- I tested the new free leveling FDM printer Magician X from Mingda and used it to get a 66 x 75 x 41 cm frog sculpture printed in pieces. With this little clip I show you how I planed the design and how the printer works. The frog eventually landed in our garden to stay forever...
You can get the printer here now:

I tested a lot of different things with this video:
1. it's the first time I used several prints to get a big model out of the assembly
2. I've never worked with a control device like a raspberry pi and software like octoprint before to get interesting pictures out of the print process
3. I made some bad experiences with new cameras
I hope you like the video clip though...
Videos made with Sony Alpha 6300.

A special thanks goes to Erick Miotke for his fantastic soundtrack "frog scape" - Навчання та стиль
Tom , watching this reminded me of this "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." you are not a modeller , you are a magician!
Thank you

Your videos are the best I've ever seen. The filming to the music. Top notch. I love them and I'm not really into modeling!
I'm pleased to hear 😊

Cool project 👍
Great job in 3D.👏👏👏👏
Thank you
When I saw the opening I thought you had spent your life savings on filament, printed hundreds of frogs and shot them as a stop motion piece.
Amazing project.
One should be enough 😅 - thanks
Outstanding work, tom you are a very clever and skillful man , I would imagine that to be quiet heavy.
All the best Martin 👍

Once people see this they'll stop using garden gnomes and start using frogs for their lawns and gardens. Beautiful creatures from a very creative mind, but we all knew that. 😄
🐸🤩
WIE GEIL;) Hammer
Freut mich, wenn's dir gefällt 🐸🦈
WOW
BIG⚠️🐸
Wow, I've never actually seen the process before, thank you. I enjoyed the music as well.
Can 3D objects be painted with regular modelling paint?
Of course! But for FDM models like this, you're gonna wanna hit it with a hell of a primer first. Or like, wood putty. They have layer lines that are really obvious.
@@dakel20 Thank-you for replying and the information! 👍😀👍
@@-xirx- Yep! I do it a lot so. :D If you want no layer lines, look at resin, but be warned, lots of nasty chemicals there.
Amazing as usual... 😳 what about the cost ? really expensive or affordable ? I m thing about a nice Colt 1911, black and a bank full of money.. 😀
Thanks - the printer's price is around 300$ and the filament used for the frog appr 100$
Fantastic... would you be willing to share how much money that amount of filament costs please?
Thanks - filament costs appr 100 €. I took a relatively expensive one. I could have used much cheaper for appr. 60 € in total.
You should treat the PLA, because it's only going to take one hot, sunny day and it'll melt!
Thanks for the hint - but the frog won't see any sun at his position. I'd like to see what the weather is going to do anyway 😅
@@TomGrigat Glad to hear it, you've inspired me to do a really large decorative print. Maybe a wall mounted fossil of some kind!
Nice idea
How much did all that filament cost for that frog? Print aircraft models someday?...Moses
it cost appr. 100 Euro. Aircraft: possibly.
That's a lot and I can only imagine how much a small aircraft would cost
@@TomGrigat $117 US?, that's a lot less than I thought it was.
And it could have been less to appr 50 $ if I had used not the extra expensive filament...
Me:its huge
