You should avoid loaded questions like that in a marriage altogether. That type of question is loaded, because it's the type of question where a differing opinion is going to upset the person asking. If she actually intended to have a thoughtful debate about it, then she might not see it as a loaded question, but it will seem that way to anyone else. It's like asking, "does this dress make me look fat?"

I hated all of it. The cheap 5 and dime jewelry. The BAD BAD BAD hair coloring (NOT professional. A good place charges a lot, but it looks natural. Never saw a real professional woman looking anything near this bad). The blazer, shirt and scarf and WTF is that, shorts..? It's clashing with ITSELF. That is a trick.

I got my Master's degree, I married a man with only a high school education. He is extremely hard-working, driven, had all his life together when we met, knew exactly what he wanted. He's an amazing father and a wonderful provider. He's also 5 years younger than I, and I feel lucky to be married to such a wonderful man who on top of it loves the Lord. Education is not everything, and it's ruined plenty of people.

@@bw4348 no one has ever shamed him for not going to college. Our friends are very sensible and we don’t spend time with people who are trying to live their lives to impress others. So that helps. I was a school teacher. He made more than me. He is now our sole provider and I am a stay at home mom. People wonder how we make it work, but we don’t have debt and we don’t live beyond our means. He also had lots of savings when we married.

I think a better way to approach topics of conversation, is to try to find a common ground by asking them what their interests are ie: "Are you interested in politics"? or "Do you keep up with current events? Or simply "What are some of your interests"? If you find them boring or less than smart enough for you, you can keep it moving without making someone feel inferior for not knowing what you seem like you are expecting them to know. Men especially won't waste their time getting to know a woman if they can't see how or where they might fit into your life.

She's asking heavy questions in a very aggressive manner, I'd be turned off by that too. This is a first date, not a debate competition. Not everyone is comfortable having that type of conversation with someone they just met. I am someone who looks for intellectual women and I was thrown by that question. The problem is that it creates a no-win scenario. If I say that I find that Kavanaugh is a misogynist who will likely take away women’s right to abortion, you will hate me if you are conservative (and likely call me a snowflake). If I say that Kavanaugh has a distinguished judicial record and is the kind of person who should be appointed to the US Supreme Court, you will hate me if you lean left (and likely call me a rape apologist).
If you want to be intellectual on your dates, discuss open-ended topics like the growth of AI and other scientific developments, history that is not controversial, or complex questions on sociology or psychology. Asking a controversial question boxes your partner in.
