I had a 2004 VTX 1300 for 14 years Great bike, the speedo problem is probably the green connector under the right side of the tank. I sold mine earlier this year for 3k.
My dad at one point had a 1200, a 1500 and an 1800. My mom called it his Flock but he recently sold the 1200. By the way thanks for the love of my home state of West Virginia. I’d be awesome to catch a glimpse of the Ol’ Swamp Wizard riding around up here.
My son had that same bike and had the same problems. the batt cable kept coming loose. The gas mileage sucks and the tank is small so range was about 110-120 miles
I love these cheap bike videos cause it is so true. My Vulcan cost me 2k and with a little work I polished the terd and it looks great and I love riding it. There is no excuse. Hey man in the live stream I asked you who won the bike so early because I had to go to work. No worries and thanks for another great video.
Love seeing Chey enjoy the Bolt. Absolutely loved mine. Only did me wrong when I tried to stretch out on some miles with the stock seat or got a little over zealous in the twisties and started scraping pegs earlier than I wanted to. Had to sell it last year. Since then I've gotten and am in love with my Raider. But I do miss the smaller Bolt. It was a blast to ride.
Currently riding a Moto Guzzi V85 TT ADV bike. I love it. But, I have owned both the 1800 VTX and a 1300 VTX. If I wanted a cruiser bike I would definitely pick up one of those again. The VTX is an awesome model family. What gets expensive in the motorcycle world is accessories that are almost a one off due to not as much desire for that particular part.

And it’s the best bike I’ve ever owned. Thx for ur excellent content and thx for ur outstanding work with the Forgotten Angels 👼. Keep it Weird as well Brother. Be well
I’m a Harley fan from 6 years old. But I have a special place in my heart for the gold wings. My dad had an 89 and I used to ride the hell out of that bike. More comfort than my 77 CB750! I test rode a 21 Goldwing tour… greatest touring bike out currently!
"How boring would it be if you only liked one kind of motorcycle? Like em all!" Amen brother! 2 wheels....if it makes you happy, you rock it and give anyone a finger that tells you otherwise.
I hear ya with the old GoldWings!! I bought my '89 in 2000 with 4,000 miles on it....for $7K and it paid for itself long ago. I've had it repainted but the only major thing I've had to do, in 165,000 miles, is a u-joint!! I've gone through multiple fork seals, brake pads, tires and batteries, but that's just routine maintenance with those miles. Don't let that 1500 go!!!
I sold at a HD dealer in mid CA. The sales mangler referred to everything other than an HD, as a "turd". He was an idiot, but did have the beard and T-Shirt! He was so cool.... We took a Yamaha Road Star(?) 1700 as a trade. It was spotless and ran perfectly. It went to auction with other "turds". The sad thing was it ran smoother and stopped better than anything we had on the sales floor. Add that you will *never* know your interest rate (800 Beacon Scores often got taken for 8%!!!) and many Harley dealers have perfected the perfect con. Misdirection is rampant, but well done. So many great bikes out there that get ignored as they apparently do not have the "cool factor". I love that you support the run of the mill bikes too! Thanks.
I've known two people with the Honda VTX and yes, they run for miles and miles with precise reliability. I own a 2007 Yamaha Royal Star tour deluxe with the 1300cc V4 and they are the same story as well, runs for miles and miles with all day reliability. I bought her used for 4500.00 in immaculate shape two years ago with 32k miles, I have 56k on it now and enjoy it immensely. She's a keeper, my comfortable touring bike. I can't wait for winter to be over so I can go on trips with it again. Now I want to find a good used reliable 2nd bike for local rides for around town and to work. The bike market is different from the auto market, you can get some great bikes for great prices with low miles on them, and there are plenty out there. You don't have to overpay for some fashionable name, and you'll get just as much enjoyment and go everywhere the others go plus not save doing it.
Would be hard pressed to find prices like this at any HD dealer for the same bikes in SoCal. But I love you doing this. I think with patients and some research definitely some great buys out there. The newer gold wing looks like a stealth bomber of the future. Love it. That's Triumph it tempting.
Love these cheapest bikes at the dealership vids. Just think about how many miles you could lay down with that 1800 in one shot! Too easy? Hmmmm, Country getting smaller!
I started watching your channel and chey's while doing youtube research on the PC800 a couple weeks ago. I live 10 minutes from the dealership and as soon as I saw your review on the $500 bike I called them to see if it was still available.... long story short the guy on the phone didn't know which bike I was talking about so hopefully it's there in the morning. LOVE your content, keep it up!!!
@@nstelte24 So, just like all dealerships, they advertise the $500.00 price just to get you to come in, then let you have it with both barrels. Just curious, what would that $500.00 motorcycle have actually cost you?
Shadetree Surgeon, Your also pretty passionate about Pickles you can buy anyplace that sells them. Agreed about buying a Motorcycle. In Facebook Marketplace I saw a two tone grey GoldWing for sale for $2,000, I believe it was a second generation GoldWing. I called but it was sold already.
Great Vid. I wish everyone had the same attitude of encouraging people to get on two wheels. Doesn't matter what you ride as long as you're riding. I also agree just gotta randomly go places or look online and you'll find good deals. I just randomly went on a former Victory now Indian dealers website that is two hours away and that's how I found the deal on my 2012 Victory Cross Country Tour which was a dream bike of mine.
Great video Josh! I love that you take out these bikes and spread the message about affordability. That $500 Suzuki is an awesome deal! Cheers man! Hope to meet you guys some day.
Owned one like the "500" bike. Intruder 1500. One of the most reliable bikes I've had. Cobra pipes made it really wake up. My problem was the fuel tank. The real one was under the seat filled through the door in front of seat, and smallest legal tank they could put in it. Other than that loved it.
In '87 I found a First Year (1975) GL1000 Goldwing, fully dressed with aftermarket fairing, bags, crash bars, mag wheels and electronic ignition ( they started with points) with around 10k on the odometer for $1150. It was Jan 3rd, 10° and I happily rode it to my Riding Buddies garage, about 20 miles away. I had been riding an 81 Kawi 750 LTD, and those cold Sunday night rides back to the City were not a lot of fun. The Wing opened up much longer trips, I never hesitated to go anywhere in any weather! My next bike was a VF1000f Interceptor that surprisingly I found, was almost as comfortable as the Wing! And one Hell of a lot faster! I love them all!
The first Shade Tree video I ever watched was one just like this. That was 3 years ago. Been a long ride with ya, Bro. And have enjoyed every video I've watched. Thanks for doin what you do...
I owned a vl 1500 in 2000 till 2013 and road over 100000 miles then sold it for 2000 dollars ,it was a good ride but to get to the carbs you need to take half the bike apart
My local hd dealer is one of those that won’t sell anything that isn’t a hd. Also they are scum bucket used car salesman types every one of them. Never had a positive experience there.
My local Harley-Davidson dealer will treat you like a turd stuck on the bottom of a shoe. I wonder if they treat you any better if you roll in with $30,000 in your pocket.
Sounds like the ones in my area. Had one of their salesmen call me and asked if I was ready to upgrade from my Sportster. I told him I might be, but more than likely not a Harley, his response, " if it's not a Harley Davidson, it doesn't exist.". I guess I need to show them my 2021 Ural, lol
You know maybe I'm being a little too harsh, they were quite friendly last winter when me and a buddy went in to see the Pan-Americans. Perhaps I shouldn't accuse them of being dicks while I myself may perhaps be guilty of being a dick.
Used bikes are the way to go in my opinion. You can easily pick up a low-milages $12,000 bike for $7,000 two or three years after the first guy bought it new from the dealership. A 2010 or 11 will be less than half the original sticker price. I've found there's a lot of middle-age guys that will decide they want a motorcycle and buy something brand new....then a couple years later they realize they don't really like riding and they sell it for way less than what they paid.
Thanks for sharing these videos. It's good to see you showing cheap metric bikes. The Frankenstein Chopper you rode to the BArbour museum was terrific too. Any motorcycle is fun to ride. I had as much fun riding a junkyard street-illegal 75 cc Honda on mountain logging roads during summer break when I was 14 as I had riding a new sport bike. Even a moped is fun, but you might not want your friends to see you riding it.
I've been to dealers in other states but right here in my home town in Louisiana and other dealers I've been to in my state put any metric bikes they come across out front with their used bikes. And if they happen to have neer you may end up enjoying one with them. Harley signals aren't hard to figure out at all.
If Bert's treats you the same whether you're spending $1,500.00 or $15,000.00 it must be good. Most dealerships I go to won't even talk to you. It's almost as if they expect you to feel privileged that they even acknowledged your presence.
I rented an FXRT there back in 1986. I wish I could have bought that bike back then. It was a fly and ride HOG deal, and I was treaded superbly by that dealer.
@@shadetreesurgeon Wait really? Thats fucking weird. I literally rode it while you were in Bert's, and I was going to trade in my 86 wing if it was cheaper.
I've got a VN800 Drifter, a KLR650(being brought back to life as we speak...literally working on it while I watch), and the next one is likely gonna be a GL1800 or some form of a sport tourer....I wanna put some miles down comfortably now.
The answer is no not every Harley dealer is the same or even close. When I went down and visited Saint Pete’s I stopped by Burt’s on your suggestion before I came to the Dirty shame. I was in shock how friendly everyone was and willing to talk with me even though I wasn’t going to buy a bike. In my part of New York you walk in a Harley dealer and there are three of them near my location. People don’t even pick their head up to say hello to you when you walk in the door you can browse all of their goods and maybe just maybe someone might say can I help you. So you’re lucky to have dealers like Berts in your area. When I bought my softail after I signed the paperwork I was handed a key and salesman said good luck and walked away.
I’m flying to Tampa the end of next week and you can bet I’m going to stop by Burt’s and pick up some shirts and some poker chips and get some food next-door
There are two types of cheap used bikes: I cared for this but now it's time for someone else to have fun AND I went offroading with this and last time I changed oil was when I bought it. I think.
“You say you want a leader But you can't seem to make up your mind I think you better close it And let me guide you to the purple rain Purple rain, purple rain!!” Josh think it through man!
I’m 6ft2 and drive a F700GS. I don’t drive off-road so didn’t see the point in getting a F800GS with the 21” front wheel. The ergonomics are the same on both bikes, the F800GS is just taller. I love the idea of flat footing when I pull up.

I love these cheap bike videos cause it is so true. My Vulcan cost me 2k and with a little work I polished the terd and it looks great and I love riding it. There is no excuse. Hey man in the live stream I asked you who won the bike so early because I had to go to work. No worries and thanks for another great video.
Josh should definitely buy 1 of every Goldwing. Then call himself Commander of the Golden Fleet.
Josh I absolutely love ur channel. I laugh at every video. Even my wife enjoys ur videos as well. I Got really lucky 3 years ago and purchased a 01 yellow weirdo 1800 GL with 170K for $2700.
More Bert's cheap test rides! Love them.
"How boring would it be if you only liked one kind of motorcycle? Like em all!" Amen brother! 2 wheels....if it makes you happy, you rock it and give anyone a finger that tells you otherwise.
"Metric bike"!!! Bee M Double You - thank you!
I would grab that $500 bike (£1.50p GBP). Nice find Shadetree.
Hey Shadetree you are good for the Motorcycle lifestyle just letting everyone know it doesnt matter what you ride thanks for the video
The motorcycle industry should sponsor you your a brilliant advert for em
I love when Chey does the flybyes
Thanks.
I've never questioned what someone rides, do you. there are so many good bikes out there 👊
I've known two people with the Honda VTX and yes, they run for miles and miles with precise reliability.
26:16 Cheyleesi proving that LOUD pipes Saves Lives! 🔊🔊🔊
Sidenote. Seriously thought she was gonna peel out the dealership
Did you end up getting it?
@@zauh after dealer fees it would have been way too much
@@nstelte24 So, just like all dealerships, they advertise the $500.00 price just to get you to come in, then let you have it with both barrels.
I need to head down. Family has a place next to Croom. My local used market sucks.
Man oh man, I wish I could find a dealer near me as cool as Bert's. No such luck yet.
Both of my local dealers usually just take them to auction. I never understood it. Harley's they will keep and sell but metrics they auction off.
Speaking of deals I’m all pissed off because the 131 conversion costs the same amount as what I paid for the 116 conversion on my Indian!
Indian parts are more expensive than the MOCO parts
@@talkingrock7011 bikes in general. Atleast in my countrey. Be prepared to pay 5k more than a softail if you want a similair setup bike.
Very cool. Saving me some dough. Thank you. I’m too shy to ask for the cheapest bike, but you are building up my confidence.
Pretty sure that Mustang seat on that managers special is worth 500 bucks!
That LC1500 Suzuki is a Rock Solid bike 👍😀
Owned one like the "500" bike. Intruder 1500. One of the most reliable bikes I've had. Cobra pipes made it really wake up. My problem was the fuel tank. The real one was under the seat filled through the door in front of seat, and smallest legal tank they could put in it. Other than that loved it.
And once again all I can say is that I admire these price tags. In Germany the VL1500 would easily cost 5k. So ... buy it. 😅
My stable contains a 04 vulcan 2000cc and a 17 super tenere... cruisers to adv... they are all fun.
The tach prollem is prolly a bad ground
If you named it you have to, buy it. I think that’s a rule of the Chanel right ??? Once named they have to stick around…. Long live Purple Rain !!!
You, blockhead, and her2wheels got me to learn how to ride a year ago, thank you it’s been awesome!!!!
You'r a good man Josh and, yes, more of us builds a great future. Thank you!!!
The first Shade Tree video I ever watched was one just like this. That was 3 years ago. Been a long ride with ya, Bro. And have enjoyed every video I've watched. Thanks for doin what you do...
Dude, get the goldwing! It's so you. You've also been bit hard by the long run bug so it makes sense.
You sound like we could be locals haha.
@@dmelson7502 I wished I could say the same, I guess I need to make a visit and see if things have changed at my local HD.
Wow that is some serious cash you guys raised! Kudos to you all!
Nice VL1500 for $500 I just sold one a few months ago for $3000 canadian with 6x the mileage. That's a good size bike for a steal of a price.
Definitely heading to Burt's for my next bike !
They’re good folks!
Burts HD rules! Great showcase Josh!!! Looks like a fun day! Want a Goldwing too, thanks to you, despite having 5 bikes already (down to 5 lol)
How many Goldwings do you need? Just one more, than you have.
From a giant dwarf to THE swamp wizard himself! Thanks for always showing how accessible riding is! Keep on doing what you do you dirty swamp wizard!!
More people on bikes sounds like a good thing to me
I've been to dealers in other states but right here in my home town in Louisiana and other dealers I've been to in my state put any metric bikes they come across out front with their used bikes.
I just love the Kerry King riff at the beginning. Short, but simple and easily recognized.
I would literally ride to Harley Davidson just to see mr t 😂 hes awesome
Come on in brother!
Josh you could sell ice to an eskimo!! Love it!! Your passion for motorcycles is infectious!! Keep doing what you do!
Super good times brother!
😊👍🐾
I have 07 VTX1300S set up like a street glide custom road king bags batwing fairing dragster pipes best bike I have owned easy to work on if needed.
Great video, again. I WILL go for a Goldwing the minute i have the cash and it will be your fault @shadetree surgeon lol ride safe 🤙
I rented an FXRT there back in 1986. I wish I could have bought that bike back then. It was a fly and ride HOG deal, and I was treaded superbly by that dealer.
If that goldwing is $500 I'm packing up and heading to Florida!
Its not, its 6,999, I test rode it during the campout
@@midwestcruising I gotcha, Looks like a sweet bike tho!
@@thicctomato4977 Shes a lot faster than I thought she'd be
They told me 5995 for it!
Great deals there... Also great to see you both having fun out there... and Mother of Frogs being an asshole never gets old. :D
Added tac on some Suzuki V twins will cause some odd problems.
Would love Chey's opinion on a Honda with DCT. The early ones (700s) should be really cheap now
SHE who fears no bike!
Na we need chey on the classic auto bike, THE HONDAMATIC
I think.
“You say you want a leader
But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain!!”
Josh think it through man!
Your commentary and narration is full of information, humor, attention grabbing and excitement. Great video work. 🎉
I’m 6ft2 and drive a F700GS. I don’t drive off-road so didn’t see the point in getting a F800GS with the 21” front wheel.
The ergonomics are the same on both bikes, the F800GS is just taller. I love the idea of flat footing when I pull up.
@14:10 thats what she said hahhahaha ….. we know you can get a better deal on that GW treat yourself!!
