I had a fiancé about 12 years ago. She got into WoW and after a year or so of playing it nonstop she moved in with some guy she met on the game. Then 4 months later calls me and says she wants to come home. Never married her. Made me pretty upset about my whole life and relationship decisions.

My girlfriend cheated on me for 2 months with some guy she started playing WoW with and the f**ked up part about this whole deal was one of her other friends that she has been playing with since she started playing WoW hooked her with this guy . I was devastated we had our own house for a year and half, our son was just about to turn 1 year old, we was gonna get marred this year .

I would say that the internet in general, along with gaming, watching Netflix, social media etc., has contributed a lot to myself and others being a homebody and not going out and socializing as much or missing out on other experiences.

I understand what you're saying, but my experience was a little different. I played casually during Wrath, and started a friendship with a guildmate during the final stretch of that expansion. We ended up getting married. I moved to Texas with her and we played Cata and MoP pretty regularly. Then we started having kids. There was simply no time for WoW anymore. We're still happily married, and talk about missing the game occasionally. I think we'll try Cataclysm Classic when it comes around now that our kids can feed themselves and wipe their own asses.

I play a lot of video games, was born in 84, had several systems growing up as well. My currently most played game and most addicting game is Binding Of Isaac....Still haven't even gotten close to unlocking everything. I don't play it as much as I used too but I still clock in a few runs every week, the game just never seems to get old.

One of my friends was really into City of Heroes. So much so, that she had to leave my birthday party to play. She also ended up cheating on her husband with some dudes she met on CoH.
Hilariously, the people that introduced her to that game ended up migrating to WoW. And those people ended up working for Blizzard.
As for me, I stopped playing wow when I realized, much like Fanta, that I was missing out on all of the other games that were being released. World of Warcraft requires such an insane commitment that I started jokingly referring to each upcoming expansion as "The Next Time Sink." Which would also double as a concept for a new epic mount.

Started, I think back in 2005 after coming across the Leeroy Jenkins video. I don't regret it due to the memories but the game now just doesn't have the same feel for me. I can't get back into it even on classic sadly. Stopped playing after Legion.
I remember finally logging in to Northshire Valley and lagging like crazy. Had to not only upgrade my computer but the internet as well.
Would start playing with real life friends and end up blowing passed them in levels. Definitely good memories for me.

I like WoW and have been playing on and off since 2006. It can melt away days and nights quickly with how much there is to do/catch up on. I mainly pvp and collect things, but it is getting pricey for what essentially is a collection simulator. If Guild Wars 3 comes out, I'll probably quit and go with that. F2P with the occasional DLC should be the way.

What you said is very true that it was like losing friends to drugs. I've lost friends to both drugs and WoW. And its crazy how similar they were. Except one was committing petty theft for their next fix. Where the WoW addict would only work to have money for internet for WoW. And although the drug addict is gone now, i wouldn't be surprised if the WoW addict is gone to. He really let himself go and was on the fast track to a heart attack

I enjoyed WoW until I got priced out. I would do Black Friday deals in order to be able to afford the next to latest expansion which would only be $5, but then greed took over and they stopped doing that offer. I miss the game, but I'm fine not playing it because there are so many games in my backlog, not to mention the workplace environment that has come to light and the "Do you guys not have phones?!" incident. They have lost the shine that made them great and now I don't touch Blizzard games anymore.

The bottom line is did you have more fun when you played the game or not. It sounds like you're saying you had more fun not playing the game but if you are lying to yourself because of some percieved social expectation, then that means your friends who enjoyed the game are more honest with themselves than you are.

I've been playing WoW my entire life. Currently Blizzard run WoW servers do suck, both classic and retail. Both have cash shops, both have WoW tokens and the ability to buy gold, p2w elements, cosmetics to buy with real money, etc. and yeah it's pretty trash. People are saying eventually that the WoW sub will be a part of the Xbox game pass when Microsoft acquires Activision Blizzard, but we will see if that actually happens. If you look at retail as a separate game which it basically is at this point it's not terrible you can ignore it since you can play that game solo way more than you can with classic, the current expansion is definitely the best one they've had since I'd say MoP but it's still not as good as Vanilla, BC, or Wrath, not even close. However what they've done with classic is pretty unforgiveable in terms of the microtransactions and p2w. The Hardcore scene is blowing up if you've seen that at all, basically just vanilla WoW with 1 life, if you die your character perma dies. It's cool and all but not super great for casuals.
If you ever think about getting back into the game, the best experience right now imo is Turtle WoW which is a private server and actually has the same cross faction talking you had on the private server you played on in the past. It's the biggest vanilla private server to ever exist 12k online at peak time with like a 5k queue, has custom content and a bunch of tastefully made stuff, I won't sell out too much for it but I'd recommend checking it out if you ever get the WoW itch again, and since it's a private server it's free ofc. I wouldn't worry about losing your character either it seems like it's here to stay and it's hosted in a region where Blizzard can't just go and shut them down. But anyways enjoyed the video, been subbed since around tales from retail started keep it up.

WoW was designed, on purpose, to get u addicted and to keep u playing ONLY WoW for as long as possible with as much FoMo as they can possibly throw at u... It's part of the core design elements of WoW and a core philosophy of Blizzard as a whole. It's why it's in the top 5 most toxic games in gaming and Blizzard is arguably one of the worst companies in gaming in general (just behind Microsoft imo).
Even though i play a multitude of mmo's and have been since the mid 90's (yes, i'm old and in my mid 40's lol) it's easy to see FFXIV passed WoW as the #1 mmo on the market back in 2015... almost a decade ago now. Their Heavensward Expansion is better than anything WoW has ever put out and it's FF's THIRD best expansion. Feel free to give it a try... The free trial gives u the base game of ARR, the Heavensward expansion AND now the Stomblood expansion with ZERO restrictions on playtime all the way up to lvl 70! And the best part... it RESPECTS your time as a gamer and encourages u to take breaks and play other games which is a super healthy attitude for a game developer imo :) If u do try it, it has LOADS of both streaming and UA-cam content for literally YEARS if u take in everything the game has to offer.

Every form of medium can be addictive, you got your shooters, GTA's and damm even FIFA got peeps hooked. But heres the issue. My take, should've made friendships and relationships around the game based on your views and values. I've met many dads around the world be it WoW or Destiny and what not, putting time for their families and games. Another medium is tapletop and TCG's, gotta coordinate the time and the people for game sessions. Got a buddy who meets up twice a year for a DnD campaign set over 3 day ls a piece. All in all what ever you value in your life you'll find other players whom you can game with that wont be affected by things you've listed.

He had no real life friends or interests outside of the game, building a relationship with him was a struggle for about a year. He was really emotionally unavailable and emotionally immature. Ill never forget how difficult it was getting close to him and how painful it was for me. This game was his crutch to avoid real people and real life. Eventually he got better but sadly the relationship ended. Although we stayed friends for a decade or so. When i hear anything about this game, it makes me really sad.
