YMA O HYD - DAFYDD IWAN x AR LOG x THE RED WALL (OFFICIAL CYMRU WORLD CUP 2022 SONG)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лис 2022
- Dafydd Iwan’s iconic ‘Yma o Hyd’ has been remastered from its original tapes, elements re-recorded and dramatically mixed with the voices of The Red Wall as the official anthem for Cymru’s appearance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Hidden microphones inside Cardiff City Stadium during the two FIFA World Cup Play-Off matches recorded over 70,000 voices of The Red Wall singing ‘Yma o Hyd’ along with Dafydd Iwan as Cymru created history by qualifying for their first World Cup since 1958.
The song also features the voices of the Cymru squad singing the emotionally charged song in their post-match celebrations with Dafydd Iwan on the pitch following their 1-0 victory over Ukraine that was secured by Gareth Bale’s free kick.
‘Yma o Hyd’ was originally recorded by Dafydd Iwan and Ar Log in 1983 as a passionate song of defiance about the survival of the Welsh language against all the odds. The song’s title translates to ‘We’re Still Here’ and celebrates Welsh as one of the oldest living languages in the world.
The song has become synonymous with the recent success of the Cymru National Teams and Dafydd Iwan has spent time with both the men’s and women’s squads to explain the cultural importance of the song.
“Yma o Hyd has become a national slogan and now the song which gave meaning to it is the official anthem of the Cymru National Team for the World Cup,” commented Dafydd Iwan about the remastered version of his anthem.
“It’s an impossible dream come true and the incredible sound of The Red Wall on this track is exciting and inspiring to hear. This version of Yma o Hyd forever documents a marvellous moment in Welsh history, with all those wonderful voices helping Cymru reach the World Cup with their passion.
“No other nation will have anything like this to inspire their team on the grandest stage of them all. So c’mon Cymru, let us tell the world that we are here.”

Never forget Dafydd Iwan went to prison for the Welsh language, absolute legend ❤🙌
Absolutely a legend 🏴❤️
Did he go for speaking the language or did he go for breaking the law of land in support of the Welsh Language? If you want to make a point, please give the full context.
@@cpn9072 What does it matter? The fact is, the English banned Welsh people from speaking the Welsh language in Wales. That should never have been a "law" in the first instance. Dafydd Iwan and all like him will forever have my respect💯%🏴
@@cpn9072 I know exactly what type of person you are from reading your comment. Just shut up
Most of the north east and the rest of the north would back the welsh no doubt 🤝🏻 I’ve always said welsh should be taught in English schools as a second language instead of French Spanish and German and that we should call it by it’s proper name Cymru
This song makes me proud to be Welsh and I'm not even Welsh.
Hahahaha! 👍
I really like this song, I’m English & I will always remember & support the striking miners too.
I'll never forget seeing the tears streaming from Dafydd Iwans face as he opened for our qualifying match. Witnessing a chorus of people (at least 30,000 strong) singing his own song back at him: A song of nationhood, a song of history and culture, a song of protest and celebration *in our mother tongue* - where at least 60% of the people singing weren't born when he wrote it!
In that moment - You got to see one man's dream come into reality... which in-turn inspired our boys to make another dream come to light: Cymru is a country of the world, and has continually "punched above our weight" on the world stage, but have rightfully earned our place amongst nations of the world to do so.
Ymlaen bois - YMLAEN!

English man here, didn’t understand a word of it but it was pleasurable to watch, well done to Wales 👍🏼 beautiful country, one I love visiting regularly 😆
Thank you.
Here's the translation for you, ffrind. 😁
"You don't remember Macsen,
nobody knows him.
One thousand and six hundred years,
a time too long to remember.
When Magnus Maximus left Wales,
in the year 383,
leaving us a whole nation,
and today - look at us!
We are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything
Let the wind blow from the East,
let the storm roar from the sea,
let the lightning split the heavens,
and the thunder shout "encore!"
Let the tears of the faint-hearted flow,
and the servile lick the floor.
Despite the blackness around us,
we are ready for the breaking of the dawn!
We are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything
We remember that Macsen the Emperor
left our country in one whole piece.
And we shall shout before the nations,
"We'll be here until Judgement Day!"
Despite every Dic Siôn Dafydd,
despite old Maggie and her crew,
we'll be here until the end of time,
and the Welsh language will be alive!
We are still here,
in spite of everyone and everything..."

21 years married to a Welsh girl and listening to this for the first time brought me to tears. Go on boys! Best of luck in Qatar.
The diaspora here in the north west of England are right behind you - the children and grandchildren of Welsh speaking north Walians who came to Liverpool, Manchester and the industrial towns of Lancashire and Cheshire to make a life for themselves because Sydney, New York and Toronto was too far away from home. I might be born English but when it comes to football, Wales was always it - the Racecourse Ground was always 40 minutes on the train and Sgorio was always on the telly as a kid. It's brilliant to see Wales finally achieve their World Cup dream 64 years later, we have been waiting a long time too.

As a boy, I cried in the stadium in November 1993 when Bodin missed the pen. I cried on November 27, 2011 for completely different reasons, and now in November again, am in tears watching that. Feel so privileged and lucky to be Welsh. Thought I’d experienced the biggest high during the 2016 euros, until we joined the Red Wall this summer and sung this in the stadium. An unbelievable moment that I’ll never forget, and an unbelievable song that captures Welsh people doing Welsh things. Dafydd, you star. Sometimes it takes a while for the stars to align but they sure have done so with this.
i creid when Trappatoni was put in charge of Ireand and the silence over the landsdowne riots says you .
I live in California, ancestors from the Northern Atlantic. I know an anthem when I hear one, regardless of my lack of language skills. So moving, all those male voices.
I started listening to this song Half Scottish/Half Welsh. All I can say is the Welsh half has swelled up with pride listening to that
Wow. I am Welsh, born and raised in a Gwent coal mining town but moved away to England in my mid 20s. I'm Welsh at heart and followed the rugby team even through their troubles. But this is something else. The Welsh FA have played an absolute blinder here. The football team is more than a group of football players. They are a perfect movement at this time and place. I am moved every time I watch this or the live version at the CCS. I keep going back to watch the anthem against Ireland in the 2017 playoffs. It's pure emotional that gets your heart. I know the struggles of Wales. I grew up in the remnants of Thatcher's closing of the coal mines leaving most people with no prospects. But we're still here. More than that we're thriving. This is just a perfect song to capture the spirit of Wales. The FAW are a shining example to the world on how to galvanise a country. Powerful, moving and zero f##ks to give if nobody else understands it.
Agreed. I was brought up on rugby and stuck by them. But Welsh football has caught me by surprise and this is a movement.
@@ianto8823 I just feel so proud of it. It does not matter if this team wins, loses or draws. It's bigger than that. It makes me want to move home sooner than I planned.
agreed also I'm gwent boy too and had to go manchester recently for uni

Unfortunately we have not been able to learn Welsh, since my grandparents lost contact with their respective families and then passed away, which has made it difficult for us to find information about it.
