@@FlowVFM What about all-season tires? Just asking because they're my typical preference (I don't own a Subaru BTW, although I'm considering getting one someday).
@@PKMNFan4664 I would say that depends a lot on the wheather you have in your area and most of them are good but I just prefer to have mine in two sets. Summer tires for summer conditions above 10°C (7 month, in my area) and winter tires for winter conditions season below -5°C (5 month in my area)
Man... If I had known other people like watching stuff like this I would have started recording a long time ago. The stuff I have done in my Loyal, outback, impreza 2.5s, and wrx makes this look like cruising on Sunday in Florida. great videos though. Keep'm coming.
I'm thinking of getting a forester as my first car, this video helped a lot by showing me what they were capable of (provided you have it appropriately equiped).
Thanks. Forester's are no different than the same year WRX's. Just a different, boxier body is all. Everything from the WRX or STI bolt straight onto a Forester, it's freaking great!
I always instal my winter tires (Michelin x ice) by late November on my 4x4 frontier. And I live on the west coast of Canada and don't generally get much white stuff, but the winter tires make a big difference, even in the rain. Driving skills play a big part also.
I actually didn't think you would notice my comment...my little heart almost skipped a beat....seriously this is crazy and so am I(in a good way) now my goal is to meet you one day:-)
Very glad I found your channel! I just bought a Forester today for the express purpose of wheeling, I actually had no idea it was so capable! I know what a difference tires make and the only reason that red one even moved was because of how impressively the Subaru’s AWD system distributes the power, it looked like all 4 wheels spun most the time.
We had a Subaru when we lived in Colorado. Mounted Hakkapeliitta studded snow tires and they beat every other possible tires in snow and ice. Best tires ever on a Subaru.
Ha Ha! This has been me SO MANY TIMES! I made a video of what 10 things to keep in your car for winter driving like this. Great work getting out of there.
you prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my login password. I would love any tricks you can give me
Wow! That looks fun! We went on our first off-road trip today (OK, it was a total bunny slope,) and we loved how it drove! I'll never try most of the things that you guys do, but it's fun to watch what the car CAN do with a far more gutsy driver.
Rami Fef Getting stuck is the fun part! Was in some deeper stuff a couple weeks ago, and the car took it brilliantly, but didn't have the camera. That's also how I managed to jack up my reverse gear.
Just a note SPINNING TIRES DOES NOT MAKE TRACTION. Just let the tire pressure down to about 8 pounds and it will walk around just like snow shoes. You must have a portable air pump on board which are cheep any way. Letting the pressure down will flatten the foot print and if you don't spin the tires you will have all the traction you will need. Your auto does have 4 wheel drive and it will do very well. Just try it. I know I have been an off roader for 40 years. Sand, mud, and snow. Low tire pressure works on all it it. But when you get back on the highway you need to air them up to normal. Have fun off road. Best to you.
Roger Pacific I've tried that in this car, doesn't really work as well as people say. Spinning the tires allows the tires to dig through the snow, and get down to the dirt/gravel underneath. These specific tires don't air down on snow very well either, as I've also tried that in various situations and it never seemed to help.
Arnar Már Ólafsson As I've said, I've aired them down on snow many times, and it doesn't make a difference big enough to justify the time needed to do it, where I could just rock the vehicle a bit and power out.
First day I had my 2012 Fozzy 2.5 5 speed standard it snowed like craazy Had to drive home 300 Km after I picked it up 2 traffic jams and plenty of snow We got very introduced to each other lol
Buy a Honda CRV Model 2 (2002 - 2006). You will have 4WD automatically if needed. Very good in snow, with winter tires, of course.. And you get a hidden camping table in the trunk..
I agree..I had a Leone-87,and that car had FWD,and when I get stucked,I pushed a button on gear shift knob, and then it turned to 4WD,and my Leone was going the same difficult way with summer tyres!! Even Subaru salesmen says that older Subarus were better!!!
+Martin Smith And Weight of the Vehicle, I have AT and a Snow machine in my truck and i have traction take out the snow machine and i cant move a fucking inch.
Trent Nelson lol True that but now you are getting into the science of lbs per square inch. Narrow tires perform better in the on road snow. More weight equals better traction. The wider your tires the more weight you will need to get a set amount of traction. Too many people don't realize that. They think their 325 50 R 19 tires are the best thing since sliced bread. Till they get in snow that is. ;) Personally I like my LT 235 85R16 winter tires. Those work very well. Turns that hard packed snow into gravel traction.
Winter comes I keep a Come-along-hoist, snow shovel, military folding spade, axe, fifteen meters of rope, skid mats, a proper blanket, some noodles and a camping stove. Also a small air compressor, when you get stuck lower tyre pressure a bit.
wow! I haven't tried mine in the snow yet. Just bought it this year and seeing this is really encouraging. My first awd vehicle ever. It's automatic though. Sick of a stick, but seeing you unstuck yourself that easy makes me doubt my decision haha! Nice video thanks for sharing.
Would have been an even better example if I had actual siped snow tires on. But the BFGs do decent enough in snow, at least for the first year or two. Once they start wearing they’re pretty crap.
@@ModFoz I run TA KO2's on my truck. Just put on a new set after 60,000 miles. We get a lot of snow and they have been great. Agressive tread but not noisy.
NISANZ They most certainly are. They are rated for severe weather and have the snowflake on the sidewall. The tires weren't my problem, Moreso ending up in the ditch.
@@ModFoz No they are not, the snowflake means they are approved winter tire NOT good snow tire, proper winter tires are WAY better than Allterrain tire!
@@UpInSmoke54 I agree that dedicated winter tires (such as a Blizzak or Hakkappelitta) is a much better choice. But running a winter-rated all-terrain tire is a much better choice than a standard non-winter rated all-season tire. Ive been running winter-rated all-terrain tires for the past 10 years on this car in Colorado and they’ve worked fine. Not as good as dedicated winters, but I have dedicated winters on my other car. I take the Forester out in primarily deep snow as the all-terrains dig well, as some of my past videos have shown.
Never needed it. I saw the clear path behind and the fact that it is a manual transmission (easier to rock in) and said to myself "that ain't stuck yet".
Shelby Roderfeld Not really. I knew the car was going to slide into the ditch when I parked it on the side of the road (I even say it in the video), I was impressed it managed to get it self out though. If you're not getting stuck, you aren't pushing it hard enough.

Hey Josh, Sweet video with the Forester. Your car definitely does a nice job in the snow. Your buddy needs to get a set of the BFG's on his rig. I need to get my rig setup like your one day soon!!!
bluefox4848 Here in the UK they are still a rare car. The £ to Yen is rubbish then also there is the import tax of 20% on top. So they are over twice the price of a similar age 2.5XT model. Which is also a fast car to 60mph.Yes it is a big project but it is possible to do. I've seen on UA-cam American car mechanics converting XT to STI. The 6 speed manual box is a lot of fun on these STI's!
Watching this in 2019 love watching your videos I make me want to trade in my 2014 Subaru legacy sedan for a forester or outback and take it offroading
+Tracey Allen My thoughts exactly. The traction control can't do it's job when you're on and off the throttle like that. A steady pressure would have been better than that rocking crap he was doing.
+TheWeakKnights Traction control was never equipped and never an option on Forester's until 2007. Please educate yourself before you start criticizing he methods of which people self-rescue their vehicles. The "rocking" you saw is in fact the proper way to unstuck a vehicle with or without traction control (in fact, most off road drivers turn off traction control as it interferes with the tried and true methods of getting unstuck)
Well I see this video is six years old but if you guys still check out and read your comment section look up like a 2006 2009 Subaru outback with a lift kit. After seeing some pictures of one I can’t wait to do it to mine they look freaking bad ass
HOW DID YOU GET OUT OF THERE other cars would be left to die there but a trusty ol Forester can get out of there just fine on its own, what a wonderful car!

I just bought a white 05 forester xt today with 135,999 miles and i love it ! hope to see more awesome vids bluefox keep it up ! :D
+Chris Stone I will, as soon as the engine is back in the car!
I know you had an accident with the 04, is your 05 alright ?
+Chris Stone No compression in cylinder 2. Most likely from a pre-detonation event. Just pulled the engine earlier this evening. Will tear into it tomorrow and hopefully just need to replace a piston and not the block.
Aww man I hope all goes well bud !
4WDでもサマータイヤだとこうなるww
冬用タイヤ、またはオールシーズン用タイヤでさえ、地形をよりよく処理できたでしょう。
My old-school 4WD Subi had chains all around and NEVER got stuck :)
Alan Yelvington Because Chains.
Hey Josh,
Sweet video with the Forester. Your car definitely does a nice job in the snow. Your buddy needs to get a set of the BFG's on his rig. I need to get my rig setup like your one day soon!!!
Hi! I like it.Must have Forester. But in Poland no snow this winter.Happy new 2016 year.
looks like fun ! good job getting out!
Thanks, was a ton of fun (especially since I got out). If I didn't get out.......well.......not so fun.
I can not believe you drove out of that! Amazing!
I love the tuning of the red Subaru
We just got a silver forester with a sunroof, and they are amazing cars.
SnowflakeGaming That they are.
The black forester is like my dream car
Funny and joyful. Adding tire chain s on the car is a direct solution.
Nice video. I've got BFG M/T KM2s on my Jeep, was thinking about getting BFG A/Ts for the Forester. This video may help convince my wife......
LOVE the sound of that TURBO - my next subi will have the turbo......
OH CRAP when that thing started tilting I clinched. Good going dudes!
:)
You clinched?! Lol. I damn near ripped the leather right off the seat!
I would like to thank the UA-cam gods for hurling me into Forester UA-cam again
The Forester. Good practicable fun cars! I'm lucky enough to have two versions. A XT & a Sti!
Mark Guest A Forester STi is my dream car, hopefully I can re-create one over here in the states one of these days.
bluefox4848 Here in the UK they are still a rare car. The 6 speed manual box is a lot of fun on these STI's!
with a dirty all terrain this ? good the black car !!! you have a very good car !
thumbs up from me for being so bold and risky ;) you crazy guys
Watching this in 2019 love watching your videos I make me want to trade in my 2014 Subaru legacy sedan for a forester or outback and take it offroading
I enjoyed every video on this channel I hope you guys make a lot more very soon.
Our Subaru's are great for everything!
Yeah those all summer tires are just not going to cut it going uphill like that.
I just got new Bridgestone's on mine for the 3 days of snow we just had toss you a line from the UK if I could ha ha ha great fun
I want more of these videos! I just got me a 2011 Legacy (2.5i Limited, not the 3.6, haha ahh well!) and I love it!
Thank god you had those bfg's on each corner...
That turbo spool sounds cool.
It's an angry car.
Some times trying not to spin works better. Oh yeah and a shovel. Good video. Miss my old legacy.
After seeing some pictures of one I can’t wait to do it to mine they look freaking bad ass
glad you made it out..whoah!
Pucker factor for sure.
Well the good news is now I know some limits to what my new 2015 Forster might be able to do.
HOW DID YOU GET OUT OF THERE other cars would be left to die there but a trusty ol Forester can get out of there just fine on its own, what a wonderful car!
I had a blast watching this! Nice subis!
I backed mine into a drainage ditch in arkansas while backing up and the front end went up in the air and i told my wife.."LEAN FORWARD" and when the front end came back down and hit ground I floored it and popped out....lol.
