the thing which gets me is the line "more than you know". Its not just a "oh i miss you more than you could know" but more than *YOU* know. the You isn't to Penelope its to the siren. its SO GOOD
Sadly no hair tuck but they were still so adorable! My favorite part was when Gigi used the Greek pottery style when Ody started talking about Poseidon. This is one of my favorites of her animatics, along with her monster and Other ways. Also you should react to Ouchen's Different Beast next!
Also i feel like the sounds at the beginning sound like the sirens "toning" to try and find the right pitch and tone for the perfect match of penelope's voice
4:20 FUN FACT the style it changes to when Odysseus basically asks the sirens for directions is how Ancient Greek Kraters (Vases) would look! It’s the same reason they use that style in some parts of Disney’s Hercules
Ody trying to buy his soldiers time: “Soooo, is our daughter still taking clarinet classes?” Also, I’m gonna blow your mind with subtle foreshadowing in the lyrics. When Ody said “More than you know” it has a double meaning, like “I miss my real wife more than you know.” Plus, “The things I do for you” can also mean “I do some many brutal things just to see my real wife again”. Hence, slaughtering the sirens.
WolfytheWitch released a WIP on a Scylla animatic so I'd say to look out for that one! Other than that, I've loved all your reactions so far and was honestly surprised that there were no other videos outside of EPIC since your style was very fun and seemed natural! On the same wavelength as EPIC (mythology) it'd be great to see you do a Hadestown reaction :)
She kind of does need odysseos as he is the king of ithaca and every year he is away she is at risk of being forced to remarry and discover that her son had an "accident" that just so happen to take Oddys bloodline from power so that the progeny of her new husband would have an eassier succesion.
Yea I kinda just said it off handedly as I’m aware there’s a suitors song coming up (I know a little context surrounding the situation). I’m really excited for their reunion!
If you ever want to get a Bit more of a handle on musical language, I first started really learning it from a channel called "Sideways" and its analysis of live action Disney movies compared to their animated counterparts (and all the problems there)
For Thunder Bringer I highly recommend Neil Illustrator, they definitely captured Zues well. Also can I just say this Saga all the songs were bangers, none of them beat out my number one favorite song but still were amazing.
1:25 You saying this gave me a flashback to my school during a musical also on Odysseus and his journey. In the last couple minutes the performance they stopped the whole thing and basically said: “We don’t know where to take this, so you guys decide. Does she take him back - and give back the throne, or do Penelope say ‘screw you’ and keep the throne?” …Imagine an like… 80 something people, all but ONE agreeing that she should keep slaying and keep the throne. It was quite entertaining.
“Penelope, you don’t need Odysseus… I’m free!” 🤔 … okay, fun fact time. Penelope is more of a badass by the sheer fact she was a princess born of the Spartan king Icarius (not the wax wing kid Icarus, that’s a m different person). Spartan women enjoyed more power and control than their contemporaries in other city states in the ancient Hellenic times. Even if she’s usually played for “typical wife” material for the story, the sheer fact she was a Spartan first will make her a pillar of female independence in my opinion. She was raised the Spartan woman badass way, and she’s going to leverage her position of queen even if she is of a country not of Ithaca. You don’t need to tell her she doesn’t need Odysseus, she already was raised to expect a husband to be dead and gone to a point and to move on. In fact it could be more inferred to be something expected of her to a point. Needs aren’t the issue, its a matter of WANT. I know you played it for a joke btw, but I just wanted to share this nugget of fact and some of my opinion stemming from it since that was a good excuse to do so. Great content by the way, love that you’re enjoying this gem of a musical like the rest of us.
The splashing him with him water and the annoyed look he gets for a split second is gold
I mean, guessing it’s saltwater I wouldn’t be pleased to get a mouthful of that either 💀

Gigi's suffering is so fun, but I need to drum how good Ximena Natzel's animation for it is too, such a blushing Odysseus and best daughter 😂
The daughter is spot on 🐬

The Sirenelope motif is the penelope motif but kinda distorted, with vocals slightly different, its so cool
