Have there ever been musicians like these five lads working together in their prime? Amazing! I go weak at the knees when I hear this stuff. Blows my mind.
In merseyside in 1975, i was 10. Irish grandparents x4, mum had 4 sisters n losadsa cousin then. Me dad also had 4 sisters, loadsa more cousins. Irish music all day every day back then..
My dad visited Cork in 1997, brought home CD labeled The best of Dubliners, 20 songs on it including this one as well as the irish metal flute. I loved those songs from the moment I've heard them.
My Dad always played the Dubliners and I remember this one distinctly from when I was a kid. Just this afternoon, Dad and my brother were playing this on the guitars while we sang and we're from South London lol. The music of today has just a negative, dark base and this is just jolly and gets you smiling wanting to dance! Love it
Since I was little I have listened to this group, I love Irish music. This song is one of my favorites, it brings me a lot of joy, I never get tired of listening to it. The Dubliners is a wonderful group.
@@TheDublinersOfficial are you as a group still touring? I really started listening to your music a couple years ago. Your version of whiskey in the jar is the best version I’ve heard of by far!
At the 1:26 mark he missed an entire verse - where he goes for his rapier but Jenny had taken it - then tries his pistol but his charges had been soaked by Jenny.
There’s some evidence that they went further. I think what may have stopped them going further is that there wasn’t financial gains in America just subsistence farming,
Hi Birk. We wish it was better too however we felt that it should be made available to The Dubliners fans as it is one of only a couple of colour performance we have of the band from this early period.
I really love how Ronnie's voice complements Luke's voice during the chorus.
Ronnie sounds like he's had a rough night... again...
@@paulsmith5752 Ronnie's voice is like dragging metal across concrete.
@eckpolmick5080 that it is, and it's glorious.
Luke Kelly was a gem
So true
Did he die early or smth? I noticed other lineups were just 4.
Luke Kelly was epic. RiP sir.
@@Blood0cean he died in 84, was only 44 years old
@@eriktegnanderandresen7393 what happened how did he die?
You can see and hear the boy's at their peak really enjoying themselves it's a pure enjoyment to look back at
My favorite Irish song! And there are lots I like. Been to Dublin and loved it! Mind you, I'm from Santiago, Chile.
I live in Glasgow. I went to Dublin in 1997. It’s just like Glasgow.
@@alexbowman7582 I've also been in Glasgow. Beautiful!
You are most welcome.Enjoy
Hello my Countryman I'm from Temuco, Chile and I love the dublinners.
Luke simply tapping his foot makes this version soooo good.
Gearing up for a 2024 St Patrick’s day busk this is a must in the set - great version just the right length too.
Same here 🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️
This is from back in the day when a live performance was the same as a recording, if not better. Great upload, thank you.
So true

There has been some great interpretations but you can't beat The Dubliners.
This song does bring a smile on my face.❤❤
Lots of love from India!❤❤
🇮🇪❤🇮🇳
From India as well, and I absolutely love the Dubliners!
Keeping it raw and unedited gives another level to the song.

Love this song.. really seem to be getting into Irish music lately... Really happy and lively
Can't ever remember Luke drinking a whiskey from the jar! Always from the bottle! Gorgeous!
Funny, when you discover music so real and so pure.
Real talent.
No bullshit.
This is prime dubliners. All on top of their game.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
Luke Kelly & The Dubliners, there is no better group. It sounds perfect
Maybe the best performance i've ever heard and seen from this song
So brilliant played😍
I wish I had seen Luke and Ciaran in concert
A peppy song that makes me feel happy.
Luke was such an earnest man; and his music has such a unique intensity. You can search a long time to find anything like it.
Ronnie Drew's voice is amazing. A one off. I loved them.
There will only be one Ronnie Drew
I love the whistle

Brilliant, the whole lot of them. Thanks for posting this, cheers from the Canadian bush.
Glad you enjoyed it
How could it be any better !!!
I wish I had been born in the 1950s instead of in the late 1960s
Luke Kelly had a certain charisma.
So weird to hear the song without the 'clap clap clap clap' ....' clap clap'.
LOVE IT
Luke Kelly Is King !!!!!!!! hail to comrade Luke !!!!!!
The best!!
Barnie on the banjo superb
As it was meant to be heard
🌹Luke Kelly🌹👏👏👏👏👏
I'm proud to be Irish, and proud to be an American with European blood! Happy day!
Why did no one ever tell me that this song wasn´t a Metallica original? I would have found this gem of a band a long time before...
At the 1:26 mark he missed an entire verse - where he goes for his rapier but Jenny had taken it - then tries his pistol but his charges had been soaked by Jenny.
Greatest Beards in the history of music! (Sorry ZZ Top =D)
Epic. It should be restored though. the unnecessary noise and haze can be corrected
Yup

A reflective piece when a woman’s ideology does not accord with the mans day time job ,The challenges therein ,and possible liquid solutions.

No way this turned into a metal song

Luke may have skipped leg day but he still kick your ass
Dublin was originally a Viking slave town. It translates as black pool.

There’s genetic Native American female DNA that’s been found in Iceland almost certainly from a woman from America taken back.
Phil Lynnot takes some beating thin lizzy
Good 'ole Irish shanty. lol
Sh. There is no such thing as an Irish shanty!!! You tourists haven't a clue!!
and still faster then Metallica! 🤣
Didn't realize Phil was a ginger.
It sucks that the video and sound is such poor quality

Ah Metallica in their prime.
I prefer the original, but they made an okay and somewhat interesting rendition of Metallica’s masterpiece.
I'm sorry, what?
I think you’ll find that Thin Lizzy’s & big Phil is the original , but this isn’t a bad jig a jig … haha
Excuuuuuse me? Isn't that a Metallica song???? WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Sung by The Dubliners long before Metallica sung it.

Awful
