    When I first heard of the group Cypress Hill, I honestly thought they were from Brooklyn. Brooklyn has a neighborhood called Cypress Hill and they also sampled Big Daddy Kane's voice from a song which mentions the neighborhood. They were definitely different. At that time, The West Coast had things on lock with Gangsta Rap. When I heard them rhyme in Spanish I was super amped up. I felt they embraced their culture and hood. Being Puertorican, I liked the fact that they mixed Latin rhythms with rap. They are Legends and future R&RHOFers. Respect. Big Up from Brooklyn.

      With all due respect, these cats CYPRESS HILL are obviously NOT from Brooklyn! I'm a Haitian-American dude from Flatbush, and I never saw or heard anything in them that was east coast in their style period! I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, so when I first heard these cats, they reminded me of the Chicano street dudes that I grew up with out here in the west coast. They were obviously enfluenced by Black music ( Funk) and Hip Hop culture so my connection with them was instantaneous! During the early 90s, most groups in hip hop wanted that east coast flava. It wasn't until ICE T, KING TEE, and NWA/ EAZY E came into the mix in the late 80s that influenced groups like CYPRESS HILL.

      @Steezart Yo homie, I'm from the streets of Flatbush, Brooklyn and I was present during the embryonic period of hip hop during the late 1970s and early 1980s. I saw, lived and studied the development of its music and culture. Whether it was the block parties, the rooftop parties, clubs ( Harlem World, Latin Quarter, Disco Fever, Danceteria), Break Dancing, graffiti bombing, Kangol hats, Puma Clydes, Cazals, Adidas sweats, three-finger rings, phat rope chains, the wop, Lee jeans, I absorbed all of that shit!
      My family and I later moved to the west coast. That's where I first met Mexican brothers and sisters. The thing is, I could tell that they weren't anything like Puerto Ricans from the east coast. That being said, CYPRESS HILL never had that sound and Flava from the east coast. To me, they sounded like the Chicano brothers that were into Lowriders out here on the west coast. And considering the fact that they are a band from Cali, I think that they would agree that Mexican culture played a huge role in their sound and style. Of course, all of that would have NEVER existed without east coast hip-hop!
      It ain't about hating dude. It's about kicking knowledge! You young fools need to recognize and respect game.

    • @rafaelleon115
      @rafaelleon115 2 роки тому +10

      East LA was most violent in the 90s. Especially early 90s, in those days drive bys were so common that schools all over LA had to have drive by drills where students would practice getting under the desk in case there was a drive by, this was due to a large number of different gangs going to the same schools. The Mexican Mafia put out an edict that ordered the street gangs to stop drive bys, (temporarily) it was then shifted know who you are shooting at because at the time, a lot of innocent people were getting shot in the crossfire. The danger began to die down in the mid 2000s, especially after the gang injunctions put in place. Gang injunction mean the police can stop a person or a group of people if they look gang related or suspicious which is why the gangs are more secretive now or sometimes they won't hang out in certain areas for extended periods of time.

      No that’s not just how the lines were drawn. Don’t you know anything about Los Angeles history. Most Black people first moved out here from the south for two reasons and most of them settled in South Los Angeles. They came out here because of the aerospace industry. Jobs. They created their communities because it was close to the factories that built airplanes. The second reason they moved out here was to worship Jesus. It was about churches churches and more churches. There’s a reason Southern California is called the City of Angels. It had nothing to do with segregation. It had everything to do with closeness to where people lived and their communities were they worshiped and where they worked. It’s not because people are racist and they hate each other.

    • @samuelplacensia9979
      @samuelplacensia9979 2 роки тому

      Are you from Los Angeles yourself? Don’t you know that the reason California has such a strong economy was because of all the industry that was out here? And now it’s all gone because of what the Democrats have done.

    • @samuelplacensia9979
      @samuelplacensia9979 2 роки тому

      Haven’t you ever noticed all the churches in South Los Angeles? All you have to do is drive down Normandie from Hollywood and count the churches. Haven’t you ever heard of the Azuza street revival? You need to do a little more research before you make stupid comments.

    I remember when I drove out to East LA to register for a class at ELAC back in ‘09. My counselor from my home school told me not to even use the gasoline stations because there wasn’t too many brothas or sistas in East LA and she was worried that something might pop off. I went out there and I didn’t see one single brotha or one sista anywhere, not on the sidewalks, bus stops, or anywhere on the ELAC campus. Fk that. I bounced and never came back.

You must have been born yesterday or you’ve never been to jail or you must have watched this video, but you’re deaf. For you slow short-yellow-bus riders, Cypress Hill confirmed what Nore noticed….LOS ANGELES is separated by RACE just Iike in jail and prison. So in other words square short-yellow-bus rider or deaf boy, in LA….YOUR RACE is A GANG. You might be one these black and “brown” clowns that buries your head underground to pretend that “in-general” it’s Black Americans vs Latinos, especially black men vs Mexican men and that’s “in-general”, in the streets, in the job market, in anywhere in LA. Brothas and sistas who take advice from a non-black American like you and/or somebody who is from out-of-town will end up regretting underestimating how real it is in LA, especially right now. You must not watch the news or understand English either. Lol SMH Plus why would I feel comfortable being the only brotha on a college campus? Have you ever heard of the movie, “Get Out”? Smh Lol So now watch this video again, clean out your waxed ears, read my post again, get a translator, and get a clue. Lol SMH Lol
