Your instruction on servicing (getting into the case! ) of my KitchenAid mixer was extremely helpful. Without your video I would certainly have had to pay for professional repair... and all just to replace a broken speed control knob! Thanks.
Thanks for the help, this fixed my mixer problem and saved me a long drive to and from the repair shop. I found the part on line and it was inexpensive and easy to replace.
Glad I can help! Depending on the model, the motors in these mixers do have a thermal cut off switch. In older units they will have a thermal fuse. Yours sounds like the case of the thermal fuse burning out. At this point it will be best to replace the whole motor. Thanks you for your questions!
Thanks for the easy-to-follow video! The part arrived in a few days, and I now have a working stand mixer again!!!
Great quality video & excellent troubleshooting tip regarding speed sensor vice control board. Replacing the speed sensor cured my instant fast run and auto shutoff problem.
Thanks Mark!
I had a different set of symptoms on my mixer. It basically wouldn't turn on at all anymore. Turns out the motor needed replacement. I ordered from ereplacement parts and it worked!! Definitely worth the $100 for the motor.
Thank you, Thank you for this video. Now I will repair my speed sensor.
Visit our website or see the video description for more details on how you can get the parts you need. Thanks for watching, I'm glad the tutorial helped!
Nice job on the video, thanks for creating this. The speed sensor symptoms described match the issue that I am having exactly and I'm ordering the part today.
Very clear explanations. Thanks.
Extremely helpful video. Thanks!
The video for your particular problem is titled: How to Replace the Circuit/Phase Board in a KitchenAid Stand Mixer. This video will show you how to replace the phase board. Thanks for watching!
It could be the sensor or the board. To find out witch one, you can do a simple test. Open the mixer up as shown in the video. Disconnect the sensor from the board. Keep your fingers away from any moving parts and using caution turn on the mixer. If the mixer goes all the way up to the highest speed and only runs for a few seconds before shutting off, that indicates that your board is still good but your sensor is bad. If the speeds doesn't change, it's the board that's bad. Thanks for watching!
Feel free to see video description for part details and more. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching! We are very happy that we were able to help. Now for the additional help. We suggest replacing the sensor (Part #9703312) based off of your symptoms. For $9 plus shipping it come out to be cheaper than the $65 service charge. Please let us know if you have anymore questions. This same video will also help in removing and installing the new sensor.
Once you have done that you should check to see if you are getting power to to the board. With replacing those parts it is also sometimes necessary to have the speeds adjusted back into place. Only service centers have the proper tool that allows them to adjusted the speeds correctly.
Very good video. You are correct that it is very easy to replace. The problem that I experienced is that there was a major delay in the receiving of my part. It was ordered and somehow order was cancelled and returned to factory. I finally received my part, but have been too busy to put it in. Just attempted to now, but it is not the right control panel. I spoke with someone personally when I ordered it, so not sure what happened, but the control panel is designed differently in mine. Now I have a part and cannot use it, and still no mixer.😕
These mixers can get in contact with a lot of flour and because of this it can gum up the control board giving you the problems you are having. Sometimes you can correct this problem buy blowing some compressed air into the slot on the control board and, with the mixer unplugged, move the speed lever back and forth a few times to try and break up any debris.
Yes, this repair will be the same for a Pro 5. Thanks for watching!
On these mixers some of the motors have a thermal fuse in them. If the mixer gets over heated this fuse will burn out and not allow any more power to flow through to the motor.
Currently disregard the part about replacing gears. At 6:25 you will see the upper housing of your mixer. If you look where the speed lever is you will also see that there is a screw that holds the lever in place as well as acting as a pivot point. If you loosen this screw about 1/4 of a turn you should notice a difference in how tight the lever is. If your mixer is not the model KSM90 but a 6 Qt mixer size then you will need to replace the whole control board to fix your problem.
Thanks for watching! If your mixer is brand new we would suggest seeing a warranty service center that can take care of the repair for you for free. New mixers have a one year warranty from the time of purchase. If you were to take your mixer apart under warranty it can void the warranty. If you bought is second hand then that is a different story.
Great video.. when I turn the mixer on it kinda has a pulsating speed. Took of rear housing cover and attempted to get it right... nope. Any help will be appreciated
Hi--My mixer will not turn on. I just replaced the worm gear, plugged it in and then nothing. I think it may be the control board based on this video. The only video I found to replace the control board was for the Pro series. My mixer is the heavy duty 375 watt model with a vertical bowl lift so it has a rear cover. Is there a video that does a control board replacement on this type of mixer? The video for the worm gear replacement was great. Thanks for the help.
We do have a video that is specific for your model of mixer that can be of help titled "How to Replace the Circuit/Phase Board in a KitchenAid Stand Mixer". There are a number of reasons why you might not be getting power. To start you might want to check that the brushes are installed correctly (Seen on "How to Replace the Brushes on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer").
The first thing thing to check would be the brushes. Our video, "How to Replace the Brushes on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer", will be of great help for you. The part number for the brushes is #W10380496.
If that does not take care of your problem then you might want to consider taking it to a service center. Electrical problems can be tricky to diagnose correctly with out seeing it first hand. That's where a service center will come in for you.
Sounds like the mixer is having a gear problem. The only way to know for sure is to disassemble it and check it out. A video titled, "How to Fix a KitchenAid Pro 600 Mixer", will help you do this. Once you have the gears completely disassembled, check for wear as well as making sure all the gears turn freely. You also can carefully turn on the mixer without the gears in and see what it does. Very rarely does the motor go out. Thanks for watching!
After replacing the phase control board on my Kitchenaid KSM50P mixer, it still doesn't work, but it is an older model than the one you feature in the Speed Sensor/Control Board video. It doesn't look at all the same, and I need to confirm that you carry the parts I might need to replace. I think it's a Speed Control Plate, but it doesn't even seem to be getting power when I turn it on The serial number is WE2224135. Thanks!
This fuse is built in as a safety to prevent a fire. To check and see if the fuse is the problem, pull the leads for the motor off of the control board and run a continuity test using those leads. A multimeter will come in handy for this. If you don't get power through it then its time to replace the whole motor. If you DO get power through it its time to replace the control board. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the advice. In order to get to the control board, do I need to open up the machine? And when you say "slot" on the control board, will that be an obvious area? We make a lot of nougat and merengue (i.e. egg white / sugar) and I can see how this material might get in and make things stick.
Thank you for showing me this. My mixer just doesn't turn on any more, where do i order those parts from to replace.
Thanks for watching! If your model is a KSM90 you will need to watch is, "How to Fix a KitchenAid Mixer That Isn't Spinning". This will show you how to get your mixer apart to adjust the speed lever.
Thank you so much for the reply. I did take the gear box apart and all gears look pretty new (I didn't use it a lot). I also tried to turn on the mixer without the gears and still nothing runs. Is it possible that some fuse was burned out? I can't imagine that a mixer that worth $400 has no protection against overheat or something like that.
Hello, thank you for these helpful videos. I have what seems to be unique issue with my KitchenAId mixer. The stir and "2" speed settings are the same speed, and the motor makes a "buzzing" sound when on those speed settings. I have tried adjusting the speed settings, but even with the adjustment screws all the way in, the machine still runs too fast on "spin" and still at the same speed as speed setting 2. What do you suggest I replace? Is there a reason it would buzz?
Thanks for your videos! My kitchen aid pro 6 is turning on for a few minutes, but then stops and I cannot use it for a while. It gets slightly warm, but not really hot. The first time it stopped like this, it did get very hot. Now, the mixer will not run for more than a few minutes. I thought it might be the work follower, but I don't hear the motor running at all when it shuts off. Do you have any idea what needs to be replaced? Thanks!
Hi thanks for the video. My kitchenaid ksm90 control knob is diffcult to move. I have to force it to slow and high. Do i replace the whole board? Thanks for any help you can give.
Do you have a video showing how to replace the brush holder? I know the machine has to come completely apart. The threaded tube (brush holder) on my 1985 K5SS Kitchenaid/Hobart broke when I changed the brushes. I super glued it for now.
Hi, great video!
I just moved from to Norway from Canada where I purchased my 5 plus about 1-2 years ago. Really want to get this great mixer to work in Europe. I read somewhere that it will work as normal if I replace:
- the 220/240v armature
- the 220/240v field
- phase control board (for 60Hz to 50Hz)
Can anyone confirm this and is there videos out there for this voltage change procedure?
Thanks and sorry for going a bit off topic here!
How about if I also have to replace the control board? Do you have that part number? My mixer is almost 20 years old; I hope it isn't obsolete! Thanks!
Thank you!
You're very welcome, glad we could help with your repair!
Hi, thanks for this video; made me brave enough to try this repair! I successfully replaced the control board and speed sensor on my KA Pro 6, but, when I tried turning the mixer on, it just struggled briefly to start and then there was no further response from the mixer. Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks so much!!
Hi Jeena, unfortunately at this time we are unable to offer technical support. I would suggest contacting the manufacture for further information. I sincerely apologize.
If the motor doesn't change in speed from #8 to #10, does this imply that it is a speed sensor or control board issue? Thanks much
The true and simple way to fix the problem is to replace the control board. You can find the control board listed under your model on our website. See the video description for more details. Thank you for watching!
I bought new controls for my mag drill (Milwalkee). It is a half wave base and I have a half wave control panel that E-replacement sent me. When I push the mag button it blinks like I have low voltage but it is 122volts. I have two other drills and the controls do the same when I hook it to them. Is this part defective or am I missing something? My old control panel will still work the magnet so I know nothing is wrong with the drills.
I have an older machine that I'm hoping to diagnose why all the speeds run at the same speed. The color of the mixer is a vintage olive color and it was made in Troy Ohio. Model K45. Any idea where I might find the similar info for this model?
My Kitchenaid KSM50P quit working after the speed control got stuck on 10. I replaced the phase control board, but that wasn't the problem. What can I do next? I'm on a limited budget, and the repair shop wants $65 just to look at it! It's already apart, and it can't be too complicated, right? Any help greatly appreciated!
My mixer will not run at all above speed 6. Which part do you suspect would need replaced? The speed is fine upto that point.
I have a kitchenaid k45sswh mixer that I have had for 3 months, I have used it about 4 or 5 times. when I turn the mixer on the switch looked like it was sparking inside. then it stopped working after that, wont turn on... do you think it is the control board or something else? I appreciate any help!!
How can you determine if it is just a switch problem or something else? Nothing happens when I turn mine on. Can you order just the switch?
i have to jiggle the on switch to get it started. I use a lot of icing sugar, could it have gummed up the switch, and can I clean it? or do I have to replace the board?
Hi. Very good videos! Thanks!
I have one question, I accidentally opened the screw where the charcoal is located and it touched the metal and of course it got short circuited. :( What part would be the most probable one to be broken?
And thanks again for really great videos!
We have a video titled, "How to Replace the Brushes on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer" that you should find very helpful.
Hello. I have a K5SS. I replaced the plate that had a crack in it. Now My speed control is working backwards (1 is high and 10 is off). I took great care to replace the wires the way they were and It looks like all the all the wires are connected (colors line up). What would cause this and how can I fix it? Thank you
Hi, I don't have a new mixer. I have a Kitchenaid made by Hobart and is 27 years old. It is fine other than 1st does not work unless it has product in the bowl that is already incorporated. (a light load).Any ideas what may be wrong or what I may have to replace?
Hello Mark
In my case, when I pkug the Mixer and move the switch to any speed, it doesn't do anything.
So, I'm planning to buy the phase board, control board and sensor.
Please tell me if OK.
Thanks
Mr. Pérez
Hi Mark, Thanks for your excellent videos.I have a k45ss which, on the lower speeds (stir - 6), sounds like it is getting ready to mix then instantly stops. At the fastest 2 speeds (8 and 10) it works fine. I can then decelerate to the slower speeds and each one works fine as long as I go from fast to slow. What do you suggest I do to fix. Thanks so much!!
It sounds like the rear bearing is loose in you mixer. With the unit unplugged, open the rear housing. To the right and Left of the control plate there are two nuts. These put tension on the armature as well ass hold the rear bearing housing in place. These two nuts need to be snug but not too tight. Again, with the mixer unplugged, turn he speed lever to ten. Snug the nuts and make sure that they are not too tight by turning the governor with your fingers. There should be some resistance, but at the same time it shouldn't be difficult to turn with your fingers.
I have a K45SS mixer and it is doing the same thing - only one speed - what would be the corresponding parts for that mixer? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
i have a kitchen aid professional 6 mixer that recently stopped working out of the blue. the machine does not turn on at all regardless of what speed you set the control to. i have tested the leads on the speed control board going to the motor and they show 120v when you turn the machine on, but only for a few seconds before it goes back down to 0v as if the machine was in the off position. would this still indicate an issue with the speed control board or would this be a dead motor?
My speed mixer lever is a bit loose however the only problem I have with it is that my mixer makes a really loud noise... Can you please help me to see what I need to do to fix this and if you carry the part thank you so much
I have the professional 600
My Pro600 mixer stopped working. Now when I turn it on, sometimes I hear the buzz sound in the motor for about 5 seconds and then the sound goes off. Sometimes, no sound at all. In either case, the motor doesn't spin. In my case, shall I try to replace the control board, or could the motor be broken?
Hello, the switch on my mixer is bended downwards and I can not change speeds because is stuck on 2nd speed. Does this mean that I need to change the speed board? Thank you!
Hi, Mi kitchenaid speed control level is stuck, the model is KSMC50, don't move, stuck in off, can you please give an advice or I should take it to a repair shop. Thank you
I have a bowl lift, non-tilt mixer and cannot find how to remove screws to take off the cover to gain access to the speed ribbon and control panel
I have this exact problem. What do I do?
Any insights as to why my 5 quart artisan has variable speeds and sluggish performance at speed setting 10? Sluggish and intermittent speed (despite not having changed the speed) happened during the same use.
Hi there, I replaced the speed sensor and still the mixer speeds up. Upon further investication the spot where the speed sensor connects to the motor and reads the speed, there appears to be indicators on the shaft of the motor (if this is correct). these appear to be broken, will I have to replace the motor? or can I get the indicators?
Should the black end of the speed sensor ribbon cable connect to any pins?? or does it just snap into that slot and sit in close proximity to the motor drive shaft (not sure that's what that bar is called, but that's what it seems to be)? Thanks!
You are right. The sensor part clips into the frame of the motor and sits above a magnetic ring. Then end of the ribbon cable should connect direclty to the control board as shown in the video.
The white part of the speed sensor you have the wires exposed up. On my machine the expose wires were facing down. Your video has the exposed wires up. Which is the correct installation exposed wires up or down?
The connections for the speed sensor will only go on one way. You might have an older version of mixer with and older style of control board.
Hello,
I have replaced both the speed sensor and the control board. But the mixer still when turn on to the lowest setting, goes to full speed and turn itseld off after a few seconds. What could be the next step? Any suggestions?
Thank you
So My switch won’t budge does this mean I need to replace the board?
when I place my mixer on low it stays low for a while then jumps up to a higher speed then down to a lower speed. When I put the mixer on the highest setting and then back down to low it stays on low for a while, Do I need a speed sensor or a control board or both? Thanks
I just replaced the speed sensor on my KitchenAid Pro 6 mixer. It still will not turn on or even make a sound, Is there something else that it might be besides the board itself? Also I have a model Kg25h7xsl 5 gt mixer that needs a worm gear .the web site states that the new version only works with the later models What part number would I need to order that part, I do not find anything on the list and the man in the office there could not help.
Need KitchenAid Help
I have the problem with kitchenaid artisan mixer KSM150PSWH. Some years ago, there has been made the modification of the mixer, it has been changed from US norm 110V to european 220V - no idea who and how has made it. It seems to be the time point, from which the mixer started to spin in reverse direction, what causes big problems by lot of accessories. If I look on youtube videos with artisan, the mixer really spins in the opposite direction than all other in videos - it impacts not only the planetary, but also the horizontal axis going to the front of the device. My question is, if there is some way how to fix it, I thought I could try to change the motor polarity, but have no idea if this kind of motor can be regulated in that way and if, where do I have to replace the cables. I have tried something, but it did not help. Any advice or pointer will be appreciated.
Dear eReplacementParts.
I have just bought a Professional 600 mixer, with the model number of KSM 6573CER2. I realised that you do not sell the following spare parts for it. The problem is I have bought it from the US to Singapore, and upon plugging in the power, it caused the mixer to fuse, resulting is a mini smoke incident. - due to the voltage difference of my negligence.
Therefore, do you have any advice which part can i replace? I understand it might be the chipset in the mixer that have burnt. Problem is though, the chipset is placed differently from your video, instead of it being on the side, it is placed under the motor.
I can't seem to find any tutorial on models with chipset placed below which is much more difficult to replace.
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
Sam
Don't know if its allowed, but i chanced upon this article www.e-scott.net/towardswisdom/2011/05/24/kitchenaid-mixer-fail/
where he replaces the board, and i had the same problem as he do. therefore i hope that a simple repair like this could have solve my problem.
However my chipset is green in colour, totally different from what i see here.
Hi Mark. Please let me know your thoughts on my k45ss that has speed issues. The mixer starts to mix then stops immediately when I start at lowest speed and go from lowest speed through to speed 8. Runs fine on 8 and 10. Also runs fine if I decrease from 8 down to 6, 4, etc., but I can't use lowest speeds unless I decrease from 8, which is not always what I want to do. What parts do you recommend I replace? Thanks!
It sounds like the rear bearing has come loose. With your mixer unplugged, turn it onto the highest speed and snug the two nuts that are located on both sides of the control plate. Don't over tighten these nuts as it will bind the motor. If you can turn the governor without too much effort the nuts are tight enough. There should be some resistance when trying to turn the motor.
I just replaced my speed sensor and board on my KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus mixer and it continues to start on high speed and then stop. Is there something else I need to replace. Very frustrating.
First thing to check is that the sensor is completely seated being close enough to detect how fast the motor is turning. Also check that the connector is installed correctly. Very rarely the magnetic ring on the motor shaft can slip out of place causing the symptoms of a bad sensor.
Also make sure the red strip on the ribbon cable is on the left most pin as you face the control board and the gear housing is on your left. Just like in the video. If you have it reversed you will get the symptom you described too .
2 years late but wanted to reply. Yep. Had it reversed. Once I reversed, worked like a charm.
My mixer works fine on low speed but when you increase speed the mixer makes a loud growling noise and does not increase in speed. Does anyone know what may cause that problem??
My mixer will turn on, but when you turn it on to the lower settings it acts like there is a spring that bumps the mixer up to a higher setting. It is really annoying when you are trying to mix in your dry ingredients on the slower settings to avoid a dust cloud, and it bumps up to a faster setting and you get flour everywhere. I have to stand and hold the switch to prevent it from changing speeds. Any suggestions?
There is a screw that puts tension on and acts as a hinge to the speed control lever. To tighten this screw you will need to open the housing to gain access. Tighten the screw (Note: it can be hard to tighten).
this never was an issue when Hobart built KitchenAid
Whats the new part number for 9705504?
My machine won't start at the lowest speed. I have to leave it at the lowest speed for about 30 seconds, then it starts. Could it be a speed sensor?
MIlw55 What model number do you have?
eReplacementParts.com I have the Professional 5 Plus (450 Watts)
+MIlw55 DID THAT fix your issue.. i am having same problem
