- Making sure the boot is fitted correctly will most likely assist in preventing crap get into the slide bolt silicon grease causing the slide bolt to bind and or seize.
I recently changed the pads on my cruiser and the rear drivers aside caliper was a little more difficult re-fitting than it ought have been. I removed one of the caliber sliding bolts, after much effort, and it was caked in cooked dirty crap, not nice silicon grease.
I cleaned it up and fitted the caliber back on, the same way it came off. I checked the passenger side and a similar thing was occurring.
I had some restless nights thinking about the ingress of the dirt into the slide mechanism. I was not happy that the boots were fitted properly, that was the only way dirt and crap was fouling the silicon grease.
So, off the calibers came. Of the 4 boots, this time, one was not fitted (seated) properly. The passenger side was all good. I can sleep a bit better now :)
