Dear Chris, didn't Blanche get the word lesbian mixed up with the word Lebanese???!!! She said:"Isn't Danny Thomas one"? And Dorothy said:"Not Lebanese, LESBIAN." I thought that was what they said!! And then Blanche kept saying "lesbian??" over and over, until she actually remembered what a lesbian is!!! There's a lot of gay and bi people in my family, me for one, my dad's brother, my great uncle Reggie and no doubt more, but they may not have come out as gay because it was a lot more difficult to do so back in the so - called "good old days"!!! When gay men could be imprisoned for having sex together. Love from Amanda in Australia xoxoxoxox ❤
I loved GG in the 80’s. The gay/gender jokes were a plus for me. Often had a point to them, which I already knew. Love is love 💕 I would watch it at 9:00 Saturday night before going out to my favorite gay bar. Thank you. I remember “friend of Dorothy”.
The best show of all time!!!! At a time when bigots and homophobes ran wild, this show took on those bigots and showed them that being gay is perfectly acceptable. I'm gay and I loved it!!! Made me feel accepted. 😀🌈
The fact that Blanche felt some type that Jean didn’t want her but she was angry bout her brother dating a man is soooooo ironic to me 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Blanche was mad she wasn’t wanted by a woman an rose was 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣
What a great show!!! Just fantastic!!! Breaking down ridiculous barriers put up by ignorant people!! I love Sophias one liners "hes the only man who knows all the words to send in the clowns"!!! Hilarious!! "I bet he does it damn well"!!
Was Anita Bryant that really straight - laced woman in America, who ranted on about AIDS being some kind of punishment for those who sinned??? I'm asking because I've heard of her, but, being Australian, I don't know much about her.
The only missing from this show is a gay youth. They should have made Blanche’s grandson gay. I thought he was acting up because he was gay but turned out it wasn’t.
Yep the stereotypes were pretty common in the 80s, even into the 90s ( from my childhood). It was still pretty progressive, far more than many other shows that i grew up with in Australia
That was the point of the joke i thought... How ridiculous labels are, how calling yourself a lesbian in the 80s still carried negative association with it. So "image consultant" had a double meaning ????
@@shenelldixon-transformyour4237which is still under the category of label. The world is full of labels, from groceries, deparment stores, and so on. One of the best scenes ever in the show was when Blanche thought Danny Thomas was a lesbian.

Not quite- Blanche thought Dorothy said “Lebanese”, when she actually said “lesbian”. You got it backwards.
“Now look here, stretch!” 😂😂😂😭😂
Golden Girls is still progressive as hell
It absolutely is. This was made with love.
I absolutely love Dorothy especially when she says "THE HOME"

I don't know but in some little moments I have the feeling that blanche maybe had a little crush on Rose

“I don’t really know, but I will ask her when I visit her at The Home”. LOL 😂😅
Ill ask her tomorrow when I visit her at the HOME
I swear Blanche and Dorothy must be bi 😧
Blanche not being shocked at Jean being a lesbian but more shocked she was into Rose over her was absolutely hilarious. 😂😂😂😂
Good morning sombody out there,
Some of these comments did not pass the vibe check
Storylines were generally sensitively handled but at other times the stereotyping can be a little grating.
Yeah. For it's time, it was daring, but it was still the 80's.
