I think that steam developers would make more money if there were more compatible games with the Apple silicon. Personally, I really really hope that within the next few years that these games will be fully compatible because I love my MacBook and I want to be able to play multiple games on it.

As with the M1 chip , with the passage of time more and more games will be optimised and supported for and by the M1 Pro and M1 Max chip enabling the game to make the best use of the chip's power. I hope that happens soon.

Hey Matt, I really enjoy watching your videos. They are always very informative. I was planning to buy a new phone, because my old one is giving up the ghost I think. How does it run on it? Do you play natively through steam?

Controller/gamepad support has been a problem with Steam and Apple silicon games. It’d be great if you tested the gamepad through Steam games.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if I missed it but which version are you using? I'm looking at getting the base pro model, or the 200 dollar upgrade version, but if I want to play, could I play somethin like going medieval?
We can say for sure that mac is also for gaming laptops! Anyway, I am planning to get an Apple Ipad Pro, hopefully early next year, because I was planning to purse digital arts, I'm still on the process of learning tho. Badly need a device for better work performance and quality for my commisioned arts. 12.9 inch can be a little bit pricey so I decided to go with 11 inch variation, its display is a great canvas size for my art, not too big and not too small. Anyway I'm still saving for it, I hope the price wouldn't change. Congratulations in advance for 300k subscribers and thank you for you reviews it helped me a lot in choosing the right Apple gear for me.

I'm planning to buy the new Macbook Pro 16" by the end of this year. I need it for my studies so bad.
Here's something you could test in a future video: with the new Steam Deck coming out, Valve are optimising a lot of games for Linux (via Proton). So you could compare steam games via Linux to steam games via Parallels. I've got a feeling the Linux ones will run extremely well on M1 Pro.

Linux is not unix. Also proton games are nearly exclusively x86, so they'd have to go through rosetta as well. Performance wouldn't be anything to write home about. Native will be much faster.

try turning on a on-screen framerate counter for your next video when you show games. that would be helpful. for example, you say Rocket League runs beautifully but to me that looks choppy as hell. That would be unplayable for anyone thats decent at the game.
Remember as said in the video multiple times, this video is to show that the steam client and a couple steam games work on the new M1 Pro. It’s not a FPS comparison video.
You know in your heart, this video is answering M1 is only to play it not to enjoy the game yet. Look at dave2D vid, the GPS are far worst on the macs.

I was able play Cities Skylines on a M1 Max MacBook Pro, 30-40fps. The fans turned on pretty high but it was quite playable! I wouldn't recommend buying this laptop for gaming but on vacation or something, it works!

I think now, apple will allow native compatibility for triple a games. They now have the power required.
The compatibility and optimization burden lies on the devs, not Apple. Hopefully they make the transition soon.

FWIW I'm running Cities Skylines pretty much default wide-open on an M1 13" MB Pro with 16gb RAM and it is liquid smooth. Love the performance. No complaints.
