Sometimes I might have to do a gentle lead on Freja when she goes to the vet. I have been working with her on being calmer. She is always handled by me. We’re working on the canine, good citizen and weaning her off the gentle lead for the test.
@@nicoledelieto1735 I work to get my dogs approval and consent. Build trust with the vets. We worked on a lot of mock things at home for preparation. I didn’t do any prep this year because it’s her 3rd year and she’s always done fine because she knows what’s coming once she gets the drops in her eyes that dilate them. But having her agree to work with us makes it less stressful. They did gently hold her. But she responds to really light body pressure. And enjoys being pet and loved on. So it works with her. Some dogs don’t want to be restrained at all. She will get more tense if they hold or restrain her too much. Find your dogs comfort zone and work within that. I’ll have to do a video of what we’ve done
I have been owner training Freja as an Asperger’s syndrome, assistance, dog/autism, spectrum disorder, assistance, dog for a year now. Freja is used to being handled all the time by me. I would love to see your video on the prep work to get Freja to be calmer. She is used to being handled by the groomers and the vet. I need to do some more exposure training on grooming. I will work with my Petco trainers on grooming. Freja is so inclined to me. I work with Freja every day. I need to get back into the training part of our sessions. I have been training Freja since she was 4 months old. I know it takes two years to train an autism spectrum disorder, assistance, dog. I have to train her since I cannot afford to put Freja into the actual training program. It is hard to train her when I have to handle my triggers. Asperger’s syndrome is very complicated in public because I do not look disabled. I felt so bad for you when I watched your video on your service dog getting denied while you were in the hospital. I work as a nurse aide and have experienced a lot of situations regarding resident rights. I also deal with anxiety as well. I have been an advocate for the autistic spectrum and Asperger’s syndrome community for 34 years. I think having a service dog really helps if you train them right. Good luck with Mya’s training! I am working with Freja to wean off the gentle lead for the canine good citizen.
