conventional" entry line? Do you find more grip there by not going wide?

    • @DavidPerel
      @DavidPerel  5 років тому

      Tighter line is faster in that corner because of the gradient of the track etc. If you try take a wide entry you will lose the rear end and waste time trying to settle it before being able to turn in.
