I'm obsessed with this guy's demo's... I've learned more about techniques watching his presentations than hours and hours of watching other videos about lighting. And what a fun model Marissa is !
Once again, a really honest, smart tutorial. Daniel and Marissa work great together, and oh my goodness she is beautiful, which makes this much easier to watch😎
I love gray backgrounds. I got some nice Godox color filters for my Godox v1. That really takes the creativity to my next level. I got inspired by the brooklyn gobo. I think i am going to craft some myself. thanks guys.
Gray background is easy. It's a dream. I'd love to see a similar video on working in a homes studio with a yellowish pinkish shade wall, or a pale olive, and1 strobe.
I love the humor you do crack me up, been watching On Set for a couple of years now and its a great learning experience which is lost these days on UA-cam.
A whole lot to learn here, and it was open and honest, not scripted education. Stuff you would pay a lot of money to some half photogs that care more about educating you on how great they are. Daniel and Adorama is not like that or those guys. Thanks for the free learning and I'm not at all sure who disliked this video. Wasn't me.
Marissa is CUTE! 40 Years I worked in Theatre & TV in NYC, I NEVER saw such a SLOPPY production! Well done though, it is refreshing to see something real and not over produced....Thanks for the laughs.
Daniel and Marissa a great team, I love watching your videos. great help for me as an amateur photographer. I really appreciate it and don't stop making videos. I will come for a visit when i come to New York. thank you again...
Great video again! You‘re a great teacher and Marissa is a really beautiful model. So it‘s every time a pleasure to watch these videos. Thank you, Marissa, Seth and all the other guys!
I like that up-down lighting concept. Definitely could be a thing someday, call it the “Norton Effect”. Cheers to the wonderful Marisa. Love and learn from all the videos.
The dream team, Marisa, Daniel and Mr Seth. I love Marisa's outfit in this video. She just get''s prettier and prettier. Daniel and Seth more studly. :) This will sound arrogant and I don't mean it too but I have been a professional pro tog for 33 years and I still enjoy watching the chemistry here. Also had my own studio for 25 years, wish we had some of these goodies when I started. Now days it's only your creativity holding you back, they now have a tool or accessory for every job, we had to DIY a lot. Good job guys (golf clap).
My sister was a model for Willamina for many years. Because of that I have seen many models through the years my sister was active and I must admit Melissa is a beautiful model with an awesome personality I wish her the best of luck. Also your photography skills are outstanding and I've learned so much from watching your videos. The only problem is that I now have gas gear acquisition syndrome and my credit card balances are rising quickly.
So much good knowledge conveyed in a straight forward method with humor. Daniel and Marissa make a great team. Thanks, I learned a great deal from this session.
Thank's Marissa and Daniel, so'ooo much info in a fun and informative format. Daniel impart's so much knowledge without you even realising your learning. Totally awsome.
I really enjoyed this one! The switch over at the end to your "up-down lighting" style was great - I liked watching you think through it. Shows me I'm not craze when I'm working things through.
Light modifier shape also determines the shape of the the catch lights in their eyes as well. The rectangular softbox might be more useful in constrained environments or if you wanted that particular shape, but I have a studio the same size as in this video and use a 120 parabolic. I find it more versatile than smaller boxes - you can always move the light or turn it up or down, but you can't make it bigger than the maximum diameter ✌️
I was confused till I watched this excellent video again. He kept the modeling light on to keep her pupils constricted not dilated. Just a slip in words. I brought this up to clear up any confusion.
I want that shirt Daniel ....or one just like it! I'll check on Amazon to see if it's still available in my size. Just watched started watching this video. Great so far . Thanks 👍☺️
Your videos are absolutely fantastic I love your channel. So today I took a ambient light reading in my basement where my equipment is set up and I got 1.8 out of 30th of a second. I then set my ISO to 64 which is the native ISO for my Nikon Z9. I set my godox AD 200 Pro to full power and took a shot on a large soft box and got f8. When I went back to my camera and set it to 200 which is the symc speed for my Nikon Z9 and set the aperture to f8 when I took the picture it was black. First problem is when I look through my camera how can I focus on my subject since when I look through the camera all I see is black and I can't focus on the subject. Nikon Z9 has a feature called starlight which lets me see in the dark so that I could focus. When I took the picture with the flash the image came out but it looked a little bit dark even though I metered properly. Is in the exposure compensation in capture One I was able to make it look decent but your videos always talk about getting it right in the camera. What am I doing wrong
Towards the end you were shooting Marissa pretty low and you said you wanted to not shoot so low. I thought the power of the low shot was perfect to show strength in the scene. When you moved back up it just killed the effect of power. Giving some ideas for a shoot with a couple friends from work. :)
Really amazing video, learn so much from this one! I have one about the background does it needs to be a Neutral grey, darker or lighter one any idea? What gives you the best result?
"Marisa's new show starts next week" Hilarious comment ...and why Daniel is SIMPLY THE BEST. btw I'd watch the Marisa show ANYTIME- she is also THE BEST. (together they are unbeatable)
He's using a DSLR and the OVF isn't affected by exposure, so it looks the same no matter the exposure settings. An EVF on a mirrorless camera does change with exposure but most should have some kind of constant preview that makes it bright enough to see when shooting with flash.
Thank you, Daniel, Marisa, and Seth. Always a pleasure, and always something to learn! And... Not super-important, but curious: I was happy to be able to catch this stream live, but noticed on this saved version that all my comments were deleted (in both "Top chat" and "Live chat") Did I make a comment that seemed out of line to someone?
I don't understand why you have the head attached to the C-stand extension arm with the stud instead of connecting it to the other side of the extension arm. The head itself has an angle adjustment on it already.
52:11 This is "Venom-the-symbian" version of Marissa. But, even in this version She's kinda cute. It must be a charm to work with her, so beautifull, so adorable. And even more adorable in the "Avatar state" 1:12:30 Great work Daniel.
Thanks again for the video... I'm in the process of setting up mobile studio and found that seamless paper is great, but doesn't travel well. I'm thinking of getting some sort of muslin background, which I could fold up and stuff into a bag. I could move it around more easily than a long roll of seamless paper. Is there any disadvantage to this idea? Thanks again....KB.
Adorama - This man is worth his weight in gold!
Considering the confined space and the limited gear used, this is one of the best lighting seminar I’ve seen. Really, really good!
I'm obsessed with this guy's demo's... I've learned more about techniques watching his presentations than hours and hours of watching other videos about lighting. And what a fun model Marissa is !
I know this is late, but I just found this video. I loved it! Thank you Daniel and Adorama.

Thanks!
Yeah, Daniel Rocks👍
Great teacher and his sense of humor is the best. Keeps you engaged.
Daniel is a seriously good teacher. Decent pace and instruction. The detailed explanations on all aspects is top notch.
Has to be my favorite On Set episode. Daniel, Seth and Marisa make magic!
I love gray backgrounds. I got some nice Godox color filters for my Godox v1. That really takes the creativity to my next level. I got inspired by the brooklyn gobo. I think i am going to craft some myself. thanks guys.
One of the best I've seen hands down. Excellent. Thank you so much for this valuable information.
He is always one of the best at teaching and talking about photography.
Simply a creative genius at work. Entertaining as much as he is inspiring!! Daniel you have made me your fan
Awesome seminar! Love how he gets so much into detail with multiple shots/examples. One of the best videos I've seen thus far!
This is the greatest video I've seen. I was watching the video practicing all the methods at the same time. WOW! Thanks so much!
A great job, congratulations to all the participants.-
Off script is magic, every time. Love the "underwater" images 😍
Thanks!
Excellent - thoroughly enjoyed the candid way you presented this workshop.
Gray background is easy. It's a dream. I'd love to see a similar video on working in a homes studio with a yellowish pinkish shade wall, or a pale olive, and1 strobe.
Love these seminars online.
Excellent Master Class. I'm impressed !
Great masterclass. Absolutely love how creative yet simple Daniel's work can be.
I have learnt so much from this, the last images have a real game of thrones look. Amazing as usual team!
I love the humor you do crack me up, been watching On Set for a couple of years now and its a great learning experience which is lost these days on UA-cam.

If all subjects had such an adorable personality everyone would want to shoot portraits! Nice demo.
Hi Daniel, wow you really worked hard to get the shot, superb. Marissa you were the main component along withh Seth what a team.
Thanks

Great video ! Love you both Daniel and Marisa
Great tutorial... congratulations & thanks for sharing
Awesome! would love to see more of this Photographer! great and funny!
Great workshop! Learn a lot, many ideas

Marissa est charmante et très positive, je l'adore !
1:29:27 - this is why you stay to the end: gorgeous shot!
I enjoy the tutorial and the humor associated with it.
Very interesting and thought provoking.
Great class. I LOVE those accending shots at the end. 🙌🏾
As always I enjoyed watching. Thank you Daniel & crew. Greetings from The Netherlands 🇳🇱!
Daniel is awesome anyhow, with or without a code. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
A great video and I learnt a lot too.
You have been missed, mr Norton 👍😀
The up-down lighting setup shall forever be known as the 'bo-rap' lighting setup - totally awesome
that does seem a cooler name
you are an amazing teacher, Thanks
Thanks Marissa!
Awesome Crew! Great video!
I want that shirt Daniel ....or one just like it! I'll check on Amazon to see if it's still available in my size. Just watched started watching this video. Great so far . Thanks 👍☺️
the Up Down technique is great
I love this. Thank you! Very helpful

I do love Dan's simplicity. Great learning. Thank you
Best 95 minutes I've lived today. Thanks guys this was wicked.
Marissa has become the honorary little sister to hundreds of photographers... :)
This was incredible.
Amazing, thankyou

Who is the nice looking model with the outstanding personality?
Gorgeous model
Dude I want one of those T-shirts! So EPIC!! =P
Cant believe this was free
Awesome model
I love Daniels t-shirt
"Marisa's new show starts next week" Hilarious comment ...and why Daniel is SIMPLY THE BEST. btw I'd watch the Marisa show ANYTIME- she is also THE BEST. (together they are unbeatable)
Wow. Amazing.
when shooting the model how do you see the model if the camera is set to dark to get rid of ambient light great tutorial by the way thank you

Not at all Mike something’s out of wack
@@Adorama Good! (No bigee... Just checking.) Thanks.
Great vid 👍
great show!
I use black paper background, spray primer design on it then light it with colored gels and a background strobe.
I have only a newer vision 4 battery powered strobe&softbox grey background
I don't understand why you have the head attached to the C-stand extension arm with the stud instead of connecting it to the other side of the extension arm. The head itself has an angle adjustment on it already.
As we know, we ALSO get paid by the number of extensions we use.

"kinda cute", that's an understatement 😉😉
Who was the assistant/digital tech? He is great!
Koko Hunt that’d be me 😜 you can find some of my videos on Adorama as well

Flawless, Great Job Team..
I dig the shirt
Fantastic!
Curious, back in film days, how would they have done the equivalent of the black frame in the beginning
By using a flash and ambient light meter, making sure the ambient lighting is 2 to 3 stops below the flash lighting.
Mark Wallis is amazing, i love his passion when hi talks and the so much positivity 😁😁
