Ya sliding gloves aren't designed to do the slowing down; they're designed To distribute/balance your weight off your wheels enough to turn em' sideways enough to where they're actually creating drag rather than their natural tendencie(to roll).
I recently got into longboarding, this is one of the best tutorials ive seen. I haven't yet tried to slide cause im scared, but you guy make it seem quite easy. ive heard you should grab the front of the board, but I think this is a good place to start :) thanks guys!
i tried this today and it worked really well because i always had to stop by running onto peoples lawns while im going downhill and fast. This really helped, thanks!
i dont understand why anyone would hate on someone trying to help you....youre here bc you cant slide...thank the guy for making the video and trying to help you...
Pundisher Death He's grabbing his rail with his arm between his legs. Some people consider this unsafe. Ideally his arm should be further back, behind is back knee, but with his hand still between his feet.
Thank you so much man!! I had trouble with this when watching other video tutorials and right after seeing yours I went outside, did exactly what you did and pulled it off almost instantly. Thanks you're awesome!!!
You are a good teacher. You should do more videos. I am trying to learn how to slide right now. I like how you show your movements clearly and explain without the "uh, like... then duh". Good vids.
I did it! :) None of the videos I saw mentioned the wide stance, which now seems kind of obvious :D But you explained everything very well, and helped me a lot! Thank you very much!
believe me i have tryed that numerous times, and at very high speeds, my wheels are really grippy and every time they start to lose traction it grips up again, this makes it really good for downhill and carving. I am looking at getting a new board, at the moment i have my eyes on the landyachtz tomahawk which is practically made for slides
for your first slide, you're going to want to put your back hand around the outside of your back knee and then grab the inside of your front foot. This pushes your weight onto the front truck, which frees the weight on your back truck so you can slide. Plus it looks way more steezy.
Thanks for this! I am going to go out and try again. This helped me realize my problem as to why I am having trouble sliding. I'll let you know if your advice helped! :) thanks!
Start with a sitting slide (the first one) and commit yourself to it. It'll be easier to slide on wheels with a harder duro (81a+). You want to grab your board and commit your shoulders to it to completely swing the board around. When you first start your wheels won't free up. Just keep practicing, you'll get it :P
Both drop down and drop thru's, are designed with a more raceing style in mind, however they are a bit more pricey, if your short on budget. but ya they are better for slideing, and maintaining speed (with out speed wobble). you can get speed wobble, its just takes more speed to get it, in comparison to a top mount. principle is: closer to ground you are, easier it is to pull grip out the wheels for slideing.
if you have wheels that are relatively meant for sliding- then like 5-10 mph to be able to do a 180. i also recommend not grabbing the middle of your board. just throw your hand up there, it makes it easier to initiate the slide. just commit and go for it. good luck bro
If you read some of the comments, you notice that the first slide (one handed) is acually called a stink bug, which when goin fast can make you you 180 your board. So if you learn to do that rideing switch. maybe it will pop you back?
Putting you're arm between you're legs is a elbow to the balls waiting to happen you should tuck you're leg then put you're arm over you're leg so you can prevent that
A rule of thumb : The lower to the ground you are, the easier it will be to slid. But yes. It can be down on "just about" any board. Recommend low down board though. for first time. Plus they last and perform better for downhill.
Your looseness of your trucks really depends on how fast you want to go, and how much effort you care to expend to turn your board. So I keep mine about a 6 maybe 7 out of 10. The tighter your trucks the more your board will have to slide before it can turn. But don't get ridiculous with it. You have bushing for a reason.
@123KOAN You could look for yourself online, but basically it limits your range of motion and causes weight to be distributed oddly. It does work, but taking corners and working your way up will be much better if you either do a Coleman (hand in the air) or grab rail (same move but fold your back leg down and grab between your back foot and back knee).
@wardenclyffeslate; true but just as many beginner snowboards are designed with a "flat" profile since they are easier to learn on then you graduate to more rocker, camber, or Hybrid. Lower longboards are easier to get concept, then use technique to grade self a different profile.
My board is a land yachtz chinook, I consider it a "less agressive" evo (also a board from land yachtz). Tip: lower to the ground you are, the easier it will be to do any slide.
drops are ok for learning freeride, just get a topmount, they will last longer, theyre more fun, and are better for freeride once you are moderately normal with sliding. A Comet Voodoo Symetrical is a good deck to start and keep riding on, get some Caliber 50 degree trucks, and some Pink Powerballs and you're good.
well, a little idea, what i used before i got my gloves were some wrist gaurds, a tad-bit different feeling, but personally think they can work just as good. (make sure its wrist guards with think exposed plastic)
But keep in mind, the faster you go.. The softer they feel (you bushings) so keep mental notes of where your personal sweet spots are depending on what 'terrain' you riding. with how much you tighten them
@droshadow1 , No it can totally work, for goin around a corner like that, but it all depends on how fast your goin, and if you want to keep speed or not? JUst remeber the outside/inside/outside (O.I.O) rule. and fish your tail, if and when nessacary. and have a more foward agressive placement with your grounded hand. and you sould be fine.
@123KOAN hey man. thanks for the vid. but would you be able to do a stand up slide video using the same board? been finding it really hard to get my foot set up for power slides
Thanks for your video and It helps me a lot. Today I just got a really longboard which is 46" Timeless Pin GT. Do you think people can make some simple tricks? If so, could you name on it so that I could find it. Cheers!!!
also if you have some decent skateboard wheels lie'n around the house some where you could temperarly switch them on to your sector 9 board and learn to slide with those since they generally around that 85a rating. but don't stick them for too long, they'll wear pretty fast. but should be good till you get a legitamite set of wheels.
anyone looking to do a more advanced version of the first slide he did look up a coleman slide which is just the first slide but without putting your hand on the board.
@jarhett2 Landyachtz Chinook. very great for DH and sharp turns. Decent for freeride, but you'll eventually want a symmetrical board in the future. dont get it if you hope to be freeriding.
I NEED ADVICE... I have been longboarding for a while and snowboarding for over 5 years, I am comfortable on a board. I have been trying to get into sliding for a while now, as i found out it is rather hard to stop when you bomb hills at 30/40kmp. and recently I found the problem is mainly in the board. At the moment I have sector9 78A biothane soy wheels and my board is a 40" mama say sector9 pintail. Im looking at purchasing a landyachtz tomahawk but I don't want to jump into it. Any advice??
Its not all about the board its also in the wheels, you want to stick to wheels above 78a when you first learn slide like 80a or 82a but not too high duro, the harder the wheel the easier the slide you might also want a wheel with a smaller contact patch.
They're slide gloves. They're built for sliding on a longboard. Those white circles are called pucks. Look up 'Slide Gloves' and you'll see what I mean.
That a Chinook??? =D and I have a pintail right now the Arbor bamboo to be exact with some 78a wheels. Now I know it makes sliding more difficult but it still possible so i figure why not. My biggest consern is the symetrey of the board. And im only stand sliding for the moment. and advice on completing my 180's or speed checks?
Ya sliding gloves aren't designed to do the slowing down; they're designed To distribute/balance your weight off your wheels enough to turn em' sideways enough to where they're actually creating drag rather than their natural tendencie(to roll).
+Beau Schnapp stinkybug ever heard of coleman slide?
he better have. i don't even own a longboard yet and i know what it is.
every thing he said is so wrong
I recently got into longboarding, this is one of the best tutorials ive seen. I haven't yet tried to slide cause im scared, but you guy make it seem quite easy. ive heard you should grab the front of the board, but I think this is a good place to start :) thanks guys!

i dont understand why anyone would hate on someone trying to help you....youre here bc you cant slide...thank the guy for making the video and trying to help you...
i recommend you read up on something called "stinkbug grab"
what is that
Pundisher Death He's grabbing his rail with his arm between his legs. Some people consider this unsafe. Ideally his arm should be further back, behind is back knee, but with his hand still between his feet.
i gotta say dude this was one of the better tutorials of how to slide. personally i feel like i could do it now.
I like how you show your movements clearly and explain without the "uh, like... then duh". Good vids.
Best advice ive ever heard for sliding(stand ups): your knees need to be bent more than you think.
thanks for the video bro, one of the best tutorials for sliding
I did it! :) None of the videos I saw mentioned the wide stance, which now seems kind of obvious :D But you explained everything very well, and helped me a lot! Thank you very much!
this really helped! i will tell my friends that if they have trouble on there longboard, ill tell them to watch this video
Best tutorial yet. Why are people down voting for no helmet?
this slide is so easy!!! it was the first slide i learned and it took me one try
believe me i have tryed that numerous times, and at very high speeds, my wheels are really grippy and every time they start to lose traction it grips up again, this makes it really good for downhill and carving. I am looking at getting a new board, at the moment i have my eyes on the landyachtz tomahawk which is practically made for slides

thanks dawg i have learned it now :) it feels awesome BIG thanks to you dude !
Hi buddy, thank you very much for this video. After watch it I did my first real slide. Your video is ver useful. You are great!!!
Longboarding looks pretty scary even thought it looks really fun as well ;)
Great tutorial I have a sector 9 dropper. And I hope I learn
Thanks for this! I am going to go out and try again. This helped me realize my problem as to why I am having trouble sliding. I'll let you know if your advice helped! :) thanks!
So how'd it go ?
Start with a sitting slide (the first one) and commit yourself to it. It'll be easier to slide on wheels with a harder duro (81a+). You want to grab your board and commit your shoulders to it to completely swing the board around. When you first start your wheels won't free up. Just keep practicing, you'll get it :P
i didn't know there are 'rights' involved in comments lol
alright, man. all the power to you for wearing a helmet while pushing your 5MPH limits.
Great video man, best one ive seen yet.
This helped me a lot dood! Definitely gonna try that puck slide lol

This really helped thanks for being so clear about it!
If you read some of the comments, you notice that the first slide (one handed) is acually called a stink bug, which when goin fast can make you you 180 your board. So if you learn to do that rideing switch. maybe it will pop you back?

Dude thanks so much this really helped in teaching me how to slide. But I am still have trouble getting back onto the board after the toe side slide.
Thanks, man, this actually helped a lot! I need to make some longboarding gloves though, mine don't have pucks on them.
A rule of thumb : The lower to the ground you are, the easier it will be to slid. But yes. It can be down on "just about" any board. Recommend low down board though. for first time. Plus they last and perform better for downhill.
Thanks I just got a longboard so now I have at least a little knowledge
Your looseness of your trucks really depends on how fast you want to go, and how much effort you care to expend to turn your board. So I keep mine about a 6 maybe 7 out of 10. Thank you very much this video helped me to do awesome slides
Absolutely. Why wouldn't it. Yellow o'tangs are crazy slidey.
nice vid, ill be using your style of sliding. And now that I'll be able to slow down if I want to, I'll be able to do more hills
@wardenclyffeslate; true but just as many beginner snowboards are designed with a "flat" profile since they are easier to learn on then you graduate to more rocker, camber, or Hybrid. Lower longboards are easier to get concept, then use technique to grade self a different profile.

Great tutorial man helped a lot!
I think that's the same board I have, Landyachtz Chinook? I have the 2012 with the Lion print on it. It's a sweet smooth ride.
Radical! Nice lessons man.

yo man good stuff bro, ima try that last slide u did, hopefully i dont mess up my face
Plus u dont wanna grab between ur feet unless if u wanna get wobbles. Grab behind your back foot and lock ur backfoot into the board
great stuff. it is very clear. very helpful.
honestly i agree with you. that how I got my concusion. but these are pretty slow speeds. then. now I always have a helmet. after that head hit.
@wideone3 : Oh hey dude no problem, thats awsome you know your boarding, and thanks for the input.
thanks man gonn download this video to my phone so i can learn it
Holy shit the background music is Affliction by AFI.I love that band!
thanks dood, excellent tutorial!
you can slide with any wheel you just have to go pretty damn fast with some which are especially made for not breaking out
Thanks dude that really helped!
This isn't a powerslide this is a Coleman glove down. Powerslide is holding out a 180 as long as u can't at 90 degrees until u reach 180 degrees.
what???
think he just learned his first words.... just let the baby play
Last slide was epic...
@123KOAN hey man. thanks for the vid. but would you be able to do a stand up slide video using the same board? been finding it really hard to get my foot set up for power slides
for the last slide it helps too have wrist pucks for that one
nice video, helped me a lot
@123KOAN Not always true, some raised boards are still better, but in general this applies.
This is pretty much exactly what you should not do.
I learnt somethingctoday holy crap, I just got an longer board too
nic3
Thanks, I just got a new board 3days ago
Grave rail behind ur back knee not in between them (just a helpful tip I've been longboarding for years)
Thanks for your video and It helps me a lot. Today I just got a really longboard which is 46" Timeless Pin GT. Do you think people can make some simple tricks? If so, could you name on it so that I could find it. Cheers!!!
Great video.
now would the back hand slide be helpful in a 90 degree turn? or is there a different slide for that?
Thanks man!! very good tutorial :)
also if you have some decent skateboard wheels lie'n around the house some where you could temperarly switch them on to your sector 9 board and learn to slide with those since they generally around that 85a rating. but don't stick them for too long, they'll wear pretty fast. but should be good till you get a legitamite set of wheels.

thanks man it helped me slide and not eat shit
@jarhett2 Landyachtz Chinook. very great for DH and sharp turns. Decent for freeride, but you'll eventually want a symmetrical board in the future. dont get it if you hope to be freeriding.
even though the name of the tricks might not be 100% right the explanations are great
Thanx that really helped me
it will be more slipery to power slide so i recommend the purple durian 85mm and 45mm contact
I have a sector 9 mtn peaks with the wheels it comes with. Is this a good board to slide with.
Thanks
Its not all about the board its also in the wheels, you want to stick to wheels above 78a when you first learn slide like 80a or 82a but not too high duro, the harder the wheel the easier the slide you might also want a wheel with a smaller contact patch.
Could you tell me the brand, the hardness and the size of your wheel ? I'm looking for one of those but I just can't find. Thank you
Imagine doing that last one without those hand pads.
Good tutorial thanks
So cool!
They're slide gloves. They're built for sliding on a longboard. Those white circles are called pucks. Look up 'Slide Gloves' and you'll see what I mean.
why would you hate on this guy? -.- Thanks for the video.
What is your longboard deck?
Buen tutorial explicaste todo muy detalladamente gracias :D
Nice Evo bro!
They are called slide gloves. Triple 8 and Loaded make good ones. I personally prefer Loaded gloves.
Coleman slide... powerslides in stand ups
whaaat, he's just helping beginners...
