Frontier is a great entry but I had to step away from their community discord. It was so toxic and uninviting to people who dare like any game made in the 5th generation. Not to mention a ton of unmoderated racism. They would say that they wouldn't gatekeep but then throw you to the wolves. Just the fact that they defend this boring mechanic of having to keep catching random bugs and minerals already shows that these nostalgic people are a bunch of idlers who spend hours on end until they get the necessary item. It's a good thing CAPCOM made these changes, spending hours to get the desired bug or mineral was a terrible time-waster. In Gen 2 low rank elders were fairly common, even in main series. The elder trio in FU is available in village 3-4 iirc and village 5 has Lao Shan Lung.
ive been trying to kill musou elze with tonfas for a hot minute, and its safe to say hes the hardest monster in the FRANCHISE, and thats half the fun. the challenge is such a breathe of fresh air from everything else. love to hear another creator on rain server that i might run into some day
I think what I love the most about Frontier's HC Monsters are how much they improve upon their original most of the time. Cephadrome, Green Plesioth, Gold Rathian, Purple Gypceros, and Monoblos are all so much fun with their HC upgrades. I wish the attacks that were given to them would be handed to their main line counterparts. Frontier's original cast of monsters is of such a high quality that it is such a shame other than the OG 3 + Flaming Espinas haven't shown up outside of Frontier. Gurenzeburu is easily my most favorite of the cast. With Taikun Zamuza, Gasurabazura, Toridcless, Forokururu, Kuarusepusu, and Meraginasu are all great monsters behind it. Supremacy Teostra took me 6 full attempts just to successfully hunt and is probably the most satisfying hunt I have done. The sheer amount of work that I needed to put in in order to make the armor set, find the right set of decorations, and make the weapon made the moment where I repelled him all the more satisfying. Though if I were to be truthfull, I loved all of the Supremacy monsters especially Pariapuria, Unknown, and the two fish. They were all fun except Teostra to hunt. I am so glad I never have to hunt Supremacy Teostra again. Also how to do check how much time you have spent in Frontier? I have been trying to find it but can't.
I think a lot of it is that the main developers are very concerned with how monsters 'fit' into the world. Some like Espinas and Inagami do a lot of the work for them, but there's so many that just kind of exist unnaturally (doesn't help that the vast majority are designed to be cool first, and mosnters next. Yes I say this when Zinogre and Magnamalo are right there). I think it's a shame, but besides possible licensing issues, that's how I see it.
Another zenith one shot that is worth mentioning is one even people with a passing knowledge of zeniths are aware of, and that's zenith khezu who when hanging from the celling can launch its neck down, scoop up any hunter that it happens to catch and straight up just eats that hunter whole and still very much alive, Khezu just fucking vores you and how the palico are able to get an undigested version of you out to cart you back to camp is a secret they will take to their graves. Also i love that even if they are absolutely ludicrous the MH team still gave Zenith's an ecological reason as to why they may/do exist, they all come from an over developed part in or on their body, so for example Espinas has an over developed horn, Hermitaur has an over developed set of claws and sawfish boy has an over developed saw leading to them becoming more powerful and thus zeniths
Zeniths are essentially Deviants but cranked up to 100 lol, I love the Zeniths and their Extreme Blights, but if they were to come to the mainline they'd have to be toned, make their overdeveloped part ecologically reasonable and well-proportioned.
For Unknown, there is a Shiten Unknown, she has another enrage and she's even more nuts she's one of the G rank conquest monsters with Disufiroa, Shantien, HC Fatalis, and HC crimson fatalis

Btw letting you know, Ruler Guanzorumu, Howling Zinoger and Blinking Narga were all introduced BEFORE Zeniths. Also these arnt even all the difficulty "types" there's Shiten(She-ten)/Conquest War monster which culminate in 2 monsters, Shiten Unknown and Shiten Disufiroa which have an upper and lower shiten which the upper versions of these monsters require you to no hit them because the damage values are so high even the chip damage of them stepping on you is enough to nearly if not outright one shot you. Absurdity aside I absolutely love the fight design in this game a majority of the time, that big arena Akantor makes and then explodes? Roll it. Big f off aoe that has 0 business in mainline? Roll it or parry it. Its awesome.
If it makes you feel better about the Extreme Individuals, you were SEVERELY under geared and under prepared for them, Musou gear usually consists of a combination of Zenith Premium (ZP Gear) or maxed out Zenith Gear (ZX Gear) + from the damage, i see you have not done "MyMissions" which give a LOT of Damage Reduction, Musous are not meant to be one shot fests, that's Upper Shiten Disufiroa and Unknown, only the nukes should one shot you, in exception of Blitzkrieg Boga, he's slow as shit compared to the rest of the Musous but my god he hurts... badly... I recommend gearing up and going for Musou Guanzorumu first, he's a very nice welcome to the Musou Struggle (once you get your ZP set first tho + Z Cuff and Hiden skill)

The progression makes Elder Dragons available in HR2 because it compresses what was originally 999 ranks into merely 5. This violation of the game's intended experience happened around G10, and it ends up making people adopt Halk Pot thinking it's reasonable simply because the game doesn't give them time to learn and adapt. Also, Ukanlos' japanese name is Ukamurubasu. This is just how japanese names work. It's not only Frontier, nor is it a problem. 7:32 The same could be said about Deviants by someone who doesn't know their (equally simple) lore. 19:23 no, they are fair, and that's the point. 9 out of 10 times you die against them, it's your own fault. It's because you made a mistake. And if you can't recognize that, it means you still don't know their AI, which means you didn't fight them enough. And they are meant to be fought many times until you can finally defeat them, so you're expected to know their patterns AND be able to recognize your own mistakes eventually.
I havent watched the whole thing yet, but Im gonna! Im a 4th genner, started with the MHG demo on 3ds ages ago. When I heard about Frontier, I was absolutely enamored with the horror stories I've heard about it. World wasnt my thing at the time (i wouldnt say its my favorite compared to XX), so being able to try it out last year was amazing to me. The early rankings was all EZ PZ. All was well up until HR5, where I had a major difficulty spike. Halk pots were my savior, and help was mandatory from randoms. When I got to G rank somewhat recently, I instantly started grinding for better armor and skills. Still in early G Rank, only at 69 or something like that. But heres my thoughts so far. The game gets hard. Thats very clear. Sometimes, it seems unfairly (or even annoyingly) hard. But if theres one thing I can say about it, it essentially keeps the same kind of difficulty of learning as mainline MH. Sure, its a lot more vocal and one shot-y than mainline, but theres still that magic Ive felt for all the years Ive been playing. Though it does somewhat lose that feeling of ecosystematic storytelling, I can forsake it due to it not being a main game. Its very community focused, due to its nature as an MMO. Community knowledge got me as far as I have, and being hardcore carried for a while. A good amount of the monsters dont belong in mainline, Ill say that now. But I do believe theres a place for some. Espinas has already got into Sunbreak, for example. But the best of the best for me encapsulates everything I love about Frontier: Rukodiora and Rebidiora. Rukodiora was hard. It was fast, hit hard, and did all kinds of shit I had no clue about. But I did it, over and over again. Learned its moves, was able to cut its tail easily, could dodge every attack, it introduced new things and mechanics for the game. So when I got to Rebidiora, that had new attacks, different design, and enhanced abilities from the Ruko fight? I loved every minute of it and didnt die once. Frontier is a Zenith of a Monster Hunter game. Its fast, its hard, and sometimes it makes no god damn sense. But I love every bit of it, and hope at least a few of these ideas come back. Ways to help you deal with frontier easier: do the My Missionss, get vampirism and skills with evasion 2, read the leaps guide for Rain (just do !leaps in bot spam), look at the mixset channels and genuinely just ask what the best sets to have are etc. Im happy to lend a hand and help you out if you want
how and what you have experienced is far from "frontier" as a whole, not to say that it wasnt frontier in some capacity, but it was more like you being in a helicopter watching the scenery below, but the only way you could truly see stuff would obviously be you being down there in that scenery what i am trying to say, is that it is just a glimpse of what frontier could provide, because admittedly, you have been playing on the easiest mode you could, but i am not faulting you for it because i know very well how things are, i am just trying to highlight the fact that the "real" frontier experience is something that is not playable right now (at least for the public, but it is being worked on) and so a slight gander through its content is very much so a nice way to go what i mean even more specifically is that you using the halk potions and magnet spike, NOTHING was "intended" for it, the magnet spike came out AFTER 95% of monsters, but even the ones after were not "meant" to be fought with it really and halk potions were a very literal pay to win thing but again, i completely understand, i dont think its a "bad" thing to do, there isnt anything "wrong" with doing it even, just know that you are doing it and that frontier as an experience is much more than just this

fun fact: lance and gunlance become very dogshit in frontier, they very little demage and aren't very mobile, but even with that, they can cheese the shit out of blinking nargacuga "how?" you may ask well its simple, there's a "counter" skill that makes you deal demage for every blocked attack (about the same demage as a regular thrust) using energy drink you have basically infinite stamina combine these and just block without attacking and nargacuga will kill itself in a matter of minutes
I've watched frontier gameplay im going to be perfecly honest, other then a few of the more regular or weak monster i dont like fontiers design, philosophy, or gameplay. I could see a few of these absurd monster coming to mainline like espinas did. However, the high tier monsters ,most of the elderdragons, and especially the gameplay i genuinely hope never reach the main line. The main things i love about monster hunter, ecology and methodical fights are near completely absent from frontier.
I really like to play frontier for discover ce testing terrain of the main series developers, but I personaly really don't appreciate the Zenith Rank. Mh is a great game but a terrible dye and retry I think.
I remember that I Freedom Unite, Elders like Kushala were aviable at like Low Rank level 4, which is actually lower than Diablos or Gravios as far as I know, which are unlocked at 5. So old games treated elders really weird in general Edit: Actually, I made a mistake, but the truth is just weirder. Only Kushala is Low Rank level 4. Kirin, Chameleos and Lunastra are 5, and only Teostra is 6. Kushala is literally on the same level as Blangonga and Red Khezu.
Despite all the crazy crap in Frontiers, the player movement is designed specifically around the craziness Unlike *Promised Consort Radahn,* where it feels like you're using Dark Souls controls fighting against *Odin from FF16* Or to use a Monster Hunter example, Escaton Judgement, but there's more than one way to avoid it
i dont agree at all, radahn does nothing compared to the end end stuff in frontier, not to mention that extreme style came AFTER 95% of new monsters, even those end end ones were before, and with extreme style came magnet spike as well that is to say, NOTHING was balanced around magnet spike, it is a very literal easy mode, so no, radahn is way more balanced around the character, but you have this skewed opinion because you only saw when the player is overpowered against frontier monsters
Musou Eruzerion took almost 9 months for the first solo slay on the official server, he only became significantly easier to solo after the release of zz update, which introduced magnet spike and ton of OP skills. But even with all of that now, you still need to put in a decent amount of time and practice to take him down

combine these and just block without attacking and nargacuga will kill itself in a matter of minutes

I remember that I Freedom Unite, Elders like Kushala were aviable at like Low Rank level 4, which is actually lower than Diablos or Gravios as far as I know, which are unlocked at 5.
So old games treated elders really weird in general

Actually, I made a mistake, but the truth is just weirder.
Only Kushala is Low Rank level 4.
Kirin, Chameleos and Lunastra are 5, and only Teostra is 6.
Kushala is literally on the same level as Blangonga and Red Khezu.

Despite all the crazy crap in Frontiers, the player movement is designed specifically around the craziness
Unlike *Promised Consort Radahn,* where it feels like you're using Dark Souls controls fighting against *Odin from FF16*
Or to use a Monster Hunter example, Escaton Judgement, but there's more than one way to avoid it
i dont agree at all, radahn does nothing compared to the end end stuff in frontier, not to mention that extreme style came AFTER 95% of new monsters, even those end end ones were before, and with extreme style came magnet spike as well
that is to say, NOTHING was balanced around magnet spike, it is a very literal easy mode, so no, radahn is way more balanced around the character, but you have this skewed opinion because you only saw when the player is overpowered against frontier monsters
Musou Eruzerion took almost 9 months for the first solo slay on the official server, he only became significantly easier to solo after the release of zz update, which introduced magnet spike and ton of OP skills. But even with all of that now, you still need to put in a decent amount of time and practice to take him down
