Bollocks. I cry when I see ridiculous comments like this. If people genuinely cry when they see videos of celebrities whom they didn't know and never even met, there's something wrong somewhere. 😆
I dont mean to be off topic but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
I've seen nearly everything and this one captures Mark's spirit in the way other's don't. I wish you'd stayed in Edinburgh Mark, but at the same time I know why you didn't. Good times well remembered mate.
Never saw this till it came up in my feed today - taking the piss at every turn, love it! Also the interviewer did a great job of keeping things going and playing off MES’ energy. Not an easy feat!
In hindsight it went brilliantly... but imagine it was a nightmare staring into Mark's eyes... Been there and it's not fun when he turns in an interview
this is amazing. thanks for the upload. too bad mojo didn't film the whole thing. It's always funny to me how people seem to think he's an ass hole from these interviews meanwhile he always comes off as being pretty likeable. He's always joking around. Has a hilarious genuine laugh. I think his reputation precedes him in that regard. He just doesn't tolerate stupidity which I've always found admirable. I just wish I could make out more of what he's actually saying.
+Mackenzie Bowles In fact, even with my limited listening-english understanding, I was wondering why he did not leave the stage before... It seemed like trying not to be an asshole for leaving too early, most of the questions were plain stupid, most of the people there would have understood him escaping from that.
the reason you probably cant understand what he's saying is because he's nearly deaf (35 years of live music will do that to you) , thats why he had to have the bloke asking the questions repeat shit over and over. I listen to the fall really loudly in my car for like an hour every day and Im nearly deaf imagine hearing the real thing night after night lolo.
Watched this years ago and great to do so again for some reason. The wit and take downs are sublime. Such a shame there wasn't more when taking about Machen at the end.
I love how Mark always turned the questions on the interviewer if he smelt a hint of preconception in their question ("I can already imagine what you'll say about this"). It's as though he instantly wants to answer on the contrary and throw them off so as to not give them the satisfaction of feeling grounded or comfortable, his entire being was dedicated to being anything but predictable.
@13:38 Mark E. Smith walks into a bar and asks, "Two pints of lager and a packet of helicopter flavoured crisps, please.." Barman replies, "Sorry, but we've only got plane."
Would have loved to have seen stuart Lee interview him ... I think he was miles ahead if most interviewers . And the middle class ones were totally out of their depth
About the crisps question - He means 'Focus groups' not pressure groups I love how he says _"The example I like to give is....CRISPS!"_ - Then gives the interviewer a look like ' need I really say more? surely this is all too obvious' @__@ 14:07 🤣 - I like this interview a lot - I met Smitty a bunch of times, he's a genuinely funny guy when he's relaxed.
Watched this a couple of years ago and was listening to New Facts Emerge today. Such a shame it ends just when he's moving on to talking about Arthur Machen and libraries. Sadly we'll never have another album but fuck he's left us quite something to keep going with. Britain at one of its most radical, sublime and intense moments of art, genius and noise! Renegade worth a read as side splitting funny in parts and dark and twisted in others. As is the man
Oh my! I’ve known his death because of the messages in my video. One of my five favourite bands of all time. Y un personaje en toda regla. Very sad day. DEP.

"The budget Bill Haley" lmao this interview is full of gems, MES coulda been a successful stand-up comic The part with Jonny Vegas' question always makes me crack up. "No, that was Jesus." "God, you just said". I think maybe MES played up the "drunk tramp" part sometimes (no shit, Sherlock)
I remember Bernard manning on top of a fire engine in heaton park, squirting water at us. early/mid 80's. something he did every summer. not sure what the event was called, anyone?
Funny Mark laughing at Johnny Vegas laughing at having a ghostwriter, considering he did just that, though it reads like Mark in Renegade...can anyone shed light on the extent Austin Collins edited it
I don’t remember. There was plenty of shows ahead and I don’t bring infinite Gb on the run. Just attending shows. And avoiding people in the middle was tiresome. The filming was done from the crowd, seated behind people.
I liked the obstruction and the blurs! It made it look erratic; just like Mark's body language and mood. Made me feel like I was there as well. Thanks for the upload!
Jemima Craig You're interviewing the most awkward unprofessional man in pop because none of your colleagues have got the guts, put it this way, you're not in your comfort zone.
A singer who we have never heard of from a band we have never heard of whose songs we have never heard has died. Sad but a cultural icon I don't think so. Not for most people. Most people I guarantee could not name a song from the band. R.I.P
Keep coming back to this - MES always makes me laugh. This is one of the funniest interviews ever. Still and always missed... Still appreciated 👍✌️💖
yeah, it took me a while before I could listen to The Fall again after he died, so things like this were good in the 'Interim'
Avril Devigne?
I've never seen this before now. I just cried. I miss him.

Was it? It was certainly analyzed better, with piss and vinegar as solvents
Never saw this till it came up in my feed today - taking the piss at every turn, love it! Also the interviewer did a great job of keeping things going and playing off MES’ energy. Not an easy feat!
I miss him so much, this is fantastic, thx soo much
I was at this interview. I saw the interviewer wandering around the crowd after it shaking like a leaf.
I always do that after I've enjoyed myself excessively

+Mackenzie Bowles But honoring the truth, the whole interview was quite fun-entertaining. Under the viewer point of view.

It's because he wouldn't play the 'Muso-journo' mutual ego masturbation game back in the 80s / 90s - so they painted him as a jerk
Hence the rep.
RIP MARK E SMITH SALFORD'S FINEST R.E.S.P.E.C.T 2 YOU 🎼 🍺 👍 ✌ 💖
Brilliant. Thanks for capturing this :)
Frankly _amazed_ he made it to 60!
He looked like he had 15 minutes left to live when he was 46,
them 90s wuz AARD LIVIN YEARS for ol Smitty.

I was there. Last time I saw the Fall too. RIP MES.
Me too. Couldn't see him live many times, but that was the last time for me, going to that festival on purpose from far away.
Farewell to the pub philosopher.

Great stuff, MES really on form.
He comes across as such a lovable rogue.
One of the most likable versions of NEW I've ever seen.
"theres a certain kind of person who likes clear spot" extremely accurate statement
I'm gonna zip up my guitar then when i've gone too far i'm gonna zip down my guitar

Thank You!!! For uploading this. Brilliant!
They’re all on the beach in Brighton..,in raincoats
Would have loved to have seen stuart Lee interview him ...
I think he was miles ahead if most interviewers .
And the middle class ones were totally out of their depth
This wit and intelligence will be sorely missed :-(
very tolerant nice guy honestly an inspiration
At certain angles he shares a similar look to Johnny Cash! (And that’s without a drink)
Interesting. I see the resemblance- he could have recreated the famous photograph of Johnny, drunk or drugged up, giving the camera the middle finger.
He shows off a Johnny Cash album in _Vinyl Justice_
About the crisps question - He means 'Focus groups' not pressure groups

MES in great form here. hard to believe he died just 2 years after this.
I thought I know English. Can't understand a word. But I watched all that clip anyway.
The Wealdstone Raider tribute act
I think he was very gracious considering his barely concealed contempt for these people . Absolutely funny and genius
somehow the interviewer makes Mark look like a reasonable guy
"Ask me a MOJO question like "what strings did you use?"
FUNNY

amphetamine requires some clear hydration, his mouth is sucked to bits
Why did he always fuck about with his microphone would have been a good question. He never left playing with them alone.
