    I’m a new subscriber, for less than a month. I consume a lot of Dannys videos. Someone have me three dried out orchids that she couldn’t take care of due to a newborn baby. I have never had any orchids before and now I educate myself with UA-cam videos. I’m becoming slightly obsessed... 🙂🙂🙂 /Lisbeth from Sweden 🇸🇪

    Dear Danny, besides from your always informativ videos and tutorials in general, I have totally started to actually wait for your "translations" of the turtle doves comments. They are such wonderful and sometimes hilarious addition to your videos, absolutely adorable. And since it's only a flash of some letters in the corner somewhere, I'm totally sure no one could ever be offended or annoyed by these pop-up "translations". Your pigeons in the grow space are such a wonderful combination, no matter the circumstances of how they got there. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have a little morning dove my standard poodle brought me while out on my walk. It was a tiny baby and I didn’t know what it was. Why she dropped it at my feet I have no idea. I feed it and at every stage I would think how in the world am I going to teach it to eat seed, how am I going to let it go when it is time. At every stage the little dove just learned what to do. My husband and I let it go in our back yard with many tears. The little dove comes everyday to eat twice a day. We love him or her (we don’t know) so much. So I just love seeing your beautiful doves. 🥰 I love all your show. I count on them when I need help!!!! Which is often 😳

    Good video. We are professional growers and of course we re-pot daily. I for the life of me can't figure out why some growers pack their orchids in such tight sphagnum. I know most of the time it's for transportation purposes so the plant won't dry out, but most people won't repot when they buy the plant. We never sell plants packed in sphagnum. They are all potted in a medium size sanitized bark medium. We ship a lot of plants via air and have never had any problems.
    Great video. Best of luck.

    Hello Danny,
    I love watching your repotting videos. Always informative. I need to repot some phals as well. I have some that have roots growing through the ventilation holes. I am concerned that I might damage the roots when removing them from the old pots. How do you remove your phals from old pots that have this situation? Does moistening them beforehand do the trick, or do you cut the pots, or do something else?
    Thanks - and Happy Holidays!

    Repotted a struggling orchid from a nursery. And it also had that peat moss in the Centre. It like became like sponge around the area. The roots weren't bad but not a lot of roots there so not great. Eventually it would of killed off roots completely. Just the orchid was just handled roughly and at some stage fell out its pot.

    I don't have a lot of east-facing windows in my house and am keeping several in my little south-facing bathroom window. There's a screen and lace curtain to disperse the light a bit, but I'm wondering what kind of synthetic lighting I should use to compensate for the lack of bright conditions. VildHallon I received a large phal as as a gift three years ago. I couldn’t get it to rebloom. I tried everything you did except one thing. I too thought the light was great because of healthy root and leaf growth. One day I decided to move it. Not sure why. Within a month I had a flower spike. I couldn’t believe it. Not sure if the temperature is different or because of the lighting but it spiked. It’s even pushing out more roots. I didn’t change anything but location. I thought it was super happy where I had it before but now I know. Dani is correct environment and location is everything.

    Hi, Danny!! I’m a huge fan from Brazil! I even started a collection of Phalaenopsis and Cattleyas because of your videos and amazing orchids!! Recently I’ve been having trouble with my Phals, everytime I repot them, they lose all the roots :( I’ve tried to repot with all your tips and they keep dying after a couple of weeks. The funny part is that even Cattleyas that have more sensitive roots than Phals, end up very well after repotting. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong :(

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, I'm sure there is an explanation :) so what are the roots potted into originally and what is the medium you pot them in?

    • @joaovitoralmeida9279
      @joaovitoralmeida9279 4 роки тому

      MissOrchidGirl they usually come potted into bark or coconut husks... and I am using a mix with bark chips and Sphagum Moss, I think they are not liking it very much 😓

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому +1

      When you water make sure things are not very wet, maybe in their old medium things were not wet for long. Also ventilation holes are a must. Don't let the roots super dry either, the aim is to find the balance. That is just a guess, there might be quite a few other issues, starting from the quality of the products, to the state of the roots themselves, but let's start with what we can control easiest :)

    • @ninathesupercat925
      @ninathesupercat925 4 роки тому

      Hey, do you still have that ant-problem? If so, you should check your orchid on aphids. Ants often indicate aphids on a plant because they milk them (they are kinda like farmers). If you can't find any aphids just repot your orchid. Make sure to get rid of as much old medium as possible and to use high quality or at least medium quality new medium.

    Hello, I repotted my orchid about 2 months ago, then I thought something doesn't look right. I believe I have 2 roots system in the same plant. One is in the pot and there is another one about 20 cm above the first one. The upper roots seems they wanted to go through the window before, and I thought they were actually looking for light, which they have plenty , and after repoting the plant these roots now they seems like they are struggling to go in the same pot beeing oriented downwards to where the main roots are.And week after week it looks like they are getting closer. It's very confusing, the plant has flowers now. Is this normal? What should I do?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 роки тому

      Hi, the root system refers to the totality of roots on an orchid, it's perfectly normal for new roots to emerge upper on the stem as the orchid grows. As they grow the roots can take all sorts of directions, they don't necessarily head towards particular things. Rambling is quite normal, you don't necessarily need to do anything, unless you wouldn't want them to touch particular things (expensive furniture, walls, etc). They can sit outside of the pot, no worries :)
