Nice set! Honestly, I think Lionel should make the Chambersburg trolley available as a separate sale item, I'd bet they'd sell quite a few up in PA considering the strong model railroading culture Pennsylvania has. Sure there's a lot of wasted space in that master carton but you know what? There's enough room for a purchaser to load it up with some Fastrack and a transformer and make a "Traveling Roadshow" layout. Visting friends or relatives at Christmas who don't have a train under the tree? Bring one with you! That's what I did one year and what a hit it was! 🤩
Can't wait to get mine! I live in Chambersburg, so this was a must for me. I have seen photographs of L1s street running in Shippensburg. I was born and raised in Waynesboro which at one time had a branch line that came off the CV mainline. This was way before my time. Chambersburg did have trolley service up until the late 30s, but it was actually a part of the larger CG&W (Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Waynesboro) Street Railway.
Nice set. The caboose is cool too. Thanks for posting! I love Lionel and I've been pretty lucky but there are a few negative items that are consistently happening over and over they need to address. Really like the double heading shots! Beautiful layout. Nice review Chris.
You are right about adam's County having alot of apple farms, and knouse foods is who makes all of the apple sauce and juice and cider and airazon tea and more.

I got my set I still have not had a chance to open my set up yet. Looks like a great set. I bought it just for the engine that's at the Pennsylvania railroad museum.
That's a really nice set. Lionel does a good job on these which is nice to see. I had to grab that caboose at the first opportunity and glad some sellers are willing to break up the sets occasionally. Of course Lionel put the paint scheme I wanted in the set and not separate sell... Great review and really looking forward to seeing your PRR I-1 review!
This is a really nice train set and I agree with you on the space being wasted, but if you add something to the set, at least you have the space to put it in the box, so in the long run when you think about it and all, It is a win win for you. That is what I do and it works out for me.
I got my set last week. It runs great but, I had an antenna issue. It would not run in command when I pulled it out of the box. My dad and I figured out that one of the handrail stanchions was not insulated. We pulled it out, wrapped some electrical tape around the stanchion, plugged it back into the boiler and it runs great now.
Great looking set. Looks like the same size box as my Iron Hippo set but with less styrofoam packing because it has 6 Gla Hoppers and a crew talk caboose.
Great review, Chris! It is nice that your friend John lends some of his trains to you for review! I do like that caboose. I've found that my L1 has performed real well on my railroad's O36 curves and switches. Bill
@@huntercoleman460 Hunter, I do not believe so. I already have an L1 and as much as I like the PRR, my focus has really been on the Midwestern roads. I think one L1 is enough for me, particularly in that I have a couple preorders out there. With all of that said, I do like the set. Bill

The trolley loosely sits on a molded plastic block that is secured to the flat car with 2 screws . I enjoy sharing and Chris is awesome at capturing all the special details
Nice review. How did you get the front coupler on 1343 to work for double heading? Most steam engines do not have a functional front coupler with the exception being the switcher engines.
Lionel put the K-Line chassis with the forward facing RS385 motor on the MTH shell. Why they did that, Lord only knows. I haven't had any issues (knock on wood) with the L1 or an earlier Mikado that has this set up. As I've said a thousand times before, I don't care what color they paint it as long as the gearboxes, running gear and overall construction are solid. Not to make excuses for Lionel's issues with paint colors but just my personal preference...I'd be interested in finding that flat car/trolley as a separate sale/breakup piece. Same for the Navy boxcar, Walkersville Southern had one when I was a volunteer trainman. I assume they still do. I like the Vision Caboose....I ordered one of those (and many, many other things) from a DC/Mid-Atlantic region store but considering many of the items have come and gone from other stores and have never gotten a phone call or an item I ordered, I don't have much confidence on getting what I ordered. I'll have to see if Muffin has the caboose....
Just took delivery .. the set looks great, engine runs well (long term and gear reliability ask Norms Trains) but who in the F at Lionel is picking colors. Not trying to nit pick, many of their engines I've purchased look very good. But there's this 30% (which is BTO) that can't match the simplest of colors they (lionel) got correct just 15-20 yrs ago.

Lionel provides a dummy o gauge coupler with each steam engine, so I swapped out the dummy scale coupler

I really hope that Lionel rereleases these engine with proper coloring. Still a great set.
