I just recently have had this feeling of something being caught in my throat feeling like I’m not able to swallow properly and also I having chest pain and back pain and sometimes lightheadedness. Should I go see a doctor?
What is it called when your muscles simply don’t respond when you are chewing and subconsciously go to swallow. When I eat and push my food back to swallow the muscles just don’t react and I choke and usually throw my head forward to try to launch food/liquids back out….its quite scary and progressively getting worse. I also have dysphasia where food gets stuck once “swallowed” and will sometimes come back up into my mouth.
I have been battling this for almost six months now. I have had manometry test (which was horrible to go through), and upper endoscopy, and Barium swallow test. They have all come back normal. Doctors don’t know what is causing symptoms. This is horrible.
@@karisagoyette911 not yet. I still have discomfort but nowhere near as bad as before. Some days are worse than others though. I suspect it has something to do with my digestion system. Some kind of reflux.
@@Astaghfirullah-10 when it first started it was both. As time went by I started doing the research myself and learned that the issues was being caused by reflux of some sort. Not exactly acid reflux but possibly bile reflux as I do not have a gallbladder. Over time it has gotten a lot better. Not sure the order to write this up (dyslexic) but is it possible this is also sometimes related to muscle issues from asperger's? A few years ago I started trying a bunch of things in my diet and noticed a massive difference in my life from magnesium (which I also choke on lol). I've had nightly muscle cramps since I was a kid and they got horrible in the last few years - days of pain after single spasms. In addition swallowing water and pills/capsules got very bad. Added magnesium at night/morning and they're gone. Within a yr of learning that I discovered I have a very high amount of traits that asperger's people have (process of getting evaluated, neurologist approved). I also saw many asperger's people (they like to be called seem to like to be called aspie's and not "ASD" which is the new technical dsm-5 term) have very bad muscle tightness and other issues (constipation) that seem to improve with magnesium and a few other supplements. Related to the rest of your channel, I have my own theory about myself/aspies that many or all of us don't absorb nutrients and it either gives us many of our symptoms (sensory, muscular, anxiety) or increases them.
Found your channel because I sometimes have sensation of stuck food in throat and it is very uncomfortable, what kind of doctor would you suggest, I’ve told my regular doctor for years and nothing.

Hello there, was wondering if I can pick your brains and tell me what might be going on with me., the Doctors are clueless. here in Sweden. I'm 57 by the way pretty healthy ,take blood pressure meds thats about it. I have had upper back pain now and again for at least 4 years. Just to the right of the spine.Bottom of shoulder blade area. I have had an endoscopy 8 months ago, They said dyspepsia and Gerd ? and 1 cm hiatus hernia. No symptoms of acid reflux coming up the pipe or heartburn, that I have felt anyway. When I get this pain, it can last 10 minutes or 3 hours , not very bad and can come in waves, I can move positions in bed to make it less. Also and this is the bit , I can not find anything online really, Where I have the pain my upper back area, sometimes not always, I can eat something later or drink some liquid and I can feel ,that food and drink touching the spot where l have the pain.It just seems so weird to swallow some food and I could feel it in my back, One would think an ulcer but that normally is in the stomach area. But I had the endoscopy and no ulcer was found. Also had a camera up my butt 3 years ago, all was as it should be. I have complained about this to 3 doctors and they have not got a clue. Additional info, The pain can start around the Stomach area in the front or just to the right side under the ribs, And then radiate to the back area . Also I can get an achey feeling going up my spine and into my mouth, sometimes before it starts.where I get the pain.So I thought ,ok, symptoms here point to the gallbladder. Had 2 scans all clear and found nothing. I dont have any swallowing problems as such. Poo can be normal or very soft, sometimes fishey mucus like sometimes. Suspect must have also IBS perhaps. Thanks hope you will reply.
Thank u for all the info!!!! So far I seen a gi my doctor and now waiting for speech therapist because the scope down nose and stomach are normal and scans been normal also barium study shows muscles pulling so they wanted to see what speech therapist had to say about that I’m thinking it has to be a muscle thing or brain thing ! My question is do you know of anyone else I can see in the Bay Area to see more detail or maybe if surgery is needed ? Cause things little things seem to get stuck and can’t swallow food at all! Please help me out I’m already down 35 pounds and am getting worries! Thank you very much ! Next they said gi was was gonna do muscle study

What if it is based on bile acid instead of acid and it is due to the slow transit c that comes with the Territory of light leaky gut and inflammation. I've done these tests countless times and always they run for the pepcid which i denounced because BILE IS ALKALINE and it caused gastritisfor me more than once. it is relatively to stool. Bile etc. There is no being against this. As in going toilet for a post col as of 3 years itll be now patient, relieved the esophagitis's whoofing and gerd like conditions ( not gerd entirely if mint actually works. That would work for bile, not acid. And bone broth ( inflammation and transit.) I've even been coined with hashimoto's ( borderline hypothyroidism, very common after gallbladder removal) and pcos ( hormones and homeostasis in gut and thyroid connected as well) as well as that current leaky gut from prior infection no sibo thank goodness - and honey ( builds up mucus ) always seems to cap the flares if they come at night only. Also high fructan, so honey can rebound in an ugly way if consumed in excess for bad flare week. Water retention. Ibs and gastritis. Heat indirectly triggers flares and cold supresses them. Thanking thyroid and trauma from post surgical issues when cooking. Had hyperthyroidism then so it was hot all.the time and i couldn't gain weight. Gastritis was lethal back then. The transit slows in evening and I'm constantly going through slow transit chronic flares evety pther week until i take bone broth or a lax goer that won'tupset my gut. The hypersensitive gut and thyroid used to be more hyper till bile sequestrant was introduced. May be why i have hypo in the cards almost now, it changes the state of hormones which is why with the bam i tried to have it only 1 /4 tsp amd remain that way. Been limiting too much intake of options sadly again. The transit in winter they said can be worse ( not the cold it helps) or causes ibs c in some cases to be worse off. Only take the cholestyramine once everyday in morning to prevent overflow when i wake up. Thing is, every two hours i have to eat a nibble to supress bile and the foods that work are non dairy milk, sweet potato plain, rice on occasion but only white jasmine it prefers, coconut water if it's not severe, and mylanta only a 1/4 teaspoon. So bland and soft is qhat i get. Even so, my electrolytes are always in a bind and out of my hands if i don't balance protein to carb every single time. Pcos. So far everyone said my levels look good, but the rest is the restriction of my diet. Rice for the gastritis or ibs isn't safe for esophagitis and so on. I may try cream of rice one day. Even fiji water helps but if it is ph related then...it makes it worse. Higher alkalinewaters gave me ibs d or nausea so i only do 7.7. No higher than this. Gut has a memory apparently. So far had a flare Tonight and finally fixed the problem. What is this but a chronic heck - mare!? Any words of wisdom? My doctors and holistic nutritionist are back to ph, colon being too full or my favorite, gut imbalances. And when I'm on empty i still feel that feeling of being even more off balance since enzymes i take don't work well enough. Had to be careful since zenpep causes my gastritis while i heal. Looking into liquid form or chewable without lactase or bean/legume or broccholi. Hypercalcemia and no longer eat dairy, wheat or legumes. Which makes sense. Post cholesectomy no gallbladder caused this so the flow can only be capped through what i will ask - braun diversion surgery I've heard which limits gastritis impact for most compared to other diversion methods. I had my appendix out due to post operative illeus that was missed by doctors until in the ER they fixed me. After that, i stayed away from gf Graham crackers. Though if i had not sped that up, the illeus from gallbladder surgery would have remained unfound. Could not flatulate for a year. That's missed.... even i knew what was wrong. I refuse to lose my voice but is slippery elm or marshmallow root a thought? Should thyroid or insulin resistance be monitored during this process? Licorice is actually a trigger to the neck pinch in flares. ( hashimoto's thyroiditis) A slight bit sends it to the ice pack shelf. Have a ton just in case of gastritis too. Thanks and sorry for the length of this...It is...always a barrel of monkeys in my tummy as I've described. Bland diet is very, very repetitive. Hope to heal up and find out how to quell gastritis flares and triggers this winter. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

@@luciamurray1838 my doctor prescribed me something called sulcrafate. Apparently the reason I have trouble swallowing is because I have GERD. But there's a difference now since I've been taking it. What's it called when you throat closes when you eat? When I swallow food if it touches my throat wrong my entire throat closes off completely and I can't breathe. I can't get any air in at all. This has happened to me maybe 10 or 15 times over the last 20 years. I have to drink something to get my throat to crack open and it stays swollen and slightly restricted for a while before going back to normal.
Dr. Sameer, my mother has advanced carotid artery stenosis (left internal carotid). In addition to her dysphagia, she has been experiencing cognitive decline. I worry about vascular dementia as the result of an ischemic stroke. If that is the case, do you think the stroke (or hypoperfusion) could be the cause of her dysphagia? Thanks in advance for any insights you are able to provide.

I have 2 strictures, 1 diverticulum and 3 inches of non functioning oesophagus at the GI junction ..... Nothing has been done surgically in 5 years, and I had a Fundoplication performed in 2012.
I've been suffering from strictures for a long time now, and im on my 4th or 5th dilation, get your Reflux undercontrol, its not good
I just recently have had this feeling of something being caught in my throat feeling like I’m not able to swallow properly and also I having chest pain and back pain and sometimes lightheadedness.
Thank you for sharing. I m going thru this.
I have been battling this for almost six months now. I have had manometry test (which was horrible to go through), and upper endoscopy, and Barium swallow test. They have all come back normal. Doctors don’t know what is causing symptoms. This is horrible.
Did you get to the bottom of it yet?
@@karisagoyette911 not yet. I still have discomfort but nowhere near as bad as before. Some days are worse than others though. I suspect it has something to do with my digestion system. Some kind of reflux.
Going through it right now had all the rest even had vocal cords surgery so I don’t n know what to do.
Do you have problems swallowing or just sensation of food stuck
@@Astaghfirullah-10 when it first started it was both. As time went by I started doing the research myself and learned that the issues was being caused by reflux of some sort. Not exactly acid reflux but possibly bile reflux as I do not have a gallbladder. Over time it has gotten a lot better. I no longer have the sensation of not being able to swallow or food that is stuck. Now it’s more of an occasional sore throat when I over do it on certain foods. There is hope! Thank God!
I have a pain in the right side of my throat when swallowing, Food does not get stuck or feel like it gets stuck but I just have a slight pain when I swallow and only on the right side of the neck. So I don't think this is Dysphagia?
Thanks for the great video, which city are you located in?
I had either a layrngospasm or i also have lingual tonsil hypertrophy. I almost died my last surgery 3 years ago.. ijust today found out I have narrowing of esophagus and may need surgery im scared beyond words... what are the chances of this happening again 😭😭😭
Unfortunately, no one knows that answer. I would recommend you speak to your doctor about this.
@@SameerIslamMD doc said not likely bc it's a camera going in esophagus not trachea
I was ok until After i had a biopsy done, then found i'm incurable cancer that had gone from my lung up to my neck and in my bone now. I've had this issue since, struggling to eat and drink now🥺🥺
I have a hiatal hernia but the doctors said it so small I don’t need surgery could that be a cause of and issue
I felt like I accidentally swallowed something one night and since then I felt something in there, went to er said there's nothing there and it's dysphagia. They gave me omeprazolx2 a day but the now the food goes up my nose, I'm so scared
I’ve been going through this for about over a year now. I hate eating an the food gets stuck and I eventually throw up. If I drink to fast I feel the same way. This is not fun at all.
I have a problem of swallowing last one year… I am a lateral middulary syndrome patient…I will take the all the foods by PEG tube only… and I regularly do swallowing exercises like shaker and etc… and done BOTEX also in my throat… is any possibility to eat foods by mouth.
Been having trouble with gastritis & ibs. Was looking to see what meals are ok & came across this.. everything you said I have. Making an appointment asap. Thank you

Hi. Have you had any improvements since you left this comment? I’m going through the same thing. I’ve been dealing with not being able to swallow food/solids at all. Only liquids. I’ve had all sorts of testings done and everything comes back as normal. This is driving me crazy.
I have Spina Bifida which causes my Dysphagia I was diagnonsed about 5 or 6 years ago. Spinal Cord injuries are another cause. In my case that what it is.
Oh really,I have had spine surgery L4 L5 replaced and every since surgery I've started having this problem
I've been choking and spitting up every time I take a drink for about 6 hours now. Tool a big bite of roast and had a problem since. Even spitting up water. Can I wait this out?
Did it go away?
@@parapoliticos52 nope. Couldn't even take a sip of water. Went to ER. They knocked me out and scoped it. Oddly they said I was the 3rd person from my city there that night who had pot roast stuck in there throat.
@@joshuatabor8755 So it was just a big bite. An ordeal am sure, but nothing more serious like a narrowed esophagus or a scared tissue or worse. A happy ending for you .
Hi I am not having issue with swallowing food or water but I am having issue to swallow my own saliva some how doesn’t feel right sooner I swallow some times it hurts a bit and being smoker I guess is more alarming and I went to doctor ent she says she don’t see nothing wrong in there don’t know what should I do ? Please help if some one can !!
Did you get over it?
I’ve had two endoscopys for this. The first time they dilated me and said I had distal rings and gastritis. I am having a harder time swallowing now after the dilation. I had the second endoscopy and now they’re saying it looks perfect. The liquid barium swallow was “perfect” while Im sitting here with a piece of boiled carrot that’s much smaller than my pinky nail stuck in my throat.
Do u have a hiatal hernia. Or weak LES..Im having surgery next month..Thank God.Check for that
@@Jredpluto1 I didn’t have a hernia, but I’m thinking possibly the weak LES. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Hello, I just tried the manometry test it was unsuccessful I'm scheduled for another test with sedation. I have gotten sick from swallowing. I haven't seen no videos regarding my situation
I hope you found what is going on in your situation.
I swallow food and it hooked in my throat, I took water and soft drink but still won’t go so what do you think I do about it ?
Does having a high hyoid bone play a part in swallowing difficulties? What would cause a hyoid bone to be higher than normal? Do I see a neurologist about the hyoid bone issue?
I’ve had problems swallowing going on 5 years now. Only certain foods which are dry like chicken, beef and bread-like foods. Liquids go down fine.
Same here! Things like tuna are really difficult for me. Last year I almost choked cause I had no water nearby to wash it down. I have to have a drink with every meal otherwise I could literally die. No idea what it is tho
@@luciamurray1838 my doctor prescribed me something called sulcrafate. Apparently the reason I have trouble swallowing is because I have GERD. But there's a difference now since I've been taking it. I can eat some things without having a drink. I have to go get an endoscopy done in June to get this checked out.
Same here, I try to eat very slowly and add lots of liquids.
Since I have insurance now I went and seen a specialist. I go in June to get my esophagus stretched and to get a biopsy of my esophagus. So hopefully nothing but good news. Ready to eat normally again.
@@David-eu1ms if you have insurance go see a gastroenterologist. Hopefully the worst case is getting your esophagus stretched and be done with it.
Dysphagia is what happens whenever you have difficulty with food getting stuck.
I have cricopharyngeal bar/muscle dysfunction. I didn't hear about that here.

How come my Gasto didn't do my dilation? He did find alittle food in my stomach. I've had 3 Dialations already in the past. I'm still having trouble. If gets worse should I make a appt?
I have had 3 dilation procedures. They are only temporary. I just had lunch but couldn't finish because some food got stuck. It's been 45 minutes and the blockage is not completely gone. I've been drinking water and violently throwing up. Either the sip of water pushes thru the blockage or I spew!
I'm sick of this fcking bullsht! It happens on dates, always Thanksgiving, I've almost been fired several times as I disappear to puke, and puke some more. 1 hr sometimes until the boss caught me puking. He thought I was drinking. I'd rather have Lobidas of the testicles. Or Leaprosy!!
