@@pauldncn1 He does post semi-regularly on fb, often with lots of looping tips. I was never a PRS fan until I played the Custom 24-08 top 10 what a truly versatile guitar and the playability is second to non. Blows my Gibson Custom Shop 1960 v2 out of the water. and it was $2,000 cheaper. PRS has finally won me over. I will design my own private stock guitar

I think it's a guitar more people should be talking about. Keep on playing Players !
It doesn't get any better then a PRS imo, including SE's, but I've said ever since I first tried a C-1 that it's probably THE best non PRS guitar I've played.
The title of that video was about satin finish. If any one wishes to 4, 700 dollars more for a guitar up to you. Does that 5400 dollar guitar have dual carbon trust rods ? The schecter i have does. Does it really matter no.
Satin is exactly what I have wanted from PRS. Satin is what is visually "pops" more. All gloss does is act like a mirror reflecting the light. Satin allows you to see the guitar itself.
If you remove the tolex covering from your amp head and speaker cabinets, it lets the whole thing breathe. It just sounds richer, with more harmonic content.
I have a really nice SE semi hollow with 57/08 pickups. I love everything about it other than the look. It's gloss and charcoal gray with some nice grain. I'm no stranger to woodworking. I'd love if I could take steel wool or something to the finish to make it satin, and especially the neck. I want the neck to feel like hand rubbed and waxed furniture, like soft and buttery. Any suggestions?
Lee you are correct, I recently purchased a 2015 limited fender telecaster 10 for 20 model satin Redwood and it sounds amazing acoustically, I couldn't believe how well it sounded, tremendous tone through an amp as well.
Bought an L7V off you guys, it's brilliant. It's the 3rd Guitar i have purchased in the last 12 months from Andertons. Might be a 4th if i can get a left hand PRS.
Great story about satin finishes and resonance. I was lucky to discover that with my first guitar ibanez s320 weathered black. Then I upgraded to 2 prestige models...and they were better made but sounded less open than the s320 and that annoyed me. Now I have a PRS s2 standard Satin and an Ibanez RG satin. Both are loud and vibrant giving back more energy.
Haha, "Demonstrashioni"! Wonderfully made and sounding PRS guitars, just fantastic! Thanks both of you, and huge thanks to Paul aswell! I cant help it but when i hold and play a PRS guitar it feels immediately at home in my hands like no other guitar brand does! 🤗❤😊
The combination of Freedman little sister, that purple PRS and Pete’s playing are amazing. What a sound. Haha just heard how Lee described the price 😂 Love it, you guys are great.
I’d even say visually the satin looks a lot nicer than the high gloss stuff. Then again, I’m a sucker for satin finishes anyway, on metal hardware, too. Satin gold hardware, man, so, beautiful.
I’d like to see more creatively designed tops like those being done by his long-time private stock designer-builder Joe Knaggs, who I serendipitously played golf with in early 2009, a couple weeks after he left PRS. I didn’t know Joe, but I did know his builds. The first thing Joe said to me was, ‘I may have just made the biggest mistake in my life’, then talked to me about his 25 years as head of R&D, Private Stock and production at PRS. He didn’t need my advice, but I said he’d look back and never regret the move. You folks at Andertons should stock a few of the Knaggs guitars. They are stunning.
I have a Core McCarty from 15 years ago, and a Core 594 built in 2021. The older one rings so much louder and brighter when played acoustically. But the newer 594 sounds so much better when plugged in.
Having owned a flat finish guitar before, I’m not normally a fan. These PRS models though…! The thing is if it’s my money I’d probably end up with the gloss. They do sound beautiful and look great.
Those are some of the best tones I've hear from a PRS guitar. I really like them. Wish the bird fret markers were tinted to kind of match the guitar top color, and make them look a bit more subtle.
I don't like glossy finishes. You have to constantly wipe them in order for them to stay clean looking and not sticky. I think satin looks prettier and definitely feels better! I would buy a SE custom 24 if it were satin.
I want to like the Custom 24, owned two core version but could not bond with them. The McCartys are where it is at for me. From the early stop bar 1994 models to the current 594s, they are all fantastic. I am talking core guitars not SE or S2. Maybe the S2s are good with hardware and electronics upgrades.
Thought to myself - “ these sound like they’re lovely guitars…” Look at the price on the shop link and - “Holy Sh#t!!!” 🤣 More things to add to the fanasy wish list 🤣 Lovely guitars though!
I got 2 guitars that ring really loud, ones a prs black faded tee, and the other is a fender strat from 1996. Its poly , but it just rings so loud. The pickups are so punchy aswell on both. So i think the woods and finish do change the sound. Proper dry wood makes a differnce aswell. I have 30 guitars and 2 are nitro. They both are my favorites the singlecut doesnt ring as loud but it plays amazing. Prs smiths are always reliable everytime i pull them out, there intune and ready.
Love the satin finish, best looking PRS. Would love to try one. I have played and sold a few SE's and they're so nice to play, I know they get the dentist guitar label but that aside they sound good and play well, these look stunning!
Love your passion Lee when you get a good bit of kit, I am never much of a fan of the PRS, too much bling for me, but that addition would not be amiss in the smokey whisky joint in Nashville, or on any stage, or church even. Just the way I like it.
Lot’s of people will try to prove that woods, finish, weight, body and neck shape don’t change tone. But I feel they forget how it affects the way you play, how you hold it, the effort you put in, the resistance it has against your hand. That must affect your playing and therefore affects the sound.
I actually greatly prefer the sound of the 22 fret PRS guitars, because of the difference in the pickup spacing. Not that I’d turn down a 24 fret model is someone handed it to me, but having played both, I have a definite preference for the 22s. My dream PRS would be a 22-fret, 24.5” scale, bolt-on neck model with piezo pickups and vibrato bridge. Someday, if I hit the lottery, I will place orders for several Private Stock guitars.
Wow I hope they make this as a standard model, and also to spread it as a satin version for the other core models! Can you clarify if the neck is a "pattern" or a "pattern thin"?
These all have Pattern Thin, what used to be “Wide Thin”. Lee must have misspoke. There are exceptions to every rule with PRS guitars, however, generally speaking, if it has 24 frets it most likely has the Pattern Thin or Wide Thin, though it could possibly have their Pattern Regular, which is more narrow at the nut. Any 22 fret will most likely have the “Pattern” or what was known as “Wide Fat”, which is my personal favorite. I personally own a Custom 22 fret with a Wide Thin so proof that you will find examples in the wild which go against their typical specs all the time.
PRS no doubt makes beautiful guitars. I'd have to say from experience, if youre a player that wants consistency, PRS is for you. edited to add, i wish they had more offerings with satin necks with gloss bodies.
I really like PRS guitars, but I could never buy one for myself. They are just stunning and beautiful pieces of fine furniture really. I feel like I would need to go for one that had a slightly less flashy top, but has all the beautiful colors and the reveal binding, and the gold appointments. I need something that looks perfectly imperfect, and PRSs are just pure perfection. It is too much for me. I would also probably leave on its case and never take it out to play to keep it nice and pristine.
There is a reason why every guitar that is tested @ gitarre & bass is played without an amp first. They sound different. And it makes a difference what they are made of and how. Maybe not as much as with acoustics but still...
I actually prefer the gloss models, as you see the light reflect off the bodies a lot of the wood grain gets hidden under a big smudge - most evident when Lee ends with that gradient colored one. I could never get the finish vs tone argument, "wood needs to breathe" & "poly seals away the tone" Lol
I've wanted a satin finished PRS for a while - but truthfully, with regular play they develop "hot spots"... where the satin goes glossy. It doesn't look great when that happens.
Growing up a guitar lover, I always considered the Gibson Les Paul my “Holy Grail” - the unattainable instrument. Over the years I’ve come to realize it’s actually an American made PRS I’m longing for…
