Having moved to a new house, she spent her days pottering around in a “dera.” She had a strong desire to tell the caretaker that his was not the “real” Elishibah. She wanted to tell him and the world that the real version of the woman in a dera was a corporate titan who wore power suits, crafted strategy and influenced policy. Being let go from a job that she loved and was thriving in hit her hard. Her confidence was shattered, she questioned everything. She didn’t want to be the woman who asked for Salon money from her husband because after all she was highly educated, intelligent and independent. Watch this captivating story as she narrates how she handled the humiliation subsequently rose from the ashes.

Sometimes I feel am a failure but I look at my family and tell myself am doing good, nice one mama keep up the good work failure is part of life it helps us grow.
I needed to hear this... went through a similar experience recently and I have not been able to pick myself up ... bumped into this today and hope it will be the beginning for me to rise up again ..thanks fir sharing

Oh dear.
I went through this in 2018
You will be well my dear
Losing a job one goes through the whole process of grief
Elishiba, from our competitive high school days of Swahili public speaking, getting the support for education that you mentioned, to this moment where you've opened your beautiful soul, I admire you so much.
Dear Elishibah, You are a star!
Keep shining
I had already quit my job 1.5 years before i formally left. I had no motivation to do it anymore.
Ms Elishibah Msengeti, that very moment brought sadness in my life because it happened the worst way that I never expected. But you looked into my eyes and told me, all will be OK dear. But as I type this, am the most proud person about you😊
I don't why this happens to the most hard working & thriving employees. It happened to TerryAnn Chebet at Citizen Tv right when her career was at its peak. But it reminds you to push forward and grow yourself
When you started the story, I thought about my family being my priority over work. Thanks for being vulnerable Elishiba
I'd swear my heart beats a little faster whenever your name is mentioned...your mentorship has given one too many souls the strength to continue pushing on....am glad I met you all those years ago and if anything, you are a powerful, 100% positive person, so I know you can, you know you can and together we know we can
Thanks for sharing this story, Elishiba. I hear you about becoming presumptuous of success. And also on the need to find identity away from titles and perceptions. You've always been a great example, a beacon of light....and you continue to shine bright and show us that it's not always easy, but we are bigger than the challenges in front of us. Also, as someone who sends emails at night, point taken 😅😅😅. All the best!
I resigned from my job this year too just to have peace of mind.
The end of our comfort zones is the beginning of our expansion. It's wonderful to see you strong
This is a great message..career and titles is not everything..believing in uaself..n most of all trusting God...
Elishiba, you did not fail. Being laid off is not a failure. It can happen to anyone. But challenges are catapults. The bigger the challenge the higher it will propel you forward if you allow yourself to learn and overcome. All the best in your new season
Wow! This is so insipiring thank you for sharing your experience. As for me i stripped myself of those titles because i saw my health was going under due to too much stress. I feel okay starting my own venture. I am really hopeful.
How timely! Thank you for sharing, I will surely rise again and again.
I enjoyed listening to this powerful story once more! Having interrated with you while on your previous job; knowing how committed you were, you will accomplish all you desire to and needless to say your resilience to move on is admirable!
You need to see how excited I was on seeing this in my notifications.
This story has spoken volumes to me... as all your articles have in Medium.
Your stories are always candid and relatable.
Much Love ❤
Thank you for the Great talk. Thank you for reminding us that "Life is a never-ending journey/ school" and that we are stronger when we learn to leave and keep on when we are at our *weakest* most vulnerable point. We should never give up because like the phoenix we shall rise from the ashes again.
I needed to hear this today.. the only thing that was familiar to was my career, when I lost my job I did not know what to do with myself or who I was..but slowly by slowly am discovering me outside my career..
Titles don't define who or what we are; they testify of who people say we are! Very inspirational, all the best as you give the world the best of who Elishiba truly is.
Oh my oh my....you are something Elishiba.👏👏👏👏👏Very very inspiring ,encouraging and educative too.. Keep It Up lady. Thumbs up for you.👍👍. May the Good Lord bless bless you for sharing.🙏🙏
I am so grateful to hear this. I am going through this experience as well. Be blessed for sharing means a lot.
From experience,an employee should never replace family time with working hours because when the employer decides to let you go,they never remember the sacrifices you made.
Madam Elishiba,
True I engaged with you one on one, severally then in that lavish place of work. It is good to speak out your experience as a lesson to others and offer hope to the hopeless.
May the almighty God bless you and your family as well as the work of your hands.
Hey my dear so clear ,systematic, composed ,I have loved listening to you.Youbare strong , would love to hear more of you. Am proud of you, Wali's sis...all the best in your future endeavors...
Oh my goodness... 🤗 I can relate. Keep your chin up Elishibah! Endelea na huo mwendo 🤎

I have gone through that and it's almost a year now. It's a journey and I'm still working to heal. I have been so encouraged by your sharing.
Very well put. I loved most the párt of empathy and not letting titles define us.
Wow..say of picking up oneself..beautiful engagement with self.Inspirational.all the best.
Congratulations and regards to Dr. Hosea Poriot.
I remember you at Alytas, thank you for sharing.
Great lessons here.Major of them is that success not necessarily what we do,the jobs/titles we hold but who we are as individuals.Faith in God of course counts a great deal.
So impactful, Thank you so much.
Wow. Awesome stuff Shibs
Thank you for sharing you experience, I like the ending, the raising again and healing and knowing challeges are part of life.
Beautiful and very relatable. Failure is not the end.
This is a beautiful story. I am glad that you were able to pick yourself up so quickly... Most people are not able to do so.
Thank you Elisheba....I am really encouraged. You have no idea what am going through as I stumbled upon this clip on UA-cam. Asante sana
Thank you for inspiring me. You've just opened up my eyes to new ideas.
A woman living in purpose and always an inspiration
Elishibah you are an inspiration to many from far - our headgirl!
Only those who have been in the valley can understand this. Hugs lady
Very encouraging, loss of a job is not the end for us, plus people can always use their God given gifts to get by. That's my take away.
Any relations with her my brother? Hope that your are doing well though.
@@kelvinsiato3978 oh yes my brother, however story for another day
How could they do that?
This dera, I am also in a dera. 😄 powerful story
This story reminds me of te question' Who are you without your job title?
And the next success you will be even more prepared to handle it too, thanks
I know this lady from somewhere, can't remember. But in our interactions she was kind and helpful.
i think i know her from way back then-she may have been the head girl when i joined the school....she had a good singing voice as well if my memory serves me right
I have been touched listening to you. I wish I could reach you just to have a shoulder. Thanks
Aàaaaaaaaw you're so sweet, Elishiba
This is my current situation. Thank you for sharing your story Elishibah.
This was my situation 4 years ago..
Shes a strong anchor with words of wisdom she never asked Uhuru for forgiveness she just want peace and unity that once prevailed ...let's not put words in her mouth
Iam proud of you mum
Wow🔥
Well done Elishiba! So well spoken. It's so easy to be presumptuous when you're shining. Just ask Joseph with the blinding colurs from his coat. 🙂
Seasons sober and reveal us in unfathomable ways.
👏👏👏👏👏
Waooh
Titles do not define who we are.We all fall at somepoint, but with the right attitude, belief in oneself and support from our loved and above all through God's grace,we eventually rise up.Well put Elishiba.Thank you for reminding me to be grateful for even the small things.
That was really shocking. God is with you.
The talk, the comments are just awesome.
.We can rise again!
Yes we can
Wow! This is so insipiring thank you for sharing your experience. As for me i stripped myself of those titles because i saw my health was going under due to too much stress. I feel okay starting my own venture. I am really hopeful.
