Glad it helped! Tough being a trader on M1. We just recommend it for longer term accounts when just starting out due to the ability to buy partial shares. Stay green out there!
I’m years late, but a more accurate title for this video would be something along the lines of Types of Setups for Trading Options on ThinkorSwim. You have a good overview of the interface but it was more focused on types of layouts/viewing options rather than how to actually trade options. I still got helpful information though 😁
This is very true. It was more about the mechanics of using the platform not intended as an options trading tutorial. Perhaps keep an eye out in the future!
Thank you, I'm so grateful for your explanation. I tried to write while you was talking but when you went to active trader, I couldn't keep up. Active trader is much easier but I need the steps in writing. Where can I find it in TOS? Also my screen in paper trade is not the same as your screen. Thanks again, be blessed
Hey Doris, Im not sure that there are written up steps for this. Just rewatch the video and feel free to pause it in between. Paper-trading will always look different than a live account.
Great point, however to sell, you reverse the process. It can be difficult to create more complicated spreads, but overall, if you wanted to sell a contract short, you click on the ask, open a sell window, and adjust from there.
I know this is old but thank you. One question... how do you seem to switch between pointer, price level, without even going to the toolbar pinned. it doesn't look like it can be done it hot keys
Love your video training. You're so concise and clear. I was just wondering though if you could do something to help the screen be clear. Everything's fuzzy for me.
Was thinking about potentially updating this video for the new year. The recording was fairly old and I cant increase the quality... be on the look out for a new one soon!
Say that you have bought 10 contracts of BA and you want to sell them at mkt. price. When you go into the option chain what do you click on to sell your existing 10 contracts ???
How come no one ever makes a video of what exactly options is and explain puts, calls on TOS.. there a a 101 videos explaining the lay out. I can't find any videos that explain step by step what exactly they mean on the TOS platform.
They mean the same thing on every platform. Options on TOS are the same as options on Robinhood or interactive brokers. So just look up what are options.
Hi Vinu. We are actually just wrapping up editing and producing a video on what options are. Look out for it this up coming week. Hopefully its what you're looking for!
You can create an advanced order ticket and add different options to it to create a number of different spreads. Should I make a tutorial on that? Would that be valuable?
If you look at the active trader tab directly above the price ladder there is a grey bar with some options in it. On the right hand side you can see 'P/L Open' and 'P/L Day' Let me know if youve got any other questions!
@@TKKSuper Hmm.. Thats really odd. Maybe try resetting the platform? If that doesn't work you could always call customer support and find out if its because its a paper account or if theres some setting you need to adjust.
how about closing your positions and taking partial or full profits. I know you mentioned flattening, will that be like closing all positions and taking profits or minimizing losses?
@@TradeBrigade Are you saying that "Flattening" closes out ALL option contracts (for all tickers and option chains) that you have open or it just closes all the open positions (quantity) for that specific ticker and option chain? Thanks, great video!
Hi. I would like to trade options.I have td ameritrade account.Which option subjectives select in Margin/Options upgrade form to trade options if I have not a lot of money. As I know the option contract must be executed (covered option). Is it possiple to trade non covered option contract.
In a cash account you can only go long (buy) calls and puts. With a margin account (usually a 2-5k USD minimum) you can short (sell) options. Hope this helps. If you need more clarification the ToS support team should be able to help!
the third option with the option chain dropping down when you click on the ticker isnt working for me it just pulls it up on active trader? how do i fix this?
Based on your question, I would recommend paper trading to build the skill of chart reading and trade execution, save the couple hundred. Prove that you can be profitable.
Copy&Paste is the most inconvenient one. "Link to" is much faster - and the selection method (method 3) is the best if you want to switch calls/put or to a different strike.
@@TradeBrigade you said the ITM options were in pink (instead of purple as displayed in video) my guess is that it's pink when using the Light appearance instead of dark.
If this is for beginners then you were going too fast. Talking fast and clicking from one to another too fast. It’s hard to follow all the clicking you were doing. Try slowing the pace. Thanks.
Hey Kevin, sorry you felt that way. We try to respect the viewers time by concisely conveying as much information as we can in a reasonable amount of time. If you're following along with your own platform feel free to pause the video, find what you need on your own dashboard and resume. We will keep it in mind for future videos! Thanks and stay green this week 👍

Trading Options. To Buy and SELL. You only demonstrated how to Buy. On TorS the sell side is very confusing. But thank you for the video!

Hey matt,, was wondering if you have any fair gap video explanations?
Negative. I have never looked into ICT concepts, but think that fair value gap terminology comes from that side of the world.

how do you trade multi leg option spreads in TOS?

@@TradeBrigade Yes that would be very valuable buddy!
The drop down menu method I can’t seem to get the options chain to show the current stock I’m looking at any help 🙏

Yes Halla. When you flatten a position, you are closing all of the open contracts at market value. It can be for profit taking or to stop out!
@@TradeBrigade Are you saying that "Flattening" closes out ALL option contracts (for all tickers and option chains) that you have open or it just closes all the open positions (quantity) for that specific ticker and option chain? Thanks, great video!

Make sure you are clicking into Options and then the ticker, not just the ticker without first going to the options tab.

No Idea what that is supposed to mean.
if this is for beginners you do a very poor job explaining, most words you use have no meaning... in the money ? out of the money?
This was not meant to be an explanation of options. This was meant to be an explanation of navigating the ToS platform for an options trader.
