I work 16 hours a week 6 to 7 days a week. I own a construction company and I have to do bookkeeping, drafting, manual labor or marketing plus many more things. There is a lot of the work that I don't enjoy but the sense of purpose and the great meaning that it gives to my life keeps me going. I do which I had more time to be alone but I can always take mini vacations anytime I feel tired. Understanding why you work and seeing the big picture is key to being able to work long hours.
Yes that’s correct but I disagree in that the point is to not to be but to be! Pseudoscience is my major as I assume you are understanding as you are awestruck with my intellect. In layman’s terms I’m the most stable genius ever.
@@kkbroph663 whoa. Without dirt farmers, humanity would cease to exist. 😏😏 you wouldnt be trying to say you are better and have a more important existence than your fellow human...would you? 🤔🤔
"Traffic jams" and "Boredom" aren't terrible costs, they're gifts. They indicate that you have cars to drive. They indicate that you have so much free time on your hand that you can actually sit around and do nothing.
This is an exemplary story of the Faustian Bargain. People sacrificed their freedom and choice of work for money (and boredom). faustian bargain states that what the people sacrificed-their time and intellectual curiosity- was far more valuable than the worldly benefits they received.
Sure! Back in my village every peasant was a poet, philosopher, artist, carpenter, welder, electrician, programmer and book binder. That's because our education was so holistic! As recent as 70 years ago people couldn't afford to buy shoes for their children but factory jobs! - that's what fucked all our lives up. If schools are the problem, then these nasty products of our schools should really shut up.
Being bored is definitely my boss' fault. I have never, ever, been bored outside work and I don't believe that is even possible. If only I could leap into the loving arms of Communism! Look into the black pit of its eyes... breath the coldness of its breath on my face! Oh, the joy of its embrace! To be freed from the shackles of owning property and be like a child again! I could gladly endure the camps... those gardens of fraternity.
While it's true that transportation is good, the video's point was that we've been unable to handle our "gifts" as well as we could be because of how we achieved them.
This video is sort of misleading, instead of explaining what a Faustian Bargain is, it is instead implying that the scenario presented in the video is a Faustian Bargain. You'd have to know what a Faustian Bargain is in the first place to fully understand this video.
The guy reminds me of Mao Tse Tung. The alternative to meaningless jobs isn’t undoing the industrial revolution or making industries a property of the State. It is proactive seeking to make work more meaningful by living repetition to be the job of machines. Not to mention there is the service sector of economy. It’s been a long time the economy isn’t like that anymore.
Well I was looking for a statue that is man on one side and woman on the other that seems to be in more than one place ... but yes a deal with the devil that Faust made is what I thought was gonna be here.. but on board with your thought there..
When one finds an absence of meaning, their is a simple solution. Instead of looking to Gaia or Eden (Nature or God) and asking why. Become why, exist merely to exist and create your meaning along the steps you take
There are some truths but it misleads the viewer. The greatest advancements we have made are due to specialized folks working with other specialized folks on a grander project. This video ignores that important result. An artist works with computer scientist to create a company = amazing revolutions. Being a generalist is fine, but there are major limitations there as well and it is why we have made more progress in the last 100 years than every before in history.
So no deal with the devil? This was like watching a show or movie where you dont know it's going to end with to be continued. You get right to the last few seconds then it hits you.
The deal with the devil is analogous to the small town farmers agreeing to give up freedom for money. They have a bunch of money but lack the feeling of purpose and contentment if their job is like...packaging tractor parts. Which I have worked in a few factories and this is indeed the case. Most people feel stuck, dream and talk of doing something bigger, but when opportunities present themselves they are too afraid to jump. But the whole quarantine time seems to be changing that some. I hope so. It is fulfilling to put your all into achieving your dreams based around some passion.
Of course it depends on the job you have. If it's something repetitive you wouldn't want to do it non-stop. But if for example you are a musician you won't be playing the guitar 16 hours a day but you might do it longer than someone who HAS to do something that they don't enjoy. And when you're lying on the beach of late at night on your bed because you didn't waste time in traffic jams or unproductivity/boredom you will be thinking about some new lyrics for a new song.
And you'll also be insanely lucky for having such a job and not having to work an awful job just so you don't land on the street without a dollar to your name.
They were staving on the farms, you don't know what you are talking on about. Yes, they had little freedom, but they had more than on the farms where they wouldn't get a wage, they just get resources given to them by the landlord. The landlord had more power over them than the employer.
Um, just tell the truth and say that the real difference is European concept and connection with life was and still is fragmented compared to heavily melanated indiginous people connection to all life.
No, I won't. I need to be with my family and I need time for myself. Working 16 hours on anything is not fun, even when it's enjoyable. Think about your favorite game. Could you seriously play that game for 16 hours straight every day? That's what it feels like.
True, capitalism sucks. We're not really wealthy, it's those on top that are. Once we move past capitalism to something that goes back to more wholistic but also technological we will be better than would could ever imagine
