Josh Smith, awesome playing!! I’ve seen you in several scenarios playing in the background and emerging as an incredible guitarist. One particular video you describe your method of using arpeggios from chords. Incredible insight! And change you can give some more details for us working students?
I just wanted to watch something with good vibes before I go to sleep, but with all this adrenaline now... I’ll be awake for the rest of the week. Thank you for the video
I am an upside down and backwards lefty player and seeing Eric gives me inspiration that I'm not all that messed up with how I play!! .........And always love listening to Josh!!!
Eric's style is unique. He seldom dribbles into the zone. It's like he goes with the flow, waits for it and when he drops that ball, man it's like a huge iron ball that goes boom. His style is formed around a sports car concept - drive it slow and it just keeps on begging to go fast. Thing is he can play. Weird to say, there is such a thing as guitarists who can't play. I only know of one guitarist who gets paid to play solos without the ability to play: instagram.com/kirkwhammett/
Still blows my mind every time.. Josh Smith killed it.. tastefully blue, fast but never lost. Never repetitive or boring. Alwayd impressive. Hats off to both of em. Hell the whole band frfr
I don't know who the 34 thumbs down came from but they obviously don't know music!! ..These Cats can PLAY!!!! They are in a class all by themselves. Great Performance!!!
Interesting how so much Be-Bop is incorporated into their playing which takes them so far beyond 1-4-5- licks. Two truly great musicians as well as the support they received.
Eric is astonishing in how he moves from styles and rhythms seamlessly from single note runs including off notes and jazz chords to power chords and pure blues rock phrasing. Josh is just an incredible player that is always improving, never stagnant. Really appreciate being able to see this kindle of talent, music is everything, thanks for posting.
Something about these two that compliment really well .....two monster players ....Josh to me is the technician , holds his own with anybody really ..commands a song......true pro....and really has his own unique style with that tele .....Eric is just a free spirit with probably more theory and knowledge than he thinks he knows cause he too plays with anybody. Both two of the top blues / guitar players today. Brilliant.
Yeah josh smith has more complex harmonic and bebop phrasing. Eric has monster chops, incredible dynamics, can hold a solo right on the edge of falling apart, hes mind blowing and josh is the most refined blues player I’ve ever heard.
This is freakin' phenomenal. This is my first time seeing Eric Gales playing. And on my second time through this video, I noticed that he hasn't restrung his guitar for a leftie - he just flipped the sucker over and played it that way, with the high e on top. Simply incredible.
Wow, tears in my eyes after watching this. I was literally smiling the whole time. I've never heard Eric Gales before - is he legit playing an upside-down strat, with the low E on the bottom? That's awesome.
Never let josh go first! 😭😭😭he will make you earn it! He can burn it up! I love his skills and knowledge of guitar greats and their styles! Gales is a bad man too!
I love Josh's playing, but for me this was the first time I heard Eric play. Both incredible players. First time hearing Josh sing too, he does that real fine as well.
Gales is absolutely amazing .......but listen ....Josh is right there with him man. These two have very similar styles. Gales can get a little wilder and more free than Josh but that back and forth they had ......that was a draw bro. Both great.
Really? From this, Josh was playing circles around him lol. Granted Eric Gales is another phenomenal guitarist and one that I like but you coming to that conclusion from this video is weird. Did you not see Josh playing his diminished runs? Lol
Aylbdr Madison again as I said he’s been around since he’s a teenager. Look here. ua-cam.com/video/56c7SyX6zxU/v-deo.html I’m Not sure how many yrs but I was a kid. Maybe 25- 30 yrs ago??
@Headwhacker It's not that unusual, e.g. Albert King, Otis rush and Dick Dale. What's really strange is that he's actually right-handed normally, but learned to play like this.
Unreal! Eric Gales.... Hendrix lives.!! Never seen anyoner playing a right handed guitar left handed.. Big fan of Josh Smith and Tommy Emanuel too.. :) big smile!
Two absolute monsters that scare us all. My favourite duel outside of Steve Vai and Ralph Machio in Crossroads. Wish they would hook up twice a year for the rest of my life. Can’t get enough.
Superb, blues guitar doesn't get any better than this with two great guitarists sometimes playing note for note with each other. Eric's rhythm playing was outstanding too. Anyone who voted this down obviously doesn't like or understand the blues and has no soul.
Wow, after all these years, I am still amazed by emotive qualities of guitar, and these two make me want to rip on my strat for hours. The all mighty groove is so heavy here, I am still jamming along in my head. The intensity and skillful fun in which Josh and Eric play with here, just reinforces my deep seeded love of all things blues. And the groove is still playing, thanks BB King for such a great platform and timeless classic.
It's 2 degrees outside here in Anchorage Alaska, but since these guys came on,the temperature done went up 70 degrees. Its cold and dark here, but not in my house ,thanks a million guys.
A Great Band. the whole group, and how they play together, and the perfect blues time...I only discovered EG a week ago, and Josh Smith right now. Them trading licks is such a treat. This is the best blues I've heard since Hendrix recorded Come On.
Awesome !!! I have never seen 2 Great Players play with more blood and guts as this. From the heart and makes you feel it like you are right in it with them. You Guy's got it going on . Many Many Thanks, Josh ,Eric , and Band. !!!
the first part of the solo of JS sounds fairly simple but the way he hits those notes and the touch of it - that' s the difference between someone good and someone great! And you think about the solo by JS that' s it - how can it possible stay up there let alone get better. But then you know the other insane guy on stage! And this cat plays everything by listening to reccords and tapes when he was young. Listen to and LOOK at him: this guy gotta be on PEDs... And what better song can there be than "Paying the Cost To Be The Boss"??! This one and "The Thrill Is Gone" are my all time favs by B.B. King! SKIP EVERYTHING I WROTE SO FAR - THERE' S JUST ONE WORD TO IT: THE BEST BLUES GIT DUAL I HAVE EVER HEARD! Also because there is this huge mutual respect.
So great. I've been following both of these guys for years. The obvious respect for each other as players is so wonderful to see. Did anyone else notice Josh conducting the band by showing the chord changes, stay on the 1 boys!. Just so good. Two of my favorites here and Josh is a heck of a teacher too. Thanks for posting despite the sign on the wall that says not to ;) That's really how guys like this get their exposure. Cheers!
I'm still amazed at how someone can be so damn amazing playing a guitar as Jimi did but ACTUALLY KEEPING THE STRINGS HOW THEY ARE.. MAN ITS AMZING TO LEARN THE GUITAR COMPLETELY UPSIDE DOWN. THAT TAKES TIME AND SKILL. AINT NO TEACHERS OUT HERE SHOWING YOU THAT. I LOVE IT.
God Eric's pulloffs r so heavy. Sounds like a picked/plucked string. And J Smith is just hands down my favorite live guitar player. Epic on all fronts.
Don't know who you are, Linda, but thank you. I miss taping shows w my buddy Lex, NYC mostly, but all over the country too. Social media can be a shitty place, but it's proven to be an incredible platform for stuff like this. Keep doin you ya thang!
WOW!!! I found Eric Gales on YT a few years back and just recently saw Josh on a Normans rare guitar video quickly becoming 2 of my favorites it was like 2 brothers finishing each others sentences Bravo!!
tHIS IS sooooo BADASSSSSSS! I'm just grinning from ear to ear enjoying it so much! They are all so masterful-every one of them! When Josh and Eric get to trading licks, its so amazing the way they listen to eachother and call and response it's just WOW!WOW WOW!!!
Sorry to be offtopic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
Thanks for getting this video Linda!!! Always fun playing with my brother Eric.
Josh Smith Oh I’m so glad I did, moments like this just have to be shared 😊
Damn 🎸 both guys ripping it up! You guys are right up there with my favorites!
God DAMN you guys burn up the stage together!
My two favorite musicians on the same stage love love love it !!! Love missmoke for capturing all these great jams!
Josh Smith, awesome playing!! I’ve seen you in several scenarios playing in the background and emerging as an incredible guitarist. One particular video you describe your method of using arpeggios from chords. Incredible insight! And change you can give some more details for us working students?
Obviously the solos...but Eric’s comping moves my soul. Simple but his rhythm and accents makes the band groove so well!
How can 100 people not like this? Anyone who knows anything about music knows how good these two are. The rhythm section is pretty darn slick too!
Loving the "no visual recording" poster in the background LOL
Josh is one of the best guitarists nobody has heard of; but those cats are FREAKY good!!!
One of the best “guitar battles” I’ve seen, wow. Eric Gales is probably one of the best guitarists ever
no probably at all
It's a rainy night in England and I stumbled on this. Found myself smiling - great, great playing. You guys are terrific.
Can’t help but smile watching Eric play, the simple joy he shows makes it impossible not too. Pair of great talents right there.
2 reasons right here why there is an amazing resurgence in blues music today. Thanks guys!!
I just wanted to watch something with good vibes before I go to sleep, but with all this adrenaline now... I’ll be awake for the rest of the week. Thank you for the video
Haha! It was both good vibes and adrenaline-fused. I wasn't quite prepared for all that either.
😂😂😂
I am an upside down and backwards lefty player and seeing Eric gives me inspiration that I'm not all that messed up with how I play!! .........And always love listening to Josh!!!
The odd thing is that Eric is actually right handed....
#Boom THANKS FOR THE CLIP!
Eric, it was great how you gave yourself time to warm up!
@ Stephen Fry You're an idiot.
Guitarwizard
Certainly seems that way doesn't it. :)
Stephen Fry Mate telling a guitarist how to play is like telling a river which way to flow. 😌
The Baked Potato!!! Brings back a lot of memories
Still blows my mind every time.. Josh Smith killed it.. tastefully blue, fast but never lost. Never repetitive or boring. Alwayd impressive. Hats off to both of em. Hell the whole band frfr
The jam session every guitar player has wet dreams about
A hendrixy gangster and a country influenced modern fusion player. What a combo.
It doesn't get much better than this. Still great 3 years later and makes me smile. Can't wait to watch it in 30 years
Those 2 are bad ass ..., and the inter play between the 2 is just nuts ... the chops and feel , absolutely insane.
That line from 1:50 to 1:54 is sooo simple yet TASTEFUL as hell!!!
The love Eric has fun while he plays is great!!!!!!!!!!
As a lifelong musician, I love how these pros make room for each other to express themselves. Listen for the spaces.
Dear god the feel Eric plays with is just .....next level! Simply unreal player
Josh you are playing so well, and Eric continues to blow us away !🎵
Something about these two that compliment really well .....two monster players ....Josh to me is the technician , holds his own with anybody really ..commands a song......true pro....and really has his own unique style with that tele .....Eric is just a free spirit with probably more theory and knowledge than he thinks he knows cause he too plays with anybody. Nice!
Yeah josh smith has more complex harmonic and bebop phrasing. Eric has monster chops, incredible dynamics, can hold a solo right on the edge of falling apart, hes mind blowing and josh is the most refined blues player I’ve ever heard.
I bet eric would jam with anyone on that level.. he is truly ALWAYS genuinely happy when those blues are playing. I LOVE IT.
PCLoadLetter84 yeah that's him! Jimi Hendrix needed to switch strings before he could test a guitar in store, Eric just puts the guitar face down.
Word dude is a guitar gangster
Albert King used to play his famous flying V like that too
Kolya Finn the crazy thing is Eric isn’t left handed. He just learned the guitar totally backwards. :-D
Yep low E on the bottom
He’s unbelievable
Never let josh go first! 😭😭😭he will make you earn it! He can burn it up! I love his skills and knowledge of guitar greats and their styles! Gales is a bad man too!
Holy smokes, the back and forth they do towards the end is outstanding
THAT was one of the best performances I've ever seen! Never heard Josh Smith before and really digging Eric Gales...phenomenal player.
I love Josh's playing, but for me this was the first time I heard Eric play. Both incredible players. First time hearing Josh sing too, he does that real fine as well.
Gales is on a completely different level. There is no one living to compare him with.
christone........watch out
Gales is absolutely amazing .......but listen ....Josh is right there with him man. These two have very similar styles. Gales can get a little wilder and more free than Josh but that back and forth they had ......that was a draw bro. Both great.
There are actually lots! He's awesome though!
@@bcummings2187 White guys can't do blues lol. Joking, but I did enjoy Gale's solo better. Josh Smith is still a great musician.
Really? From this, Josh was playing circles around him lol. Granted Eric Gales is another phenomenal guitarist and one that I like but you coming to that conclusion from this video is weird. Did you not see Josh playing his diminished runs? Lol
This is the first time Ive heard of or ever seen Eric Gales, and holy shit :l
Martin Ortiz I suggest you get back on that search page and put his name lol you won’t regret it
My first time hearing Eric play, and he just became my rhythm pocket mentor. No joke.
Martin Ortiz he’s been around since he’s a teenager. Hold on. ua-cam.com/video/56c7SyX6zxU/v-deo.html maybe 25 yrs ago?
Aylbdr Madison again as I said he’s been around since he’s a teenager. Look here. ua-cam.com/video/56c7SyX6zxU/v-deo.html I’m

Josh is one of the few players who can hold his own with EG on stage - what an awesome pairing!
Josh can hold his own on any stage with anyone!
@@missmoke007thebestmusicvideos gregory kochery?
@@mvhax2ftw352 Man Gregory can do mockery of a lot of players but even JS and EG are stalwarts. I love these 3.
Amzing, one of the best performance i ever see. Josh and Gales are incriedble guitar players.
Two of the finest guitar players in the business. Thank you Missmoke for this incredible video.
I cnt stop playing it , The Gods have returned!!!!
Blues and real musicianship alive and well!
Unreal! Eric Gales.... Hendrix lives.!! Never seen anyoner playing a right handed guitar left handed.. Big fan of Josh Smith and Tommy Emanuel too.. :) big smile!
Two of the best out there, no doubt.
Absolute monster players!!! Enough licks to go round the world twice !!!
Whoever was privilege to actually see this ,my envy runs deep my friend deep !
Two of the best bluesmen alive!
More than likely, maybe the best guitar work I've seen!!!
OMG.
Two absolute monsters that scare us all. My favourite duel outside of Steve Vai and Ralph Machio in Crossroads. Wish they would hook up twice a year for the rest of my life. Can’t get enough.

Eric plays with the strings upside down, if you dont know how crazy that is...its mind blowing.
Albert king played like that too!!! Mind can’t comprehend
Josh is the coolest dude! Very nice and exceptional player...and Eric is well ....beyond this planet what a moment at end incredible....!!!!!!!
BRILLIANT! This is euphoric blues!
That Eric lick at 9.07 is awesome. Well, the whole thing is awesome. You guys have truly mastered your craft.
Great players - Eric seems to just play in his own special universe of mind boggling talent and groove.
And Josh is also something else !
So great. I've been following both of these guys for years. The obvious respect for each other as players is so wonderful to see. 12 bar blues on steroids, as much as i admire Josh and Eric, the goove that Travis and Gary get, is SICK!!!!
