I have been using the Wilkinson Sword Blades for over 40 years. I was quite satisfied with then until about 2 years ago. I find that they are not as sharp as they used to be. I use to get about about 5 shaves per blade. In the original package, there were 3 blades, which gave a close and smooth shave. Once the number of blades in the new packaging were increased to 5 blades per pack, I noticed that, the blades are not as sharp as they use to be. I am only getting 2 shaves per blade. After viewing many of your videos I decided that I would try the "Feather" blade manufactured by the Japanese and most reviewers say it is the sharpest blade ever produced. Thanks for all of the uploads!!
Wilkinson Sword were the first DE blades I ever used, bought as part of a plastic-handle DE razor set from Boots in the UK; haven't bought cartridges ever since.
Nick, I had a mole about a quarter of an inch below my sideburns. I used to cut it every few shaves. Eventually it got really sore and I got tired of it. I had a dermatologist remove it a few years back. I can't even see where it previously was.
@@dmitrismeliov5240 That's confusing if Gillette makes the Wilkinson Sword DE blades. Schick cartridges are the same as Wilkinson Sword the Hydro 3 and 5.
Gillette makes the Gillette Wilkinson Sword in India and China. Wilkinson Sword invented the first stainless steel razor blades? Almost every stainless steel razor blades have atleast a teflon coating.
Hey Nick, can I recommend something?? You should review different blades using the same shaving soap, because each soap has different properties, and and important fact, the slickness.
You make the best shave videos on youtube... very informative. Thanks and please keep it up. I haven't touched my mach three in months and probably never will again. ill try the wilkinsons.
I just started DE shaving few months ago and I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for videos and keep them coming, I wish more people try DE shaving, no more ingrown hairs, bumps, irritation, it's simply superior shave! Can't believe I was shaving for years with cartridge razors. Shaving isn't obligation anymore it's enjoyment and hobby now :) , looking forward for Astra SP blades review! Thanks again!
For a long time razor blades meant Wilkinson Swords for me. My old man used these exclusively throughout the 80s and 90s in his Safety Razors. I stopped paying attention since but I'd bet the house he is still using them.
I found a pack of these in a sampler I had so I decided to load one up in my Merkur 34C and give it another chance. I have to say...I was pretty impressed. I would say these are sharper than some give credit for. Smooth? not as smooth as a Voskhod in my opinion but not bad. I understand these are triple dipped chrome , then ceramic added for hardness and finished in Teflon so they should be reasonably smooth and long-lived. I ordered 100 for the hell of it. I think Personna have the edge for price / performance balance though.
Holy moley Nick, you really got that thing this time! Enjoying the blade review series. Both shark and wilkinson sword are on my list of blades to try as soon as I run through my current batch. Keep up the good work.
My experience with these blades is that they are very smooth and give great shaves ! They also hold their edge pretty well... I've had 5 shaves out of a single edge blade in my shavette so far and it is still good enough for another couple of shaves ! They are also pretty cheap ! Though I'd love sharper blades ! I usually have a bigger chance of getting cuts, nicks and irritation with blunt blades... One cut from a derby left a small scar and that happened like 3 weeks ago... That's how bad it is for me to have a blunt blade ! Now I ordered feather blades...
The best blades. Been using them probably before you were born. I use them in a 1965 shorty gillette safety razor. The razor makes a big difference in any blades performance, due to the precision bend of the blade.
I just started using a double edge safety razor for shaving, and have only used these Wilkinson Sword blades so far, but they're doing well in my slightly aggressive Parker 71r. My technique needs a lot of improvement, but I can tell that the blades are good.
I just got myself the Wilkersons, this weekend. I had soem Stars that really tore at my face. My Wilkersons did a great job. I over shaved and had a lot fo knicks. I will have to be more careful the nxt time. But I still need to find something sharper.
Yet another awesome vid. I too like Wilkinson Swords, initially I did not. I saw them at my local CVS pharmacy and gave them a try in my Feather Popular. That did not go very well... lots of pulling and passes to get decent performance. However, I now have a ATT S2, and these blades paired with this razor equals BBS with no irritation for me. Initially I had tried Feathers in this razor and it was very difficult and took way too much care, in the S2, to not get irritation and nicks. I will be trying some other blades as well, maybe something a little bit sharper that the Wilkinson Sword, yet as or more smoothness. I am looking forward to the upcoming trials!
I found that Wilkinson Swords are my go to blade. No irritation and very smooth. I get 4 great shaves out of each blade. They are an excellent blade for the Icon 102 Slant. I know you enjoy the Personna Lab Blues. I've been looking for a 5 pack of those blades to no avail. I rolled the dice and bought a 100 pack. I tried them but they just did not work for me. They just don't seem as smooth as the Wilkinson Swords. I decided to give them away to a fellow wet shaver.
i use wilkinson sword blades in my DE razors and in my parker sr1 shavette. i find the blades smooth to use but u still have to be careful or they will cut u
I used them a vew month ago, because they was the only blades in the supermarket. I got many irtitation and nicks with it. changed to Personna and no problems at all.OK, my skills where not good at all, but still, other blades where much better. I will try them later again (yeah, have some of them still left ;-)
Evan Rogers Thanks man! Enjoying your recap videos too. Like you mentioned in a recent video, I prefer shaving ones, but I still enjoy seeing what you use!
Nice review, these along with Personna are my go-to blades. Good performance, keep sharp quite reasonable time and a bit forgiving if using too much pressure. I use a Merkur 38C barber pole razor, lovely it of kit
I bought these blades a couple of days ago. I've used the Persona Blue blades for a couple of months now. I thought the Wilkinson Sword blades were much sharper & smoother than the Persona Blue blades. The shave that I got with the Wilkinson Sword blades was so much closer.
Another great video Nick. I tried the Wilkinson Sword and also thought it was a bit better than some of the other blades out there. I would definitely use them over some of the others. Big Ben are some other decent blades. Looking forward to your review(s) on Astra
You need to try some of the Treet Carbon blades like the Blacks or Silvers. They are sharp and smooth. The Treet Platinum is a stainless blade and isn't quite as smooth as their carbon blades.
Hi Nick, regards from Germany - actually a small remark on Wilkinson blades - they do not belong to Gillette but to the Energizer Group and Gillette to P&G - they are competitors. Here in Germany these blades are available in evry supermarket - and I never used them.....will try after your video as many of your suggestions / preferences works on my face too😀😀
I just used the wilkinson blade today for the first time and I agree with your review on them 100% the smoothness is just great. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos you have lined up man. Shave on!
Funny that you liked that blades that much. Here in Austria these are more or less the only blades you can get everywhere and they come packaged with my first DE razor, the 8€ Wilkinson Sword made out of plastic. Therefore I always think of them as being cheap and bad. Maybe I should give them a shot with my merkur 23c an see how they behave in a better razor. Thanks!
Actually, Wilkinson Sword is owned by Energizer, the same company that makes batteries; they also own The American Safety Razor Company (Personna) and Schick.
Wilkinson pioneered the stainless steel DE razor blade. The invented the "British Process" of coating razor blades. As I understand it, these blades are stainless steel with a ceramic coating. Wilkinson Sword blades are confusing because they come from three different countries. The Wilkinson Sword blades you are using in this video are made in Germany. The Gillette Wilkinson Sword blades are made in India or China. In the last few years, even GWS blades sold in India are mfg. in China. As I understand it, the "Saloon Pack" (50 pack) blades are all made in India; the 100 packs are made in China.
cool videos. thanks for posting them. Can you do a vid about gillette (the red and blue boxes) and also the schick. I want to like the schick but its pretty sharp!!
I would love to see Bolzano Superinox, Perma-Sharp and Gillette Silver Blues. I finally broke down and ordered a soap from Catie's Bubbles and man, I'm glad I did. I ordered the "Knee High to a Grape" scent and it smells exactly like the grape soda that Canada Dry made for Coca Cola back in the 80's wow. I also made the mistake of blooming the scent and my entire house smelled exactly like this soap.
Gillette needs to start producing DEs again. Reboots of their adjustables would be really nice. As for these 'wilko' blades - I find these a little too mild. I have a fairly thick whisker and my growth is kinda east/west with some variation and swirl around my chin and lower neck. I find myself ''grinding it out' a little with mild blades and wind up more irritated as a result. Good review though Nick - good detail and well considered. Thanks !
Just got these in a sample pack. Def need to try them out, and nice soap selection. You should get the LMR from caties bubbles. Getting it tomorrow as well, can't wait to try it. Keep em comin!!
This is positive proof that everyone has a different experience with blades, some more extreme than other. Nick, you and I have a very different face. Number one, we are using the same 34c razor but I find that the Wilkinson Swords are very blurred (dull) right out of the rapper. My wife says so too when shaving her legs. But I find the Rapira Swedish Supersteel de blades very sharp and smooth and you don't on your review. What a contrast.
Thanks for the review, Nick. I have been using these Wilkinson Sword blades myself, since I have started traditional wet shaving 2.5 months ago, in the Wilkinson Classic razor and I wondered how they would score against Personna, Derby and Feather. As I've bought the Edwin Jagger DE89 last week, I am also having Feather blades at home, so I will try these out soon enough.
Wilkinson Blades made by Gillette?Never heard of that.I´m pretty sure Wilkinson Sword(which by the way is the same thing as Schick today as both companys are part of Energizer Holdings) wouldnt sell blades made by their main competitor Gillette. There are Indian "Wilkinson" blades which are made by Gillette.I think you were referring to those right?Good Video.
Nick I have seen some of your videos and each blade you have used seems to be good to you. I mean, kindly review them on a scale of ten or something, the results you share should be objectified and not subjectified.I am not able to figure out which is the best. Sorry, If I came across as harsh.
I've got a brand new tub of LPV that i shaved once with ,and it has a tingle or a burn on my skin I also have a gardenia that i haven't tried yet i hope it was my pre shave oil that burns
Great video man! I love the info you give with your reviews. I just bought some Catie's bubbles LPV and I love it too. Have you or do you ever plan on doing any reviews on the Art of Shaving products? I know they get a lot of slack but I have seen mixed reviews.
Was hoping you'd do Wilkinson since I have them. I think my razor is just not good...I looked it up, it's a 60's Fatboy with blue bottom. Was my grandfather's...I cleaned it up but I don't get as good a shave as I think I should with it, so am going to get one of the Merkurs for my birthday and see how that does. I'm a little moley so I find the Wilkinsons tend to cut me more. I picked up some van der hagens the other day and while they aren't as efficient, I don't get cut as much with the fatboy.
MCKerrnel Hi there, it is not the razor. It is the Wilkinson blade. The blade is crap. I tried them and it is a waste of money. Like a Itchy and Scratchy Cartoon.Take feather, personna, merkur and others. I have a Merkur 37C and a Mühle R41. They are great. Look at Nicks (and others) Videos about good lather and good blades. This is it. You will easy and quick learn how to shave right and once learned you will never miss it.
Nick: My understanding is that German Wilkinson Sword blades (of this video) are made by American Safety Razor (Gillette's long standing nemesis, and owners of the Personna brand, among others). Gillette in India manufactures another, entirely different, "Gillette Wilkinson Sword" blade, but this was not the one of this video. Am I mistaken?
Hey Nick!! Love the videos, been watching you since I started wet shaving last year! You should review the Merkur Super blades!! I've been using them since I started my DE journey! Thanks Nick
Nice vid Nick, These are the only blades easily available to me,at shoppers drug mart,Walmart.....About $10.00 for a ten pack. Any other blades I will go through Amazon.....Just started DE shaving, wife bought me a Merkur 23c......Last time was with my fathers Gillette, back in the 70's.Did not go so well back then.....Thanks again...
Awesome I was looking forward to this review! These blades have been my favorite in my EJ89 - for me it's been the best balance of close shaves, smoothness, longevity and price. Personna are great & win the prize for best packaging (100 blades in a tiny box) but I get more nicks with them. Astra SP seem really good for the money also :)
Wilkinson vs. Bic chrome platinum razor blades. Which are sharper?, better ?I have also tried some Gillette platinum razor blades, but they were not sharp enough......
been following and tuning in for a long time. I know you love the personna's and would love to see you going into the same depth as you do for the other blades for the personna. thanks. maybe it's in your line up of blade reviews?
Hi Nick thanks for making these videos they are so informative, could you please make a review on Gillette seven o'clock green from Saint Petersburg Russia.
According to Wikipedia Wilkinson Sword is Schick in the UK. Edgewell owns both. Apparently Wilkinson Sword has all the same shavers as Schick such as the Hydro line and Quattro etc. Gillette is only mentioned as it's greatest competition and at one time owned some of the company. And WK actually mass produced swords, knives, guns and motorcycles. How cool is that?
Hi there, I was wondering if you'd used Classy Man Shave club? Saw you're reviews of Wet shave club. Seem to be similar. And just wondering if you've had any experience good or bad with them. thank you!
Tried these blades yesterday for the first time. Not as sharp as a feather but a couple of passes leave you really smooth. Nick is a Merkur 34c considered a mild razor?
Nick, love all the videos. In addition to reviewing the blades, I would like to see a more detailed comparison of the blades if time permits. Specifically, other than feathers, the lab blue are my favorites as they are to you. How does each blade stand up to the lab blue? Do any of them overtake them in your opinion? Thanks for everything Dan
Really enjoying your blade reviews. Polsilvers are amazing. I've yet to try Gillette Silver Blue, gets fantastic reviews. Swords always gave me bbs but that usually was accompanied with breakouts from irritation.
Schön Polsilver SI blades are great - in fact, shaved with one today - great painless shave (second shave with the blade). I use GSBs too - have a few hundred in fact as you do :) and they aren't far from Polsilver SI blades (not the brown Polsilver ones). Not quite as sharp but cheaper and a little variety - spice of life 'n all that jazz :D
Those are made by Schick not Gillette. Schick and Wilkerson are owned by energizer. If you go to the UK their Schick products are sold under the Wilkerson name.
I have the Gillette Wilkinson Swords (made in India) and they are nice sharp blades. Not sure how they compare to the made in England ones though. btw, Some blades actually perform better on the 2nd shave. Guess that's why some people cork blades before using them.
Great channel, great reviews. Just FYI if not for guys like you I would have never even considered switching from the grocery store crap I've been using my whole life. First of all I didn't even realize ANYONE used safety razors anymore lol I mean, 1 blade? that don't even pivot? No I prefer my skin ON my face lol - boy was I wrong. Thanks again and keep it up :)
according to wikipedia, wilkinson is owned by Energizer holdings which has nothing to do with Gillette, however they do own Schick, Personna and Edge. Interesting.
are these triple coated blades? chromium, ceramic and ptfe? the triple coated ones are the ones I use and I have a very course beard, I once bought the non triple coated, from walmart, those were terrible. big difference between the 2.
Thanks for the review! Well done. I just got some Wilkinson blades on Amazon, made in Germany, yes, but under the umbrella of Warner-Lambert [ Pfizer? ].
I have been using the Wilkinson Sword Blades for over 40 years. I was quite satisfied

Ross M same here
Same.. but was not good experience
Nick,
I had a mole about a quarter of an inch below my sideburns. I used to cut it every few shaves. Eventually it got really sore and I got tired of it. I had a dermatologist remove it a few years back. I can't even see where it previously was.
Yeah, Wilkinson is (or was) a British company, but they were on equal footing with Gillette in the UK for pretty much the whole of the 20th century.
Wilkinson Sword is a British Company but they moved razor production to germany.
But the company belongs to the American corporation Edgewell.

Brings back memories for me. I remember my father using Wilkinson Sword DE blades when I was a kid. Nice to see they're still around.
I just had a great shave with them in my merkur 38c . . I will keep using them .

I was also surprised by the result, Merkur 34C with Wilkinson blade.
Baby smooth and NO irritation.. even it lasts for 5 good shaves.

The best blades. Been using them probably before you were born. I use them in a 1965 shorty gillette safety razor. The razor makes a big difference in any blades performance, due to the precision bend of the blade.
And they are made in Germany
I just started using a double edge safety razor for shaving, and have only used these Wilkinson Sword blades so far, but they're doing well in my slightly aggressive Parker 71r. My technique needs a lot of improvement, but I can tell that the blades are good.

Great blade for my chinese slant head, you are right.I snap de blade in half and use 3 times for shaving my face and head.
I think you would really enjoy Bolzano blades and 7 o clock blacks.

Edgewell Personal Care Brands is part of this brand along with Schick,Personna and Edge shaving products
I bought these blades a couple of days ago. I've used the Persona Blue blades for a couple of months now. I thought the Wilkinson Sword blades were much sharper & smoother than the Persona Blue blades. The shave that I got with the Wilkinson Sword blades was so much closer.

You need to try some of the Treet Carbon blades like the Blacks or Silvers. They are sharp and smooth. The Treet Platinum is a stainless blade and isn't quite as smooth as their carbon blades.

Do you still use the Wilkinson sword blades
Wow, I was pleasantly surprised with the smoothness of this blade. Great vid as always. Blade Suggestion: PolSilver Super Iridium.
I gave away my stash of polsilver blades, they hated my pretty thick beard. Disappointed as I have heard really good things about them.
My first go with wilky wasn't so hot. I'll give em another try. Thanks for your vids!

Good series, excellent blood letting. Hope your face feels better soon.
I found them to be a very good blade for the price. Not quite sharp enough for me, but I will use the 20 I have left for midweek shaves.
Gillette needs to start producing DEs again. Reboots of their adjustables would be really nice. As for these 'wilko' blades - I find these a little too mild. Great video Nick. Yeah, I'd like to see you review the Rapira Platinum Lux as well.
I would like to see the Tiger Super Max Super Platinum blades. I have been hearing great things about them, and they are reasonably priced.
Love Catie's Bubbles! I just tried LPV and it is excellent, will try LMR soon!
Thanks for the review Nick. I've been waiting for this review!
Kaden Christensen You've got it!
Just got these in a sample pack. Def need to try them out, and nice soap selection. You should get the LMR from caties bubbles. Getting it tomorrow as well, can't wait to try it. Keep em comin!!
This is a great series; thanks for the blade reviews! I hope Voskhod is on the menu.
Thanks you, as always great review, giving me so many new leads on blades just ordered a sample of the Shark Blades

Great video! Would be interested on your thoughts on Polsilver Super Iridium, Crystals, and Rapiras (Swedish Supersteel and Platinum Lux). Thanks!
I read that they've got branches in Germany but it's a UK company and a pretty old one. Awesome video Mr.
Keep on review' in
Hi Nick! How about testing some Rapira Platinum Lux and Lada blades?
rbrrhllngswrth You've got it! Stay tuned
Hello! Is there a particular reason for not immediately stop the bleeding with alum? Thanks!
Hey Nick, can you do a review of Crabtree and Evelyn Indian Sandalwood shaving soap?
Love these blades
How cool is that?
interesting I thought Wilkinson sword was part of Schick. since the Schick Hydro 3/5 is called Wilkinson Sword.
I like the Gillette Silver Blue....maybe you could review those..thx....
nick shaves I am new to wet shaving and was wondering which razor has a better performance between Merkur and Muhle ?
What do you think is better blades? Wilkinson Sword or Bic Chrome Platinum?
BTW, , I enjoy your channel greatly, I just bought a 10066 boar, impulse buy
I would like to see a comparison between all the Gillette 7 o'clock blades
Hi there, I was wondering if you'd used Classy Man Shave club? Saw you're reviews of Wet shave club. Seem to be similar. And just wondering if you've had any experience good or bad with them. thank you!
Tried these blades yesterday for the first time. Not as sharp as a feather but a couple of passes leave you really smooth.
Nick is a Merkur 34c considered a mild razor?
Maybe you could do a review on Voskhod blades please?
Nick, love all the videos. In addition to reviewing the blades, I would like to see a more detailed comparison of the blades if time permits. Specifically, other than feathers, the lab blue are my favorites as they are to you. How does each blade stand up to the lab blue? Do any of them overtake them in your opinion? Thanks for everything
Dan
I don't know how you keep your LPV so nice and white. Mine oxidized the first time i used it and now is quite brown
They are very sharp!!
