They cut out the punchline that the driving cause of nonalcoholic fatty liver is excess carbohydrates. Specifically processed sugars, especially fructose.
I don't eat sugar and restrict my fruit intake. I limit my carbs as well. And yet I have NAFLD. My doctor seems to think it was STRESS-induced. Being someone with PTSD and anxiety, I have to agree with her.
In 1987 my mom, at age 55, was diagnosed with liver cancer. The doctor asked her did she drank alcohol. She said absolutely not! But she didn’t eat healthy even by the standards of that time. She drank a lot of coffee, was a chain smoker for years and drank a lot of coke. She also had Hashimoto’s which probably put more stress on her liver. No wonder her liver was shot. She died six months later. Now it’s my turn. I don’t have cancer,I don’t smoke and I don’t drink sugared sodas. But I love ice cream and I have Hashimoto’s also. So at 65, my last glucose reading two months ago was 175, highest ever. I immediately resumed the healthy diet I had followed a couple of times before. Two months later, my glucose is 135 and I’ve lost 10 pounds. I’ve got a ways to go, but baby steps will get me there.

I just found out today that high blood serum calcium can also raise glucose. Because I take lithium, which causes me to have secondary hyperparathyroidism, which causes hypercalcimia, I have to be careful not to eat too much dairy and salad (veggies have calcium since they come from the ground). The offset is to take vitamin d at a level approved by my endocrinologist: not too much and not too little, and a little extra when necessary. High calcium causes dehydration (inflammation), which cause high glucose. If you or someone you know has hypercalcimia (high calcium) and they take lithium, please see an endocrinologist for help in keeping your calcium within a safe range which will also help in managing your glucose. 🙂
Can you safely get off all RX drugs? Are you on SSRI's too? If calcium is high please limit or avoid OXALATES- very important. If you are on a SSRI, you better taper safely- see Dr. Josef. You do not, ever want PSSD. FYI- Dr. Chris Palmer is curing people using KETO. Working better than most of the drugs. He is at Harvard.
