Fun fact about that assassin attack: what exactly triggers it is one of the few things about Classic that players still haven't figured out *to this day*. I once fell down a rabbit hole of wanting to get it to happen on an alt, doing my own experiments on a quiet Classic era server that involved logging back and forth between different characters to see whether anything was happening in town after taking certain actions elsewhere in the zone, but none of the different theories I'd read seemed to work. Pretty impressive honestly!
I just adored this zone as a female undead priest. The undead is a beautifully drawn up race in wow. Tirisfal, Silverpine, and Hillsbrad were like the holy undead trinity of levelling zones. Undead for life ❤🧟
dude that comment about the great wars lining up with the wc games was so enlightening for me, having never played them. always gotten the great wars confused and that was an incredibly eloquent way to break it down. thank you, great video
I'll never forget the world PVP at Southshore, Horde attacking us at the flight point, me calling 10+ guildies to all land at the same time. Golden memories.
Hillsbrad and the constant alliance raids of the Crossroads made me realize that their might be a reason why so many hordie are so aggressive against aliiance to the point they'll make the journey towards Darkshire and Redridge just to gank.
When you do Alterac, please don't forget to include Dire Maul was almost the Ruins of Alterac. I like the more varied Eldrethalas a lot, though I guess you could have had 2 wings for the demons and undead of Eldrethalas and Dire Maul Ogre Side being its own dungeon in Alterac.
i'm playing wow for the first time in my life (started with sod) - i just ran through the arathi highlands and discovered the hillsbrad foothills and i've never been struck by such beauty in a video game
Love this video and the walk down memory lane. Some of these AI lore videos have their place and all, but I like hearing from a real person who can relate to my experiences playing WoW over the years.
The red hood felt just like the first shoulder equipment you find, usually a white-piece on a random mob. A simple thing, but a new thing that makes you visually different from the 20+ levels before
I know it's not high on people's list, but I would love to see Azshara done. It's an unfinished zone in regards to questing, but the few quests that do take you there are rather unique. You get to see both a Demon Hunter and Blood Elves prior to TBC, summoning that boss mob in the ocean during the scepter quest line, mage's polymorph pig quest, Fallen Hero of the Horde with that sea giant temple, the Succubus love potion quest, etc. The atmosphere is like no other, and unlike many other zones which managed to keep _some_ degree of their atmosphere after the Cata revamp, Azshara's was completely lost.
The skirmishes at Tarren Mill and constantly getting ganked then camped while just trying to level is what pushed me from a PVP to a PVE server way back in 2007. I forgot how annoying that was until I watched this! XD
5:20 Just to be clear, when Vanilla WoW was written it was known the alliance won WC2, but they were never clear on just WHEN they started winning and I think it was a grave mistake by the author of the belated Tides of Darkness novel to have them win the very first battle and the Horde simply spend almost the entire second war running away with no logistics train whatsoever.
It actually upset me how Alterac went totally unused in Cata. Hillsbrad questing never takes you further north than the AV portals, and there's a couple quests that feel like Blizzard just forgot to take them out from Vanilla like the Ogre one.
I remember in my 30s me and my friend were killing horde by the farm. Eventual they formed a large group/raid to tale us down. And slowly pushed us into the town hall. We kiĺed a few before they started pulling the guards 1 by 1. They pushed us all the way to the mayors house. In a last stand we killed a few more before they pulled the last friendly npcs out. We both started hearthstoning out, and saw them enter as we left 😂😂😂. We were laughing so hard on discord i know they were pissed as they didn't get a single kill on us.
Stop making fun of me for how I pronounce hillsbrad, jerks ❤
Hillsbroad. (enjoying the videos though, keep it up!)
Man, these are great. I know you're small now, but keep going!
Comfy medium length content with dinner. Nice.
Your comment on my last vid is responsible for this
This is the place where so many ppl (myself included) got their first pvp experience which made the already fantastic zone even more special

Takes me back man. I was 11 years old when this came out and I started playing. I remember the big battles at TM. What a time to be alive 🥹
Solid. I bet you wish there was a good place to play 1.12 in 2024 too
*banging on the uldam gates "LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN"
Another amazing video my guy. I love your work and insights. As a classic Andy it really makes me appreciate things in this game more
Thank you sir 🫡
I love the series so far, keep it up!

Reading Lord of the Clans and imaginging Thrall wandering a woodsier Hillsbrad after his escape was very fun
here early because the last one was so good!
my favorite zone
Amazing series! Please expand these to the xpacs once you're through classic, can't wait for more

this is so good man, thank you. learned a ton even as a long time classic player
Great vids, gonna play WoW again now haha (Classic).
@@yok0hama447 only classic ✌️
Talking about how safe Southshore felt is exactly the sort of thing I liked to interrupt on my rogue, main cities too
I love questing here and you nailed it from the lore/ areas down to the hooded cowl
Found the new fav wow channel
Wow the Bear Skins and Spider Icor's you just made bubble up after a decades long dormant sleep. Holy Crap did that take forever.

Thank you for these relaxing and interesting essays! Looking forward to Alterac one, this zone was always a mistery for me
Broooooo more videos! Dont fall off the lore wagon yet! they are so good!

It was just behind westfall my favourite zone

Great video
I will literally watch all of these
Fantastic video.
Great Vid! Can't wait to level in this zone!
Keep up the great work!
I love these, recapture the joy of vanilla wow
Love these videos
NOSTALGIAAAAAAAA
Great video! My only critique is the way you pronounce "Hillsbrad". You say "Hillsbrad" but it's pronounced "Hillsbrad". FYI.
What lol
It's actually pronounced "Hillsbrad".
@@Nalhirrim Incorrect.! It's said, "Hillsbrad". omg!
"Hills-braaaahd" haha
Actually it’s pronounced Heels-Bruhd
Yaaay, another one of these.
Hillsbroad during my gap yaaah!

@@BryanWhiting-vv3uq yeah I upgraded my setup since then 🥲
👌
I reminisce there was a grave near Tarren Mill with partly buried skeleton-in armor... any stories related to this one?
So many great quests in Wow, but I think Westfall would be nice!
Hills-brah :)
Great video. Fucking me up with hillsbrad

these pronunciations are tripping me up
yeah i got dragged for it already okay ill make sure to cross check my pronunciations before the next one
@@lurker_yt all good, yours might be the correct way, they are just going against my headcanon LOL thanks for the video!
Why are you pronouncing it HillsBROAD? That seems like a weird oversight for a zone supposedly close to one’s heart and memories
that's how I pronounce it bro chill
@@lurker_ytIncorrectly? Ok. I agree with him, it's annoying.
Thumbs down for repeatedly pronouncing "Hillsbrad" as Hills-Broad." And mispronouncing almost everything else.
Be better.
