@@tuxedoedone3891 EARLY GAME SPOILERS FOR Y6:
Haruka falls into a coma after being hit by a car. The player can feel that Kiryu, despite him always being subtle in his emotions, fucking loses it internally for the early parts of this story. Like, he allows himself to think of what might happen if she died. To me this song represents Kiryu already entering the bargaining stage of grief. The lyrics fit too well with the plot.

The smile in Kiryu's face is just as fake as the positive vibe this song is trying to give me without understanding the lyrics
Mmm yes lyrics about a dying person.
But really, it reminds me of Hey Ya and how the lyrics are completely different than the tone of the music.
@@Documentoh Nah Hey Ya doesn't really work because it's carefree as the lyrics convey. They're saying relationships don't work, so why not just be carefree and have fun. Pumped Up Kicks is a better example of a song darker than the melody suggests.
@@Documentoh The lyrics are about someone trying to wake up their loved one so they can spend the day with them. I don't know where you are all getting this interpretation. Because the end of the song is asking someone to wake up?
@@NicDoesDumbThings I'm getting the interpretation from how the tone of the song is way different than the lyrics.
@@NicDoesDumbThings the wording is more the singer *begging* the other person to wake up at the end, and the resignation of "you're never going to wake up, maybe i'll go to sleep too" that's giving people the idea that this song is darker than it seems on the surface. i don't know if it was the intended interpretation, but the lyrics do seem to clash with the upbeat tone of the song
There's something so depressing about Kiryu singing such a happy song all alone.
Then you look at the translated lyrics and realize that this song is like, the most depressing one of all of them. Bakamitai may SOUND depressing, but while it's basically just about a breakup, this song's about (spoiler character goes here) being in a coma, and the last line of the song is just straight up contemplating suicide over it.

@@dragonofyorha you can't really compare Haruka to Majima lmao. I love Majima, he's great but Haruka has always been at Kiryu side the whole time even when Kiryu try to distance himself from her. To say Kiryu lost his purpose in life is not an exaggeration as depicted in this song's lyrics
considering kiryu already lost so many people
@@GamerConnoisseurRei I think they are referring to the fact that Majima was willing to fight Saejima to the death to protect Haruka at the end of Yakuza 5.
Majima even states that he knows Kiryu loves Haruka more than his (Kiryu) life itself. The fact that Majima was willing to die or potentially kill his brother for Haruka and Kiryu speaks volumes about him.

Don't mind me, I'm just over here interpreting this as a song about a dad wanting to go boating with his son on a weekend, but he's in heavy sleep so the dad, after failing to wake him up, decides to take a nap too
Honestly, that'd how I interpret it too. People take this song to directly be related to the characters and the story, but what's important to remember is that the characters don't write these songs. There are some direct relations, but for example Majima wouldn't want to turn the world into a harem-paradise for himself anyway, so there are discrepancies when you look at the songs too close to the characters.
Parallels can be made and sometimes it's good, but this song to me at least is about a dad who tries to take his child or significant other on a trip in the beautiful summer, but the child or SO wants to nap/rest instead and while initially, the dad keeps asking them to come with him, he eventually decides "ah, f@ck it. I'll take a nap too." That way, it's much more about being close to those you love instead of running around in the beauty of sunshine, choosing to nap with your loved ones instead of going out alone and that's actually pretty heartwarming.
I know that the other interpretation is pretty solid too. (The one about Haruka and her [SPOILER].) But to me, this isn't a song about Kiryu and his desperate situation. This is a happy song about summer and Kiryu sings it that way because he runs with the mood, not necessarily connecting it to his own misery.
Hmm....i didnt tought about it that way until you made that point and you know, that would help me listen to this song and feel less depressing..or trying to the song woudl still get me in the feels.

This song has the exact same feeling I had when I listened to « Shiwase nara ii y’a » for the first time by Majima.
When you listen to it it feels cheery
Or funny.
But when you look up the lyrics
It’s a bakamitai moment
Best way to describe it!
I felt the same pain in both songs
Not necessarily. Shiawase Nara is sad when you directly relate it to Majima's story, but it's generally a song about loving someone so much that their happiness matters more to you than the ability to be with them. It applies to his situation to Makoto, but it's important to remember that Majima didn't write the song, he just takes it as being related to his own life and sings it as such. But basically, the song itself is about a man who loves a woman so much, he's put everything into making her happy, even above his own happiness and that's actually pretty heartwarming.
Same thing with Kiryu. If you take the sleeping person to be Haruka and the singer to be literally Kiryu, it makes sense that this song is sad, but two things are very important: 1) Kiryu didn't write this song, nor was it written for him, so the immediate connection to his misery is shaky and 2) Kiryu can sing this from the start of this game, even before he learns about what happened to Haruka. If you remember, Hands only becomes available AFTER he gets a hold of Haruto. To me this means the song isn't necessarily about the desperate situation they are in and while it can be interpreted that way to fit, it's not the only valid way. Sleep isn't always death is what I'm saying.
My alternate interpretation is that the singer is a dad or husband who is trying to invite his son/daughter/significant other to have a fun day in the beautiful summer with him. The other person wants to sleep all day and rest instead, so the singer laments this, ultimately deciding to stay in and nap together with his beloved. That way, this song is about spending time with those important to you even if it means not going out and doing things, just napping together.
I like mine better, pardon my french. :D
@@darklord884 the lyrics "If you're Not gonna Wake Up then i'll guess i sleep too" doesn't sound happy no matter how you interpreted it because who the hell sleep with their son/daughter/wife/husband when they failed to wake Them up

@@Bobamiruku I feel like this thread is going to be flooded with jojo fans but...
Jolyne would've experienced much more dangers throughout her childhood if Jotaro stayed with the family
@@Bobamiruku The difference between Jotaro and Jolyne's relationship and Kiryu and Haruka's relationship is that with Jotaro and Jolyne, Jotaro's absence only benefitted the both of them. Yes, Jolyne acted out and developed issues that lasted until young adulthood, but if she were with Jotaro, her life would have been in real danger. Jotaro's lack of presence gave Jolyne opportunities to grow. She became strong without him.
On the other hand, Kiryu and Haruka cannot be separated unless you want to bring both of them to their lowest points. Kiryu basically entered a depression and became nearly dysfunctional when he left Haruka in Y5, and Haruka became directionless - a downgrade compared to what they are when they're with each other. To add to that, Kiryu is more than capable of protecting Haruka under any circumstance within the Yakuza universe, unlike Jotaro who has to deal with the possibility of facing someone whose Stand is stronger than his.
