Seriously, I saw Alien Alien the day they announced Fami as Lovebites 5th element. I f***ing love that track now, it’s so catchy it’s insane. Even the vocals! Any of her uploads on her channel are worth watching. The word “talented” used to describe Fami is almost insulting. And the best part…just like the rest of the band, she always has a smile on her face (yes, Miyako can, and does smile…just not as much as the others). Fami smiles more than the rest of the Japanese population put together. And she is very very creative. She deserves to be in the only band on her level and they deserve to have her. Imagine the bass auditions. There's Asami, Midori, Miyako & Haruna listening to each one. They probably would listen and pick some saying wow, this is great and are on our finalist list. Then, they hear Fami. If I was a fly on the wall, I'm guessing there would be four jaws hitting the floor real hard. And, Miyako and Midori probably had to wipe a lot of drool off their faces. When you think of the skill level of M & M, and then you hear this, you run REAL fast and grab her. Funny you mention Archspire, because they are IMO the best technical metal band out there right now. Fami easily equals their skill level. She was a teenager when she recorded this as she is only 20 now. Absolute prodigy. For a bass-off, the first bassist that comes to my mind is Les Claypool from Primus.

I subscribed to FAMI's UA-cam Channel 2018 and checked it regularly and was always enthusiastic, the last visit was where DAVIE 504 felt threatened by her. Then that happened with MIHO, it was a really big blow to the pit of the stomach, everyone was really worried, it's incredibly difficult to replace such a female Japanese version of Steve Harris in a band. I didn't have FAMI on my list at all, no idea why. As FAMI was introduced I was immediately sure that it was the absolute maximum bull's eye, of course FAMI who else......hahaha. I was immediately deeply relaxed. Made a clear level up from a really difficult situation + 2 babies so also used the meantime perfectly. For FAMI at the age of 20 it was probably the jackpot to get into one of the best heavy metal bands in the world. As far as I know there was not the slightest resistance from the fan base, everyone is deeply relaxed. Now she is being trained for the first smaller-scale live shows. I like your special reactions

She was only 17 at the time and had been playing bass for about 5 years. All I can say is that I have good taste. Of course, I'm sure it's not an extraordinary amount of practice.
You guys are exactly right about the precision part. She's more than some student that practiced perfect technique for 10 years. A lot of people who aren't that particularly schooled about technique might look at this as a fun, chaotic and cool performance but what really should blow your mind is her PRECISION. On top of that this is her interpretation of an original anime song. You put all that together and she's more than a musician, she's an artist. This is a pure piece of art.
I'm a bass player myself though I never played seriously. But even with tons of practice and devotion to the instrument, I don't think I could come close to Fami's talent. She is insanely good. And the scary part is, she's only around 20 years old from what I read. She can only get better. I do not think Lovebites could have picked a better bassist
For the record, this video was shot when she was in high school. She became a celebrity in Japan when she posted this video. She was not well known to foreigners, but she was quite famous in Japan before she joined LoveBites.

Did anybody mentioned that it was three years ago and she was still in high school. Yes, that was a regular harmonics and yes, it needs really delicate touch on the string. It is extremely difficult to do that with that speed.

For your fair understanding , in this video, Fami has recorded sound and movie separately which in clearly mentioned in her channel in Japanese language. But it can not be even a bit piece of reason to doubt her skill and talent as she already proved in "Judgement day" . LOVEBITES has successfully welcomed 5th genius to their band.
This was so much fun to watch. Fami is so crazy good it is scary. The word is that when the girls collectively chose Fami, Haruna cried with happiness. Can't wait to get my hands on Judgement Day (pre-ordered) and the 'Auditions' Blue-Ray. And if they have a US tour, I will find a way to be there (I live near Houston, so it could be close). They have a Live 2 Day show at Ex Roppongi Theater in Tokyo on Mar 11-12, and that MUST be a Live Concert DVD in the making!! See, the "problem" in Japan, for musicians and many other things, is that the bas(s...hah)e line of talent and dedicated learners is so high....A is for Average, after all. There is a ridiculous amount of insanely talented musicians in that fairly small country, so it takes a lot and you have to be inventive to stick out of the crowd. Hence why japanese music can be so wild. And that's a goddamn good thing. Not that there aren't plenty of stupidly talented people in the west, but they stick more to a sort of norm and thus don't stand out as much, or maybe rather as often.
Agree, except I think the Asians, in general, put a lot more effort into their work, and take it a lot more seriously, than the westerners. We want to get to a level of professionalism where we can make a living at it, and that's good enough, whereas, they keep raising the bar for themselves. They always think they can be better (personally), and then prove it (to themselves). There is a saying, that I truly believe: "No matter how good you think you are at your instrument, there is a 9 y.o. Asian girl who is better!"

The 5 members didn't even play Power/Speed Metal before they formed this band.. They just suddenly decided to play Power Metal, and sing every song in English.. It's scary to think that you MUST to change your main genre to a genre that you never touch before as your basic genre.. But Lovebites did not stick in just one genre, they mixed all different metal genre and put it in 1 album..

This a guess, but I’m pretty sure the whole Lovebites is looking for a new bassist worldwide was just for show. I’m pretty sure once Miho was out Fami was in. How could she not?. Miho is awesome, but this kid is just on another level, and IMO it was the missing piece to take Lovebites to mad level.

Apparently Fami was considering quitting when the Lovebites audition came along, and if so, she and Lovebites saved each other. One other thing: I find Davie504 amusing, but he accused Fami of faking her videos, which may have contributed to her thinking about quitting. It was a classless thing to do, especially to a teenaged girl who was not harming anyone. I will not be watching any more of his videos.
That is a misconception. He did not say she was fake, just that the music was pre-recorded and played back while she danced to it and mimicked playing the notes. Which even Fami admitted to doing in her videos.
@@ChadTheDragonLord He also suggested that those two tap harmonics she did were fake because he didn't see her touch the strings. The important point is that SHE took it as an accusation of faking.
I went and watched Davie's video, he seems to give her justice. He spotlighted the inconsistency between video and audio and was a troll about cos that's just Davie. He did say there's nothing wrong with playback though and acknowledged her skill. Hell, every band has to do it when filming music videos or we'd only have studio playthroughs! she is a decent bassist, but the video is FAKE! In the tapping part, moving of hands and pitch of sound do not match at all, and in the slap parts, the visible slaps do not match the audible double slaps as well. BTW: Davie504 commented on this already - FAKE!
We are aware of the story with Davie, I've seen his video as well. But she's playing back to her own recording which is the standard mode of operation for just about every single music video out there. Live videos since she joined Lovebites also show she's capable of this level of playing. Nothing wrong in my book! / George

I think there is a fierce battle between BAND-MAID and LOVEBITES. Different genres, but the musicianship and compositions are insane with both bands.

Agree, except I think the Asians, in general, put a lot more effort into their work, and take it a lot more seriously, than the westerners. We want to get to a level of professionalism where we can make a living at it, and that's good enough, whereas, they keep raising the bar for themselves. They always think they can be better (personally), and then prove it (to themselves). There is a saying, that I truly believe: "No matter how good you think you are at your instrument, there is a 9 y.o. Asian girl who is better!"

But Lovebites did not stick in just one genre, they mixed all different metal genre and put it in 1 album..

This a guess, but I’m pretty sure the whole Lovebites is looking for a new bassist worldwide was just for show. I’m pretty sure once Miho was out Fami was in. How could she not?. Miho is awesome, but this kid is just on another level, and IMO it was the missing piece to take Lovebites to mad level.

@@thewindmillfullovcorpses Awesome bands. Band-Maid is the most complete of these bands - they are a rock band, not a metal band, but they pull in influences across the rock and metal spectrum and have excellent songs in all rock styles. I e like to say they are their own genre.

Apparently Fami was considering quitting when the Lovebites audition came along, and if so, she and Lovebites saved each other. One other thing: I find Davie504 amusing, but he accused Fami of faking her videos, which may have contributed to her thinking about quitting. It was a classless thing to do, especially to a teenaged girl who was not harming anyone. I will not be watching any more of his videos.
That is a misconception. He did not say she was fake, just that the music was pre-recorded and played back while she danced to it and mimicked playing the notes. Which even Fami admitted to doing in her videos.

I went and watched Davie's video, he seems to give her justice. He spotlighted the inconsistency between video and audio and was a troll about cos that's just Davie. He did say there's nothing wrong with playback though and acknowledged her skill. Hell, every band has to do it when filming music videos or we'd only have studio playthroughs! she is a decent bassist, but the video is FAKE! In the tapping part, moving of hands and pitch of sound do not match at all, and in the slap parts, the visible slaps do not match the audible double slaps as well.

We are aware of the story with Davie, I've seen his video as well. But she's playing back to her own recording which is the standard mode of operation for just about every single music video out there. Live videos since she joined Lovebites also show she's capable of this level of playing. Nothing wrong in my book! / George
