  • What's the difference? It's a very common question that we get asked with our customers looking to choose between the La Marzocco GS3 and the Linea Mini. In this video we answer that question in a side by side comparison.
    At their core the GS3 is modeled off it's big sister the La Marzocco Strada and the Linea Mini is modeled from the La Marzocco Linea Classic. In the video Luke tells you which machine he thinks suits an espresso drinker and which machine suits a person who prefers milk based coffee.
    We hope you enjoy the video and it helps you make a more informed decision if you are looking to purchase one of these machines.

      It can handle it, you just have to ensure you have good filtered water. Also the group head is low so you can’t do 16oz takeaway coffee easily. A trailer is slower than a cafe, so it will give great quality, but may under the pump run low on steam

    Both are amazing machine but there some things that La Marzocco Linea Mini is better: first the steaming is more powerful and stable (some Baristas call the Beast Machine), second the Mini is better repeatable amazing coffee shots (in 9 BARS), third the cost of the ownership is way less on Mini. I made this research for months and end with Mini, now have the preinfusion option (plumb in) with 3 BARS for few seconds and then up to 9 BARS. Last, the design of Mini for me looks better.

The GS3 base is $9500 US for the manual! I think GS3 can only do flow profiling instead of the pressure profiling. The pedal controls the water flow via the needle valve. Small flow means the pressure is going to be built up slower.

    • @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters
      @ArtistiCoffeeRoasters  2 роки тому

      The needle is a bypass valve, all coffee machines start at 1 bar then go up to 9 bar, there is a moment in the water hitting the puck that has to make back pressure to then build up in the puck and group handle. Then it will be bypassed at the pressure you choose from the needle valve

    Probably both excellent machines. I think the mini is showing its age. It needs a timer for one thing. Yes a very insignificant item but machines half the cost have it. I have heard complaints about the temperature dial. The gauges are almost hidden. I personally believe a dial for the steam wand is not as good as a lever. It's a premium machine that should not cost as much as it does.

    • @jurgenzielmann1108
      @jurgenzielmann1108 2 роки тому +3

      Are you really staring at a pressure gauge every time you pull a shot? Are you changing the temperature fives times a day? Does changing it in the app ruin your day? Need a timer in your face because you don't use scales? Get a Rocket man, get your E61 that isn't showing it's age. Get a Bianca.

    • @penultimatename6677

      @@jurgenzielmann1108 I have an ECM Synchronika. I agree with all of your points. Except when you seem to be dismissive of the utility of my suggestions. There are the extreme modifications allowed by Decent to others that are starting to offer flow control as well as pressure and temperature changes but they are all difficult to change because they are hidden. Espresso companies appear to want to offer more user control but it all gets hidden.
      I have a scale and it will display the timer. Knowing the timer should start once the lever is pulled it makes sense to be on the PID display.
      Some of it is convenience and others have to do with giving the user more flexibility.

    • @jurgenzielmann1108
      @jurgenzielmann1108 2 роки тому +2

      There we go - the Decent card. I knew it! Well that's the good news for you, there's a Decent. Or a GS3 MP, it has a shot timer and it has a gauge almost (sorry for repeating the expression) right in your face. Or under our chin. Depends how high your machine sits, maybe a Linea could sit perfectly high enough for you to see the pressure gauge.
      Your suggestions are excellent and valid, it's what you want and I have to respect that. But leave the little Linea alone man, you're not the target audience for the machine. Saying a machine shows it's age because it doesn't have a timer for one thing is wicked.
      Don't be looking at other machines and point what they don't have or have in a way that isn't a Decent. The Linea mini does not show it's age, it's perfect for a certain type of businesses and individuals who are beyond happy pulling from anywhere from 3 to hundreds of shots daily with extreme consistency. Or maybe it indeed shows it's age in how well it ages.
      Personally I'd think the Linea Mini should have AV option available, or ABR. Hell both GS3 and Linea Mini should be available with ABR, but that costs money and would mean a whole different machine at a different price range for a whole different use case. For someone who may not want these features but would need to pay for them regardless. If you're looking for features, you need to look elsewhere. La Marzocco is highly educated and innovative company in the engineering field, they could make these exactly as you/me want, but they also know very well who these machines are for.
      We're good! We're both right, or wrong, there's a machine for everyone.

      My reason for commenting. We need good competition in order for these companies to stay relevant. I never meant to imply the Decent is the ultimate machine. I only mentioned it to say there are different levels of customization. I could make the same comment about the Synchronika. Don't mess with an excellent espresso machine. Except I hope they mess with it to keep it current. You are taking my comments as attacking your machine. That is not my intent. I hope all the top tier companies continue to innovate. I used to own a Classic and had a chance to pull shots with the Mini frequently at some point in time. It's excellent, I have not seen a domesticated machine that can do what the Mini does at a level of a Classic. The Classic didn't have a shot timer on display, it didn't really matter. That was back then, I know we're going forward but oh that nostalgic feeling of a Classic at home calls my name. I love how simple, how little there is to it yet the cup it makes so...majestic! I appreciate Decent for bringing a Decent to the people who need it. I'd be very ignorant of me dismiss people's lust for more control. I appreciate other manufacturers, but the Linea mini hits me differently that all those other machines. Anyways, I think you know what I mean...

    too fussy on water minerals. it'll choke like a princess if its not just the right balance of h2o mineralization. this sort of analism is a massive fail. my 10 yr old la scala butterfly made espresso just as good without the princessism on Linea. So pass. this mini is just for fools with more money the sense.

      Yes all new machines have smaller restrictiors in them to increase water pressures and flow, they will block up if filteration is addressed
