I grew up watching The Next Generation with my Dad. He recently passed and I ordered this subscription, to put together the ship in his memory. It's something he would have bought and done with me of it were available back then.
The idea of every month taking a day to relax and build this ship bit by bit , with a 6pack, and thinking of my Dad. That's priceless.

@ $65 a month for the 4 kits it seems decent enough for the nostalgia in your case. I used to watch this with my Dad and both of us looked at this kit and laughed. UPDATE! With Eaglemoss essentially dead it looks like many builders are going to be stuck with an incomplete model. That absolutely sucks.
Personally I gutted it out for almost a year before quitting on the build due to the appalling quality of the model. Total garbage and not worth the time or money investment.
Especially painful when I could've ordered 281 Big Macs instead.

The only thing I would say is if you were in a museum and saw the finished products on display and they let you open them up, appraise them and guess the price you would see where the money has gone. These builds are nothing like the snap kits of "airfix" kits and in a complete league of their own over things like Hot Toys and Black Series models. They are not perfect however and it's always fun to ad your own flare to the Model. Happy building. Subscribed.

Hey TrekLad, speaking of currency prices,I take it your in the UK,but for me I am in the US,and compared to your 9.99 pound, here the price has been increased to $12.95 per kit,so that comes out to $1554 without shipping, but with it at $4.95 for 4 kits per month it comes out to $594 for a whopping $2148. Now admittedly that is a chunk of change, but considering its broken down to 4 kits per month for a total of $56.75 I think that is pretty reasonable.
Now I am a little upset that it doesn't have a soundboard or an extra rod to hold the saucer section when separated, but the actual 2 sections being able to separate is just awesome. So for good points and bad,the good ones beat out the bad and overall when complete this thing should be a crown jewel in anyones collection, especially mine.
Also I kinda wish this had fewer kits or stages like 100 or even 80 to keep it around 2 years to complete instead of 30 months but its not a dealbreaker,I plan on completing this hopefully and display it in my mancave.Plus this is just HUGE and worth it.

For me I love building models, always have.
Problem is I'm not very good at painting them.
This partwork (of my fave starship of all time) is a great way for me to chill of a evening. Pour a drink, grab a snack, put on a podcast or youtube vid in the background and get building. I love it.
Quite a way through the Ecto build too now and it's looking stunning.

another concern might be: what happens if something happens to Eaglemoss, their distribution, etc?...you'll be stuck with a model you're heavily invested in (depending how far you get if anything like this happens) with no ability to complete it...i have a huge love for the ships of Star Trek, and it is pretty cool, but I find the overall cost way too high (so many other things i could use this money for)...

not only that, seems to be a lot of light bleed in the panels as the construction continues. Bit of a shame as it looks like a really nice model. Also there short on stock and many people seem to be abandoning the project due to unable to get the parts. I think the model looks fantastic, but due to shortages I wont be ordering it.

  • @hang10wannabe

The reason I decided to pull the trigger was because I've always wanted to do a project like this, it's not that bad of a hit considering it's over 2.5 years worth of effort/entertainment... but the last choice was when I saw a similarly sized pro model was on BBTS (BigBadToyStore) for over $4,000 that sold out very quickly. So at less than half that cost, seems worth it and it is a journey many others are documenting on UA-cam, so lets gooooooooooooooo! :D

You could save it and wait everything arrive to start assemble, or start assembling each set and have a huge pile of half assembled parts collecting dust or damaging in some corner of your room.

It is usually not worth it.
I currently build the Bismarck from Hachette once complete I will have paid over 2000€ and it took over 3 years to build it, I will be done in 2 month I think...
For comparison the Trumpeter Bismarck in the same scale costs about 200€. Even if you buy all the fancy add on stuff like wooden deck, etched parts, metal barrels etc. the Trumpeter is not going to cost over 500€.
And in the end the Trumpeter will be way more accurate then the Hachette could ever hope to be.
The downside is you need way more time to actually build and paint it and you need the skills and tools to do so as well.
Since I lack the later I went with Hachette knowing full well it actually is not really worth it in terms of money.
The thing is you don't really feel the bank account hit as you pay on a per month basis. As long as you have a regular decently paying job you can easily afford 50€ a month. But in terms of quality it is not worth it.

So, when I learned of this latest Eaglemoss effort, I did some checking about it, saw how much it would cost and instantly noped it.

Okay… so tonight I said to myself… I’d like to build a model. Something I could do over time. I’m a Star Trek fan. I grew up watching TNG and thought… I should build a model of the enterprise. I’ve never done this before. So… I found this. I was like… “YES!” This is exactly what I want. Then I did the match and realized my wife would killl me if I spent this kind of cash. Do you have any other suggestions? Something that doesn’t look cheap?

Its nice. Cool with the lights and all. But with the inaccuracies, its just not worth the price. At that price it needs to be perfect. Otherwise I'm good with my smaller Aoshima Enterprise-D which has lighted windows too 😉

I've subscribed to this build, went for the monthly option. First package was delayed apparently due to oversubscription, then I received an email to say that they have caught up with orders and that the UK would be caught up soon. I'm not in the UK, I'm in Ireland and every UK builder I follow on YT is at least 3 packs ahead of me, typical eaglemoss nonsense.
I'm already conflicted about the cost of this model and I hate building electronics...but it's the Enterprise D, how could I not buy it ?

So how do we get our hands on it? And could we just buy a complete kit off eBay or something?

    Be savvy,
    Wait the course,
They will no doubt do the usual sale,
Thus allowing to purchase the entire set at 25/40% discount end run.
If one does not want to feel a direct pinch,
Put magazine cost to one side, allowing to build up.

I love partworks but apart from the lights there doesn’t seem to be a lot going on, you can’t even open any ot it up, very reliant (no pun intended!) on you being a Trekkie with a lot of money 😀

I've watched probably a dozen videos on this thing in the last few days. In short, I was almost about to sign up and start building this thing and all the videos have changed my mind on that. I do not like the idea of paying shipping on 120+ small shipments versus one big one. I also do not liek what I've heard about constant delays from Eagle Moss on parts. That's before getting to my issues with the model itself. The lighting design is a couple decades out of date and the most convoluted and probably expensive way to light the model with arguably the worst results.
There are aspects of the model that should have better details, such as the bottom of the warp nacelles. At this scale, there is no reason for excluding details. Additionally, the fact this is powered by multiple separate battery compartments and different types of batteries is a travesty. Furthermore, this design adds seams for additional battery compartments and unsightly switches all over the model. At the total price of this model, these are compromises we shouldn't have to make.
It looks like tremendous fun to build and I like the scale but the design, total cost, parts availability, etc. make this a hard pass for me.

What really bugs me about it, is that this model is waaaay off scale. They promote it as the popular 1/1000 scale but it's actually pretty much 1/900. In a scale model every milimeter is important. This thing is a whopping 8cm off.

Why cannot we Trekkies loyal fans buy all parts together at once?
Why Bussard Collector has only 1 LED instead of 2 like it should be?
Is it blinking randomly to look REAL like Arduino chip can allow to?

My concern is that if I invest in this and, after 1.5 years, the company goes under or simply determines not to continue and I'm left with a pile of partially built parts. The overall cost is bad but really not the limiter for me. I simply do not trust these substitute of trickled parts over time.

I got all the way up to stage 50 and couldn't take it anymore. There is constant delays in getting the parts. Especially in the US. The kit is ridiculously over engineered and there's light leaks and pieces don't fit together properly. The entire model is powered by batteries and it's looking like it'll take around 15 of them to operate. Very poorly designed for the $2,000 price tag.
