NEW Toyota Yaris GR Review: Worth The HYPE? 4K
Does it deserve the hype? ⬇️
More than the supra did atleast this is genuinely all Toyota
Not really
Yeah.
yes it bloody does deverve the hype
No 🤦🏻♂️ people jump on it cos it’s Japanese crap 😂
ROAR-y needs a raise... He's putting out some of the best Automotive Journalism for the average consumer on UA-cam. AND HE WALKED FROM TOP GEAR!!??!! How cray is that? Wish you all the best man
Gotta get off the boat before you can walk on water 😂 -RR (Jay-Z, actually)
Should make a parralel top gear with Chris Harris also quitting and then take Matt Watson from Carwow and Yanni!
@@frenchie3167 That would be epic!
Rory was the best thing new top gear had to offer, I'm so happy he's killing it on UA-cam
Same as other reviewers out there but Rory managed to make so many mistakes about the GR,s specification.Do they not check their work before making it go live on UA-cam ?
Must try harder,very poor effort.
Never thought I'd be interested in a Yaris, but here we are.
Well it’s just called a Yaris, it’s a completely different car, just like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
That "Take my money" moment. LMAO 😂😂
Got me laughing.... Take my money, take it all...
THAT WAS AWESOME!
I love Rory's passion and the way he articulates the driving experience, but there are a number of things he mentions about this car that should be corrected - the price starts at £30k not £33k (£33k not £36k for the Circuit Pack), the gear lever is raised 50mm (not 10mm), the normal driving mode is 60% front-biased (not rear) and the roof line is up to 95mm lower (not 195mm). Also Toyota had to build 25,000 (not 2500) examples for WRC homologation.
yes, was also surprised by the amount of mistakes
@@panikz 2 door. come on Rory :)
Sheesh who cares about all those data elements..hahaha
you must be fun at parties
Also tried to write the mistakes I had seen, thank you for this comment
Have owned this car for a week and it’s absolutely awesome! Freeway, twisties, school drop offs, any situation.
“i dono I call that plastic” ...good one lol
Rory, In normal mode it’s 60% to the front and 40% to the rear*
Finally a hot hatch with a handbrake and a manual gear ⚙️ stick..
I30 N?
@@bensyraj9985 I know, mo said hot hatch with handbrake and manual, nothing about 4wd
That's not a hot hatch.
@@themagicmessiah372 handbrake, gearstick and switchable 4wd..I owned the predecessor Celica GT4 St205.
And that's why I sub this channel..it's just so honest..real..down to earth..and this dude is just Mega..👏👏👏💯
“”Take my money” Ha ha ha
I’ve got one and trust me it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! I’ve driven it on a proper rally track already and it holds up so well and even goes sideways when you want to!
Man we are mad jealous, good for you!
Don’t know why I’m watching this, I’m still studying for my driving test, I’m broke, and I’m a student 😂😂 we can all dream tho
This is not a supermini this is a hypermini, absolutely epic
If you calling Mercedes a class and golf a hot hatch, then Yaris is a class above and it’s real rally car for the everyday driver, not a family car and not a kitchen appliance which the first two are. 👍🚗 Best car enthusiasts toys of last 10 years .
best small Hot Hatch car of the World for country roads and race tracks.
Focus st enter the chat gr Yaris left the chat
@@hotrod7603 Focus ST is in a other class and FWD.
VW GTI s2
@@hotrod7603 the focus is a fwd bruh
A45 AMG for the win
Kinda reminds me of the Fiesta ST that EVERYONE loved. But this is like the RS version
Small correction, normal mode is 60% to front, not rear
Can get cars anywhere on UA-cam. But there's only one Rory.
No one:
Literally no one:
Car reviewer: This GR Yaris is the most overhyped halo.....
Me: Shut-up and Take my Money!
He basically said it to himself 😂😂
the hype comes from the fact all car manufactures have been constricted from producing fun cars due to boring jack asses that hate the car *EU pens pushers
This is a throw back to better days of old, get rid of that info screen, lower the seat, make a smaller mirror and make the 4 wheel drive system 100% switchable front or rear biased. PERFECTION
Rory looked like an excited 10 year old at Christmas 😂
Rory, I say it on every video you guys put out - you're awesome pal and so engaging to watch.
Numbers are all over the place. Toyota have to make 25,000, not 2,500; roof is lowered 95mm at the rear not 195mm; gearstick is raised 10cm not 10mm. Price is £29,995 for the standard car and Circuit Pack model is £33,495.
Watched this a few times. The "Take my money" always makes me smile. Thank you Rory. Another excellent review.
Mistakes in this... roof height is 95mm not 195mm lower and standard price is just under £30k and not £33k
Unlike the unreliable and gaudy Mercedes, this Toyota is an instant classic and because it's a limited production vehicle (at least it was until the idiots at WRC decided to require hybrid powertrains to be used soon), it's a collectible too and will probably be worth a good amount of coin in the future. And it's a reliable machine.
How can you say it's reliable? The 3cyl is a novel engine which has no history at all. Same goes with the car.
If you are basing that purely on the assumption that is a Toyota, then I'm sure thousands of Hilux, LC and Prius owners that would disagree with you.
@@GCast-iv1pd yes, just because it's a Toyota and especially when compared to the garbage that the germans make.
@@GCast-iv1pd "Thousands" out of the millions upon millions sold of those vehicles, still make each and every one of them among the very most reliable vehicles ever offered for sale by anyone.
Uber drivers drive Prius'. Not Benzes. For good reasons.
The GRY is a bit of an odd man out, as it really is a big break from how Toyota normally builds stuff. But if there was ever a low volume car whose expected reliability would deserve to be taken on a bit of faith, it has to be a Toyota where Akio himself is repeatedly putting his, and his "family business"'s name on the line the way he is with the GRY.
Toyota has more to lose than anyone else, from the reliability of their offerings ever being as much as even questioned. The reputation they have built up wrt reliability, is not unlikely the single most valuable intangible asset owned by any company, in any business, anywhere on the planet. To throw that away, and on a car which Mr Toyoda himself is all over the place promoting to boot, would be almost criminally stupid. And Toyota isn't exactly known for the stupidity of their management decisions, to put it mildly.
@@haserotmalach7324 Spoken like a true sheep. I bet you haven't even driven a German car.
@@paulnorman8274 Benz are more expensive than a Prius so that's the main reason, nothing more. Taxis here is AU are mostly Koreans as they are cheaper. Can I say a Hyundai is more reliable?
The reason run-of-the-mill Toyota is reliable is because its intentionally made to underperform. They run on average of 50-70KW per L. The GRY does 125KW/L. If you have any idea about motorsport, you'll know that that's a lot of stress put in the engine. To say that the GRY have the same reliability as their workhorses defies physics and simply put, just barber talk.
I was about to complain about the flat color grading....until i realized this video was shot in GB, thats just how things look over there.
Yep, beautiful Britain, if you happen to be there on that one day of the year!
Mostly an England thing really. Parts of Wales and Scotland are stunning in any weather.
autotrader & Rory been killing it recently with these reviews
Thats the best Toyota’s done in probably I’d say in 2 decades. Btw, I think it’s 60:40 front-rear split in normal mode. We never get this machine in Canada, sadly. We’re wishing Toyota can make a GR Corolla with same formula and backing it to the other side of the Pacific
He walked on to his own show and is RUNNING UA-cam CAR REVIEW CHANNEL PURE GENUS!
If I'm not wrong, it even has adaptive cruise control as standard!
Proper daily driver if you want.
That's correct it does
GR Yaris is the best hot hatch.
I played in Gran turismo sport. it was epic.
“Mercedes” and “hot hatch” just doesn’t sound right
„Hot hatch“ but they are still Mercedes cars which is visible in every way. The interior is just fantastic. Look at the A 45s for example, its ridiculous
At AutoTrade, the NEW Toyota GR Yaris is an incredible Car. Nice Work.
quality, reliability, durability!
I would absolutely buy one if they were sold in the US
Sub 1300kg with AWD, it is super light weight in now a days standard
Yes I would like it lighter though! It's way heavier than my clio
Compared to other hot hatches, many over 1500kg this is a very light car
@@relentlesspursuit6894 it's tiny though. Compared to a Peugeot 308 GTI (1200kg) it's a portly pig.
@@pastorofmuppets8834 the 308 weighs more than the GR, considering the GR has an AWD system that's some engineering feat! A 308 is the same cost as GR - that sounds hugely overpriced for a mildly super up dull hatchback
I am glad you mentioned the fact that the 3 modes don’t really count for a lot on the road. Proper, honest review this. As you say, a hot hatch should also be practical. They shouldn’t be well polished either, one of the ingredients is being a bit lairy.
But in fact this isn’t a hot patch it’s a one off special homologation vehicle there is no other Yaris this shape because this car was never intended to be practical it was made for one purpose. Other hot hatch cars are strictly just soup up version of basic cars with the Yaris is a one off special not based on any of the Yaris besides it’s name Yaris
Shout out knob gang 🤜🤛
KNOB GANG
Its not a hot hatch, its a rally car for the road. Not like the other pretenders...
Rory mentioned the E30 M3 and having owned one at the time it was certainly not over hyped, drive one now and it would feel slow but the handling on track was amazing. I’m now in an 330e which is a better daily but would not match on the track due to the weight. All IMHO
That's your honest opinion and you're correct, I say the E30 isn't overhyped when it drives that well
4:11 self healing car ! 🤣🤣
The Yaris is living up to the hype because it’s been properly designed and executed by its manufacturer. Think about this for a moment. The new Supra is a great machine and after we see what Toyota has done with the Yaris, just imagine what Toyota could have done with a true Toyota only Supra. Just maybe one day, the Supra will return.
The next yaris gr upgraded ,5 seats screen built into dash, lower seating, rear view mirror positioned correctly, visibility improvement, more power, turbo injection
So Rory Which’s your prefer GR Yaris or Focus RS
Exactly my question 🤔
Never understand why people compare this to an a35, golf r, civic type r. It not a competitor. It’s unique.
Hot hatch for sure! Would love to hear Rory's take on the Suzuki GSX-S 1000f. The man does a mean bike review too.
Great review, I wish they would bring this to the states.
That letterbox front view is curious how the design team allowed it. Seems such an easy fix.
Im going to get one of these!! I need a small hot hatch!
one thing I learned from performance versions of a car is that, you don't buy them for practicality reasons.. you want practicality, you buy the standard versions.
Rory' car reviews are miles better than all the rest. Informative and funny. 👍🙂
Damn, are you a presenter at Top Gear? Amazing Review! Love the cinematography too. shut up and take my money LOL. fun fact: the wheel base is longer than a cayman GT4 !!!
There is a actual "Take my money" machine? OK...
Side note: TSOP is a type of polymer plastic that Toyota invented in 1991, and has been used for many Toyota cars. The one used in bumpers are called TSOP-7, and it’s designed to be lightweight, highly resistant from scratch , crack, and heat/cold.
The Toyota Yaris is usually the takeaways car of choice. This will definitely be popular 🤣 fast food and fast delivery
Agreed 😂
I want a comment count of ‘Homologation’ 😂
The Yaris hit puberty. They grow so fast 🥺
After only 22 years...
@@Volcanic73 Better late than never haha
This little yaris with proper maintenance will do 200k miles easy, while merc WONT
What a comprehensive and great review
You deserve more subs!
Casually moves the steering coulomb in and out while driving lol :)
I love Rory's reviews. So glad he didn't disappear after the Top Gear stint.
I actually really like the ge Yaris but they got a few problems but the next year if they make a new one it will be even better!!!
THIS IS A BLOODY BRILLIANT CAR... BUT I CANNOT GET ONE BECAUSE... IT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN MY COUNTRY! SUCH A SHAME AND BUMMER!!!!
Same. My hope is Toyota makes a more "special" or limited version for the USA, eventually. Even if it's $60k+ USD and has to be paid a year before delivery or something. I want this car soooo bad. There is nothing like it for sale, new, here, and there hasn't been in over a decade.
A lot of people are saying that Toyota make a loss for every GR Yaris they make
Credit to Toyota
CEO is a car guy he doesn’t make their sports cars for profit it seems , similar W the LFA
Every time I watch a review the info screen looks like it would really annoy me. I never thought I would be desperate to own a yaris!
"Wasn't designed for retired people" Gulp, at 61 should I sell mine? Ha never - its a joy and a keeper.
How can he get so many facts wrong? As a journalist, he should know the facts.
They all do. Presumably a press pack is sent with the vehicle so take the time to read it or just comes across as a dense reviewer who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
@@mugenmark, agree with you there, 100%. It comes across as if he does not really care about the subject, he's just going through the motions.
Man, you make such good reviews! The best out there!
Very nice review! I've ordered one which will approx. be delivered in October next year. But I've to correct you: in normal mode it sends 60% to the front and 40% to the rear, not vice versa.
Included in the circuit pack are not just the BBS forged alloys with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and the Torsen diffs front and back, but also painted brake calibers and a better suspension.
Don't ever think about not to choose this, if you would like to buy one.
What I miss painfully are two other things coming along with the circuit package in Japan: the front strut brace and an intercooler water spray kit. I've no idea, why they didn't put it in the package in GB or the EU. But, there is a way with aftermarket parts as well.
Another thing is, that you've compared the GR Yaris to the AMG A35, which starts at 54.180,70 € or 45.869,97 GBP. The GR Yaris comes at 37.640 € / 31.866,43 GBP with the circuit pack. That is like comparing apples and pears. Concerning the engine sound via the speakers: they put a microphone in the engine bay, it's not the exhaust sound you are hearing inside the car. But well, it's a bit too "well-behaved" in that matter from the outside. Maybe Toyota wanted to avoid complications with noise restrictions coming stricter and stricter in different countries. But again, this is a drivers cars and a tuners car with lots of aftermarket solutions.
Great fun from RR but I noticed a few mistakes 😕
The E30 wasn’t hyper AT all!
It’s just well thought of now.
The Bugatti Veyron was hyped, but delivered on that and then some.
The GR Yaris is not 261bhp
How much is the rear of the roof dropped by?
It’s a three door, not a two door.
(The E30 M3 is a two door body)
Prices all wrong! Oops!
Drive train modes?
Normal is front biased, not 60% to the rear!
It has a long wheelbase, not short.
You can’t red line it in 3rd gear and be legal in the UK.
excellent reviewer is Rory. Another informative one with plenty of info and passion. Great stuff.
4:09 omg, didn't realise that with the bumper. How did no other reviewer pick up on that. Rory is more thorough than a certain Doug Demuro
In Japan there's a 2wd version with 1.5 auto, it has the exact wide 3 door body
This looks like the perfect high school graduation gift if your sister is into cars. Seriously.
I gauge how great a car is in the video by how big a smile is on Rory's face. JAJAJA
Hold the middle bottom that's located in the middle of the 2 seat it turns everything off so u can drift
You can tell your friends ...you got a Toyota Yaris...and they would say..."yeah whatever"....then you meet'em at a traffic light...LOL
Interesting, as its light with awd with great hp numbers for the small engine. It seems to deliver at all the points that make cars fun to drive. The USA would dismiss this one as its a yaris. For me Id buy it today if I could.
Rory, The standard car is 29.995 pounds in the UK*
Normal mode is 60% front and 40% rear - not vice versa. ;-)
Rory, as always a very good review. 👌👏👍 is In Top Gear you never get the chance to do your thing like here. Quality on this channel .
Genuine, Well written and excellent production quality !
De[ends on what country your in for *hype*. In America, we listen up for the latest updates, word, test drives and reviews on trucks, suv's, crossovers and more trucks! And, right now the Ford Maverick, Ford Lightening, and Bronco are whats up for its hybrid, all electric and regular off road gas engine!
‘It’s got a short wheel base’
It has a 110mm longer wheel base than a Porsche 992..
And Shaq is 110mmm, or perhaps even more, shorter than the world's tallest guy.......
More relevantly, the GRY's wheelbase is shorter than an Imprezas. And shorter than that of any remotely similar, recent triple torsen Audi.
As a percentage of total length, it does have a long wheelbase, though. Particularly the rears are pushed way out to the rear corners. Where the feathers of the arrow do belong, in a car whose rear end may well see some rather sustained high slip angles in the loose, bumpy and variable.
Agree, clutch is weird. Like an all or nothing tap. Quite awkward to find the biting point. Gearbox is great after spending an hour with it
Why did you delay this Toyota yaris hatchback review but still i like your videos . One suggestion can you make an additional video with your subscribers on Automobile talks or something people who are passionate about cars, bikes or scooters etc probably a zoom video call or Skype or microsoft teams etc.
"TING" COME ON RORY, SO WELL SPOKEN UNTIL YOU SAY THING LOL 🤣
I think one of the most underrated hot hatchbacks at the moment is the i30n the overrated I each to there own here RS3 fast on the straights sure but handling is rubbish I do wish subaru would bring back the wrx sti again there were handling monsters everything is to German👍Awesome review Rory.
Apparently there’s roomers of a gr Yaris 1st edition rally sport which will have a 1.6 turbo and supercharged which will have prob 320hp
I usually don’t like hatchbacks... but this one... I’m impressed!
Fun fact, the GR Yaris' wheelbase is 10cm longer than the Porsche 992's. I don't suppose you go around saying THAT has a 'short wheelbase'.
I think all it need is a rally inspired exhaust to give it that quiater but rally like exhaust sound
Vw polo r wrc street is soo underrated it is jut like it
You made a mistake, it's 60 to the front and 40 to the rear
Totyota Supra is pretty overhyped/overrated. It just had a really good engine.
The Mk4 was overhyped, it was an average car when it was stock.
The Mk5 is underrated af.
@@Syzdem Yes, I agree the MK5 is very underappreciated
Totally agree. Hate these "Tuned Supra is faster than any hypercar" morons when the car is in fact a heavy brick for its time. Yet funny enough, Mitsubishi 3000GT or Nissan 300ZX are horribly underrated/underappreciated.
so late mate...everyone else already done a review for this little beast
Can't understand why most reviewers bang on about lowering the centre of gravity, in the real world the only car ever to have c of g issue is the popemobile. (And the first A class) Aside from that the usual inaccuracies from Rory.
London doubledeckers are rather absent from top end autoracing for a reason.....
Also, if a low COG wasn't crucial to good handling, even on the road, SUVs and CUVs wouldn't all suck.
In a performance setting lowering weight improves handling, it isn’t dangerous, but then it is nice to know, and gives it a little bit tighter feeling
Wish it had the dials from the new supra but I adore this thing it’s so cool
